I'm gonna say this just once, and stop raging in comments. and Keep everything else to myself (or atleast I'll try)

I'M. SO. MOTHERFUCKING. PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW. WHY THE FUCK (End of all bad words) Does Toriyama keep this BULLSHIT PREQUELS (Ok... that was the last one...). These prequels reveal NOTHING new, atleast if his writing was on par with the frieza saga this would be good, but NO. it's just freaking Pokemon in that nothing at all is at stake anymore, and when the chance comes, he freaking takes out all the tension!. Alright, Toriyama has been my favorite mangaka until THIS day. Not anymore, Both Dragon ball and Metal gear have come with this prequel crap, but atleast Metal Gear knows how to make it interesting and relevant!.

I'm so dissapointed, let down, devastated. Hurt as fan. There was SO much potential in a series after end of z

DON'T come telling me that it's possible to that it will move after end of Z. NOPE, It's not!. Series will be dead before we move to end of Z, WHY WOULD THEY DO IT? It's the first anime after so many years and THEY DIDN'T do it. THE PERFECT MOMENT PASSED AWAY.

You know how super is gonna be??.

NOT SERIOUS AT ALL, and don't come to me with "Dragon ball doesn't take itself too seriously" BECAUSE I'LL TALK ABOUT PICCOLO DAIMAOH ARC OF ORIGINAL DRAGON BALL, and the Red Ribbon army SAGA were a guy was freaking shot in the head and a father was killed in front of his CHILD.

Ok...... I need to ventilate.... I'm sorry if my comment somehow offends you because you think this is gonna be great. please think that way, it's just that this bullshit (Ok I tried) doesn't suit me at all.

And to the guy who says "all this whining because it's not EoZ". It's because we are not getting anywhere at all. 2 prequel movies to end of z was alright, but now a series?????? WE'LL NEVER get out of this era.

Just for prediction sake, how many arc do you think DBS could have (assuming the show is good enough make the 100-200 episodes show) ?
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

Toriyama is stopping the Dragon Ball story at Z. I severely doubt he'll continue past that.

if nothing much happens in the first episode, and it takes it's time to get into the good stuff. I'd say it will be up for atleast 100 episodes.

Toriyama said that blue is a weak colour and he goes ahead and designs the strongest Saiyan form possible with blue hair. You never what that man can do. The second episode could ending up being a 100 year timeskip for all we know.

I think maybe it will be a short story of about 60+ episodes maybe?
if not then it will go close to 100 with 3 arcs but it wont get much longer than that.

Ok.... Goku is on his farm attire and still transforms into yellow ssj.... Whis and Beerus appear.

What if at the beginning, Beerus and Whis appear and say something like

Whis: Oh well, i'm pretty sure you know about Goku and his friends, he recently defeated freeza and has been training with us, but you don't know what happened between his fight with Beerus and Freeza, so we're gonna tell you.

I swear if it's that it.....

All the cursing and all-caps. Stuff like this is so childish. You're on a message board. You can re-read your stuff before you click "submit." There will never be a reason for such an outrage.

Anyway, here... we... go! :)

- I can't help but get the feeling that a lot of people watching this don't really get how TV works. Complaining about how we have to wait until the end of the episode to see the preview, and about how it was only (the standard) 15 seconds. I have no idea what people were expecting. You can't fit something the length of a movie trailer into a half-hour timeslot without messing everything up. We all knew about this from the get-go. If you expected something more substantial, that's not the promo's fault. It's all you. The website update coming tomorrow is where they'll really get the chance to dive deep.

- So, now that there are other things to discuss, is it finally safe to calmly, productively comment on the logo without getting our heads bitten off? I'm still not crazy about it. I think they did a great job with the "Super" and the "Chō," but I just can't wrap my head around why they didn't create a new design. It's not Z. Distance it from Z. It's the first new show in 18 years! Make it feel new! The fact that Kai has something more creative is very telling.

- Boy, that song ain't great. Kazuya Yoshii sounds bored out of his mind. I reserve final judgment until we hear the song in full, but things aren't looking promising. Every new series gets a different "voice." Dragon Ball had Takahashi, Z had Kageyama, Kai had Tanimoto. Unless Toei starts changing the opening theme every cour (something they've never done with DB), Yoshii's our "voice" for Super. He better be taking this seriously. He's got big shoes to fill.

- That first shot of Goku's face looked great. Very on-model to the "new" (post-2000) designs. I didn't expect to see that JUMP special outfit again. Very cute. Maybe one day we can see him, Tenshinhan, and Chaozu farming together.

- I don't think there's a single thing on planet Earth I care about less than Goten and Trunks still being kids. Goku and Kuririn stayed short through their mid-teens. They're fine. Everything is fine. I understand that people wanted everything to take place after the epilogue. I wanted that, too. I want to see Pan! But there's nothing stating we have to stay in this time period for the entire show. Give it a chance. Cynicism is a revolting quality. We still know absolutely nothing and we need to stop pretending otherwise.

- Welp, there's Kaiō. He's officially on board for the ride. I have to be honest, everyone. I'm scared. I fully expect tomorrow's website update to include a cast list, and I'm not going to handle it well if Jōji Yanami's out. He stepped down from a lot of his roles in Kai. He wasn't in the recent movie. He didn't even get a cameo in the newest Yatterman show (a franchise he's been involved with every decade since its debut in the 70s). I'm scared.

- That bottle really seems to hold something important. The next villain? An ancient evil? Water for Goku's plants? If all of these clips really do come from episode one, it looks like we'll be spending most of our time with Goten, Trunks, and the monster.

- That final shot of Goku looks equally great and on-model. I'm really looking forward to this.

The website update comes tomorrow. This shit's about to take off, gang.

I could be wrong, but I guess that's one of the things Toriyama wants to keep consistent :/

That's more of a design decision and not as crucial as when the story in, say, a movie takes place. Although Toriyama did say blue is a weak color, for SSGSS it's more of a state of tranquility than weakness.

... I don't know what I could say about the setting of this series that would be positive. I was rooting for this to take place post-EoZ because I believe, for a series as adventurous as Dragon Ball, the EoZ was the perfect timeframe for this series to take place. Infinite opportunities, actual tension, the new generation. But instead, it's taking place pre-EoZ. Gosh darn it!

I'm still definitely going to watch this, but my hype levels are severely low and I'm probably not going to enjoy it as much as I thought I would. I have no one to blame but myself, though. Damn my stupid expectations!
I tend not to post here anymore because what I say doesn't add to the conversation.

You know that action, comedy and drama can blend together in harmony? The Saiyan arc and Majin Boo arc are proof of that.

Regarding the subject of the animation:

What animation? There is next to no animation in the trailer, just a bunch of stills, all of which are hardly animation impressive. Drawing on model isn't good animation--especially when it's likely corrected by the character designer himself--it's drawing on model. Drawing expressions with some apparent passion is good animation and good storytelling.

Toei Animation doesn't have teams, by the way. In the 1960s they had two divisions--one for television animation and one for their very illustrious motion pictures--but now there is no apparent formal structure. They're not like Bones or Sunrise, which have sub-studios, Toei Animation is one large studio that is poorly coordinated.

*Hug* Let it all out. lol.

But yeah, DBZ is getting no where with prequels since we already know everything ends up just fine at the end of the day. That said, that doesn't mean it'll be trash. I mean, you're probably right; the days of Serious Ball Z are long gone. The tone and mood of this series will likely be on par with all other modern DBZ content, and contain fluff galore. But there's hope it'll at least be entertaining, and that alone is enough to keep it alive until they finally do the long awaited time skip. =D

I personally love that they may start off with some slice of life episodes before delving into the major part (which will probably be the bigger let down...).
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Why would any Metal Gear fan want a sequel after MGS4's perfect ending? We got Revengeance and that was ok at best in terms of story...MGSV is looking to be the perfect final entry by Kojima imo

You have misundestood me, that's the kind of serious stuff that db needs.

Do we find all that tension in new media?. Nope, the emotion is pathetic, only bulma cried a bit in FnF when the earth blew up, everyone else was like

Oh Gamgee, that jerk, Gohan had lost his wife and new born daughter, no tear, Krillin had lost his wife and baby girl too, almost not even troubled. The execution of serious stuff is terrible in modern dbz.

Did you miss the part where I said, the difference between mgs and dbz is that mgs actually makes GOOD prequels?
