A Chilling Elegy is cool. It sends chills down my spine. When it plays during Freeza's "ride'em cowboy" moment, you feel like he is truly cold to Krillin's pleas of mercy. It perfectly embodies Freeza's icy disposition.

Is this topic only for insert songs or for the music in general? Because I'm not familiar with too many of the insert songs but I really like this music (M517): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gP3VN_tJ7BA
I feel like this song would be a good replacement for the opening theme of the podcast one day.

Another one from the M500 series, and my absolute favorite of all of Piccolo Daimao's themes from the original series:thaman91 wrote:Is this topic only for insert songs or for the music in general? There's only a handful of songs Yamamoto was accused of plagarizing, and this is not one of them. Oh and on topic, I like this song because it actually builds up the way a Dragon Ball attack builds up, the music literally sounds like Final Flash or at least the accompanying scene leading up to the attack.TheBlackPaladin wrote:That's quite good, but as with anything Yamamoto composed, I have to wonder--is it taken from something else?LuckyCat wrote:One Hit to Victory from Kai (I don't think the U.S. release ever got this song):

Re: Songs you adored from the Japanese Version.
Other than some of the ones that were already mentioned, I can think of two off of the top of my head:
The first is Growin’ Up Itsuka Mata Aeru Hi Made from DBZ Hit Song Collection 18. It's the last original song of the main Hit Song Collection series and it is serves as a send-off song. One of my all-time performances by Hironobu Kageyama; it's very genki and upbeat. The organ before the final repeat of the chorus in the song always gives me goosebumps. It's an amazing song.
The second is Voice by Kuko from DBZ Hit Song Collection 11. It's a very calming song and has a spectacular performance by Kuko, my favorite female vocalist from the Japanese soundtracks of Dragon Ball. It took me a while to get used to the pounding drums at the end of the song, but I think they're a great addition to the song. Definitely give it a listen if you need a song to chill out to.

Re: Songs you adored from the Japanese Version.
Far too many, now that I think about it.
Spirit vs Spirit (Unmei no hi) and Battle Point Unlimited are probably my two favorite tracks, because they were two songs I stumbled upon after years of mainly only knowing the English dub tracks. When I heard those two songs, I really felt like we missed out, as kids who watched the English dub on Toonami. The respective scenes those songs belong to just felt much more powerful with those songs. Luckily, the English remastered sets FUNimation did kept Battle Point Unlimited in for the English dub track, which is how I discovered it. Unmei no hi, get this, I discovered accidentally by seeing the Gohan scene on Photobucket in Japanese. Great songs

This is probably my favorite track in Kai. It's a shame the US never got it released, but it if I remember right it starts right when Goku powers up to full against Perfect Cell. It fits the scene so perfectly with everybody's reactions and scene changes lining up with musical queues. It's the peak of Kai music in my opinion.LuckyCat wrote:There's only a handful of songs Yamamoto was accused of plagarizing, and this is not one of them. The Japanese home video releases only got as far as episode #076 with the Yamamoto score, and the American television airings on Nicktoons only got as far as episode #063 with said score (#052 on parts 1-4 DVD/Blu-Ray).MrWalnut4 wrote:This is probably my favorite track in Kai. That song debuted in episode #079.

True, that scene is just my favorite usage of One Hit to Victory. It's episode 88 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFnAta5BAUU around the 8 minute mark.DB1984 wrote:The Japanese home video releases only got as far as episode #076 with the Yamamoto score, and the American television airings on Nicktoons only got as far as episode #063 with said score (#052 on parts 1-4 DVD/Blu-Ray).MrWalnut4 wrote:This is probably my favorite track in Kai. Defiantly better than the kikuchi kai version which had I believe M1525 playing which to me added no build to the scene

Probably my current favourite is With a Burning Heart, Defeat the Red Ribbon Army. (Though I can't seem to find who it's by...anybody know?) It just really captures the emotion of that whole arc, and overall gives a great 'heroic' feeling.
(I'm also always a sucker for anything by Kageyama, of course, be it DB or something else.)

It's sung by Hiroki Takahashi, who also sings the opening theme to Dragon Ball.Captain Space wrote:Probably my current favourite is With a Burning Heart, Defeat the Red Ribbon Army. Here's another one: Trouble Surfing. Performed by the same woman who sang the ending theme to the original series, Ushio Hashimoto.

I love this track. Perfect for summertime. Has a real swingin' sixties feel to it. I just wish there was a way to translate this song!
