It seems that people are looking at the Piccolo part more closely than I thought... must end the threat at early stages... I actually saw the Pioneer dub of the movie and that motivated me to do this job even better. Be careful... 8)

Blitzen wrote:As with Kaio, considering his role in the movie (not a whole damn lot, just some exposition), the -sama doesn't bear any significance to it all. Considering ~o is basically King, King Kai isn't such a bad thing afterall. If you were to do a more literal translation, it could read out as something like "King King Kai", and the fact that he is still calling him King carries over the respect that '-sama' would entail, so basically, its your call, but the script does not gain nor lose anything from dropping-sama, if not most/all honorifics, in general.
With that explanation, it sounds like the Japanese "Kaio-sama" sounds just as redundant as the English "Master Roshi."

Master Master!

Don't worry 'bout it. With how varied but overall excellent your samples were, you could probably end up voicing just about anybody.

Still... a week and a half left...

*sigh* I really wish I could record some clips for the audition now. It's hard for me to concentrate on my work with this going on (My head's like, "OMG this is so exciting! I gotta do this, I gotta do this!"). I'd try to get some of it out now, but too many people around... I want to be able to work in quiet! >__<

*cough* >_>; Anyway...

Yes, Kirbopher, I think you did a great job with almost all of the voices you auditioned for. I sure hope all the other auditioners show just as much promise with their recordings, as well... if they do, this is gonna help make for a GREAT dub. God, this is gonna be so awesome! x333

... Once I get out of college, I would LOVE to be able to work in voiceovers as my cheap out-of-college job. A lot of work, but a lot of fun too! <33

God, I need to get to work on some scriptwriting! I think I'll have to go to YouTube to fish for some Japanese audio clips of the movie until I manage to snag an actual copy of it. I hate going to college in a small town, hah!

If kirbopher can audition as THAT many characters, then I'm officially declaring my Goku and Turles voices in my upcoming Oozaru audition as auditions themselves. Therefore, the characters I'm auditioning for:

Yamcha.
Tien.
The Terror Twins. (Yeah, I always forget their names)
Oozaru-Gohan.
Tulluce.
Goku/Kakarrot.

:P

xD... Well, the optimum number of roles to audition for is around four, so even with the number you've already posted, you're probably gonna be okay. Keep in mind that people who get picked are probably only going to do ONE major role each (minor/tiny ones we may need people to double-up on, depending on how many people actually have auditioned by the time the thread there closes--but hey, that's why Kaboom said to try for minor roles, as well!).

It's up to you however many people you want to audition for, though, I guess... that and as long as Kaboom's okay with it... ^^;

Oy! The Freeza comparison was a joke; don't start making me feel like I'm actually a tyrant!

I'm not, am I? :?

Um... yeah. Sure, you can do a few more if you want. I sorta set around 3 or 4 because I knew people would probably want to do a few more than that anyway.

But still, be reasonable. That's all I ask.

Since when was I calling you a tyrant? D: You're just the big cheese, that's all. And the big cheese, however generous he is with how he handles things, still sets down the ground rules, right? xD

... w-wha..? Now I'm just getting confused.

Whateva. On a different note, I think I've decided what to do with the dillema on the Japanese terminology.

Suffixes - English. This is an English dub, with English titles and adresses. "Mr. Piccolo" is just as good as "Piccolo-san." As for "Kaio-sama," Blitzen made a good argument for "King Kai," and I personally agree. However, I'll leave the final decision on that one up to our head writer, Eclipse.

Character Names - Japanese. With honorifics situations aside, this is one instance where it's probably best to stay true to the original, especially in cases where FUNimation did not. So in other words, the notable human stars of the movie will be going by "Kuririn," "Tenshinhan," and "Kame-sennin / Muten Roshi." Needless to say, there isn't going to be any "Icarus" in this, either.

Technique Names - These aren't really a problem. Since most of them were never "translated" or anything by FUNimation, then we won't translate them either. In the end, I think it'd be best to go with "Soki-dan" and "Genki-dama" for those two troublesome ones, in order to stay consistent.

Tenshinhan I agree with, still on the fence about Muten Roshi/Kame-sennin, but Kuririn is a bit different because unlike them (as far as I know) his name is in Katakana, meaning theres always a good chance that it was meant to be spelt not as it is sounded in Katakana, but in a different way(I assume you know what Katakana is and all that junk, right?)

Actually, the "Kuri" is another food pun. "Kuri" means "chesnut" (same with Freeza's son, "Kuriza"). So... while "Krillin" is a phonetically accurate translation, the pun behind the name is lost.

Meh, with Roshi, I was just trying to stay consistent.

Phonetics can play a big part in how well a dialouge flows but I think I've got my pound of flesh with the suffix thing.

About the bolded part...why do I suddenly feel like I'm in a room with dozens of bloodhungry dogs?

Anyways..
Suffixes - The King Kai thing is a bit tough.....i'm gonna leave it alone for a while and think about that one. Any thing else doesn't need honorifics, unless there is no other proper translation for it =P

Techniques - Everything stays as is, with 'Genki Dama' and 'Soki-dan'. Just a question, but how is Kaio-ken gonna be pronouced? I know the correct one is 'Kai-o-ken', but what about 'Kayoken'? Just a question.

Character Names - Stays as is. All names are gonna be as true to the orignal Japanese as possible. Stuff like Tenshinhan, Kuririn, Mr. Satan, will stay.

And that's...it.

..And so he has spoken. I'd be fine with Kaio-sama or King Kai. The "Kuririn" vs. "Krillin"-like arguments should be up to the writers and the VAs imo. But..yeah if you want to go with Japanese suffixes, it'd be best to go the whole nine yards and not do a half-assed job meaning if you want to say Piccolo-san, that's cool. Just be sure to include Gohan-chan and such ^^. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it might be a bit strange if we jump back and forth with name suffixes..

Question: Will Goku be called Son Goku or Goku.. or Zero?:P
Question Jr: Who else is doing some actual writing besides Eclipse (Desire and Blitzen too? I'm confused)? :? [/not awake] -_-
