He did mention there were "major" titles planned to be simulcasted in the same month that DBS debuts, and Dragon Ball is as major as an anime title as you can get. But I don't wanna get my hopes up.TheRed259 wrote:Simuldub?

I agree. I really don't want to get my hopes up, either. It was interesting what Fukunaga said about the Broadcast Dubs, and that he can't discuss anything about these titles.Lord Beerus wrote:He did mention there were "major" titles planned to be simulcasted in the same month that DBS debuts, and Dragon Ball is as major as an anime title as you can get. I wonder if the interviewer wanted to ask about Super? shame he didn't.

Even if the interviewer asked Fukunaga about Super, he most likely would have declined to comment on that.DBZ_Lee wrote:I agree. I really don't want to get my hopes up, either. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I agree that directing is an important part of making an anime (and other things like a film or game), but the point I was trying to get at was that how a scene is framed or shot is and should not be more important than the core content itself. By core content, I mean things like character growth and etc. I also heavily disagree with the 2nd statement, while I do think Toriyama's art was important to telling a pretty simple story, things like Piccolo's death in the Saiyan arc or Goku learning about his Saiyan heritage were good plot points imo, they were things that you could read in a summary and say "that was good". It seemed to me that people are determining the quality of the anime based on the director without giving credence to things like story, which isn't the right thing to do if you ask me. Then again, we have little information of the anime, so its not like I can blame youJulieYBM wrote:Yeah, directing is definitely a major element. Nobody comes to film and television for the story, they come for the manner in which the story is told to them. If one only cared about the story they'd be satisfied with merely reading a Wikipedia article. Storytelling is directing, storyboarding, animation, backgrounds, coloring, sound effects, music and voice performances, too, not merely dialogue. What information is given when and how plays a big part in creating a sense of excitement, tension and engagement in the viewer. Shokugeki no Souma is one of those series that heavily benefits from its stellar directing. Episode #7 has one of the best storyboards of the series. A simple hallway discussion is suddenly multi-dimensional in scope merely because of where the camera is placed. One sees not only the hallway and students within it but also the courtyard outside and the group of students also having a conversation. The inner wall isn't simply framed as a straight horizontal line, either, it's diagonal.
Dragon Ball never survived based on its story, it survived based on its storytelling. Series Director Chioka Kimitoshi has a record for interesting storytelling which will, with any luck, be highlighted in Dragon Ball Super.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Sorry for digging up this kinda old (relatively) post but I dont think its fair to compare an anime series to a movie. Though I do admit that BoG and even RoF struggles to built any huge suspense or tension, making a movie with so many characters and giving them each a chance to shine and ALSO building up tension between the protagonists (in both movies ie Vegeta and Goku) and the antagonist requires a significant amount of time and a hefty amount of balance.fadeddreams5 wrote:I'm not criticizing the scenes for what they are or saying they're good or bad. I'm just saying they set a certain mood. This is true for the whole movie the minute you see Beerus and he starts making kawaii faces. The Namek saga, on the other hand, is generally serious, even with the Ginyu Force. There's always that sense of tension where you fear the characters will run into Freeza's men or Vegeta. BoG fails to create that even with the threat of Beerus because of its lightheartedness and, another example, Beerus break-dancing and Whis enjoying food.Ushabtis wrote:>evil Vegeta killing namekian villagefadeddreams5 wrote:I'm sure you can see the difference between the tone in the Android saga, the History of Trunks special, and BoG, right?
And how something like this creates a certain mood:

While this creates the opposite:

explains itself
>emo Future Trunks in his own post apocalyptic flashback of Killer Androids
yet the Andriods in present time line are cruising about in a car in the mountains chillin shopping for cloths with one even falling in love with Nature
---
>The Bingo scene
that was supposed to be funny and show how far Vegeta has come as a good-hearted person
>Whis getting to slapped Beerus out cold with one hit
Beerus was running around like an idiot, if that was a serious fight it wouldn't have ended in one hit. It was supposed to be funny.
Lets say the directors decide on more tension, then the side characters like Kuririn, Roshi , Tien would all have a cut in screen time and then the complaining will begin.
On a sidenote, if we really compare the series to movies, i'm currently re-watching the original DB series and I feel that the tone in the movies are more reminiscence of the original DB series than in DBZ.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
In terms of fair screen time, I think having a series will definitely lend itself better to that than a movie simply because there's more time to spare.
You won't have to wrap everything up on four to six episodes, you can create tension and actually sustain it.

Absolutely no truth, whatsoever. Their source just pick a random number and ran with it.

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if Toei tries to keep it running as long as they get good numbers and sales from it.SaiyanZ wrote:Any truth to this? http://www.inquisitr.com/2078792/dragon ... e-records/

I really think they're all going to have chances to shine in Super thanks to the weekly format. One of the many reasons I'm happy we're getting a series.Ushabtis wrote:i too hope (and expect) time to be spent on the other characters getting a chance to shine.Chuquita wrote:In terms of fair screen time, I think having a series will definitely lend itself better to that than a movie simply because there's more time to spare.

I feel certain that this is exactly what TOEI is planning, otherwise I don't think Masako Nozawa would have said she hopes it goes on for a long time and is as big as its predecessor.sangofe wrote:No, but I wouldn't be surprised if Toei tries to keep it running as long as they get good numbers and sales from it.

I wish there were details on the story and setting already. ;__;
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Just saw this on Twitter; Super's the only summer show left that hasn't revealed its synopsis or core staff yet? Is this true?

Yeah, it's the only summer series we basically know nothing about.Chuquita wrote:Just saw this on Twitter; Super's the only summer show left that hasn't revealed its synopsis or core staff yet? Is this true?

That's, very curious. Especially considering it's a franchise with popularity abroad. I'd really like to know what the behind-the-scenes story on this is the way we eventually learned the behind-the-scenes story on BOG (and partly on F).JulieYBM wrote:Yeah, it's the only summer series we basically know nothing about.Chuquita wrote:Just saw this on Twitter; Super's the only summer show left that hasn't revealed its synopsis or core staff yet? Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
This is why I figure the production was only just recently green-lit. The only way this is going to come together is if Toei Animation pours a massive amount of manpower into each episode. We'll see, though, I guess.Chuquita wrote:That's, very curious. Especially considering it's a franchise with popularity abroad.
