There's already an English version sung by Kageyama so I don't think that'd be an issue (I think, maybe). Or just do it as other Anime dubs do and well, just leave it in Japanese.

Instead of King Kai, could we use King Kaio? It ties in with the Kaio Ken better and theres no reason to remove the last o. Personlly I think we should use Lord Kaio, but I won't argue if it's decided to use King Kai.

Ehh, again, if we use that, it'll end up seeming redundant. I dunno, though; it's really up to Eclipse to decide what we're gonna be using as his name. So we could still end up with that. :oops:

About the song....why not just use an edited Cha-La Head Cha-La 2005 (the mobi[le-re]make version)? It's got new vocals, and it's pretty much a faithful recreation of the original (Unlike the title track, which is pretty different)

King Kaio?! Sounds a bit bizarre. Eh, I'm more inclined towards King Kai or Lord Kaio, but yeah, what does everyone else think?

I just want to avoid the names having a repetitive meaning. Maybe Lord Kai, but probably not Lord Kaio, you know? King Kai would also make for a good alternative, though. We've just got to get people to be more comfortable about using the FUNi translation if we end up using that one. ^^;

(EDIT) Oh, great, now "Lord Kaio" actually sounds like it'd be better to use. Curse its pleasing feeling to the tongue! *shakes fist*

Hey, it's just a way of translating what people called him in the Japanese one, Kaio Sama. King Kai(o) sound like its a royalty thing, while Lord Kaio isn't very specific in why he does what he does.

Okay, I'm just gonna post this here, so nobody else has to ask (especially on the Auditions thread).

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT A GOOD RECORDING PROGRAM YOU CAN DOWNLOAD TO USE FOR YOUR AUDITIONS, LISTEN UP.

There is a certain program called ACID XPress 5.0 available for download here that you can use for voice recording. The program itself is not free; however, there is a demo available that you can download and use. It gives you the same capabilites as the Windows Sound Recorder, but with a few extra abilities and options that you can use to tweak or edit your recordings as needed (like, say, cutting out that part near the end of the recording where your friend came in and ripped one right next to the mic, or speeding up or slowing down a clip to see if you can't get a line to sound better at a different pitch). There's not really enough on the demo you can use to warp your recording into something completely different (which you really shouldn't think of doing anyway), but it does offer better capabilities than the regular Sound Recorder and it's a good program to use to set up your auditions. (I used it when recording my takes and it worked for me really well.)

I hope that helps anybody who was wondering that. Please refrain from asking any more questions about recording programs on the Auditions thread. If you have any different questions or suggestions about this issue, please post on it here instead--the other thread is meant solely for the auditions, and anything concerning them can just be carried over here. Gotta keep it relatively neat so we can find all the files, you know? :)

Thanks for heeding this... ^^;

As I said, in regards to calling him King Kaio, it wouldnt make much sense. Unless someone can say otherwise (like please seriously, if I am making a mistake, let me know so i can stop prattling on), the o in Kaio is like Oh, or Ou, or whatever, which basically denotes "King". the -Sama doesn't nessecerally mean king, or lord, or whatever (it can DENOTE it, given the context, but doesn't MEAN it), moreso it's like an invisable (in English) way of saying "With respect" before or after a respected, noteworthy, looked up to or revered persons name.

So it's be like saying "Lord King Kai", which is a bit daft.

Right. Good point. Tullece is a villain, guys! He's "dastardly." And he's not exactly a high-class Saiyan like Vegeta or Nappa were, so...

Why don't you audition, then, Xyex? Show us your best Tullece!

I believe that is one of his. He has a bunch in his sig (I've used quite a bit before, this is probably the best time to thank you for them). Are the auditions really closing on the 16th? We could get other things accomplished if we closed the polls a bit early..

Well, I wanted to leave it open long enough so that everyone who wanted to audition could get a chance. Like, me, for one. I've been really busy with school the past week (which is why I've done practically nothing on the project but answer questions), and I know Kino's in the same situation. The more time alloted, the better.

They're from the NarutoForums 2006 PinUp Calendar.

How about the 20th then? Gives them 4 more days. In the meantime, we can try to get everything else done, so when the voiceovers start, all we need is to sync it up with the video and blah blah blah =P

About the whole Kaiô thing... If we used "King Kai", we'd be translating the ô and leaving the Kai untranslated. Why would we translate one half of the word and not the other half? It's odd. Lord Kaiô is also redundant, because ô already means king (or perhaps lord), and -sama doesn't mean king or lord literally; it just shows respect.

I think Kaiô-sama, Kaiô, or a translation of the name (Lord of Worlds? World King?) would be best. I'd prefer to not have such suffixes as -san, -kun, etc. for most other characters, though. It would sound odd aloud. I'd prefer to just omit them when they're unimportant or find an accurate way to get the meaning across with English words. I do think such endings are important for some characters, like Kaiô-sama, Kami-sama, Enma-sama (Karin-sama?), though. It may seem inconsistent, but Viz uses -sama for such characters and no suffixes for anyone else, so I think it would be fine.

It'll actually probably be extended. I stated earlier that it'd would be if we still ended up having characters unauditioned for, and with everyone auditioning for mostly the same characters so far, it seems likely.

So, we'll see. In a few days, my actual work for the semester will be just about done with, and I'll be able to be more heavily involved and get things reorganized and rolling again. Until then, we'll just leave the auditions open and coast. Anyone working on anything else should just continue if there's nothing really better to do.

But in the meantime, I'd like to discuss the Music aspect of the dub.

In terms of openings and closings, I think it's pretty much already unanimous that we'll be sticking with the originals. However, I thought we might get a little creative with "Cha La" for the opening, either by having someone sing it, or using a more, for lack of a better word, "edgy" version of it, like the "Jungle Remix" or the 2005 Rock version I've heard so much about (But actually have yet to hear for myself). We've already got a person or two who have "volunteered" to sing it, so that's actually pretty likely.

Now about in-movie BGM. The most obvious choice would be to use the original Japanese score, or at least as much as various members can match via their CD collections. That, however, would be boring. At least I think so.

Steven Perry has already shared some snippets of what he can do with music, and honestly, I think it's pretty good. More heavy, dramatic, orchestral stuff seems to be a good path to take, and would help us "personalize" our dub of the movie. I personally would like to end up using instrumental music like that of Apocalyptica and Blue Man Group.

Opinions? Thoughts? Suggestions?

I agree with the last point, some of Steven Perry's little videos have been very good in that aspect. Although we should definitely have some Japanese BGM of course, just to make it as close to the original source as possible, while saying 'It's OUR dub!'

Regarding the openings, there's avideo on YouTube that uses the Budokai 3 opening with an ''TV-Size" version of Cha La Head Cha La 2005, which is really well edited. Check it out

This is where I wish there was somebody on this forum who's experienced (and good) at composing music come in and make the score for this fan dub. Orchestral stuff would sound absolutely awesome for this project (but then again this is coming from someone who loves orchestral stuff in general), but if we could use original music and not just already-established stuff, it would make the dub that much more personalized and unique.

I already have someone in mind who I know has composed some great music (and hell, even her own track for Dragonball), but the big question is whether I could get her to do the same here. Even if she were interested in doing so, she's got about the same workload as the rest of us college students have, plus a bunch of other things she's probably already got planned to do, so it might not be possible for her to compose a whole movie score.

Now, back to the opening/closing music question. I have no idea as to what we'll be doing with the closing music (keeping the original or doing something similar to what we're thinking with the intro), but as for the idea of singing it ourselves, I'm still wondering: if we record ourselves singing it, where do we put our tryouts--here or in the other thread with the rest of the auditions? And are we gonna decide between the different versions with our voice director group, or will it be decided on by general opinion (like with a poll or something)? o_o;

You know what... ? I think it'd be really cool if someone recorded a version of Cha-la with a chorus... or like, put one in there or something. :shock:

Well, hey, I like to think I gave him a nice gruff vibe in my second audition, more-so than everyone else's quiet normal-guy type of style. And just a little heads up to Kino, I hope you still reply to PMs, because there's a certain audition clip I'm ready to add your vocal talent to. Which also happens to involve my last audition clip that will soon be coming (yes, I have one more up my sleeve, and it's a doozy). :D

LOL... sorry, Conan. I did see your PM; I just haven't been able to record my part of the clip yet because of schoolwork (and my apparent tendency to shirk it @_@; ). I will get my part recorded and sent to you, though. Sorry for making you wait (you can put it up like it is now if you want; I don't want to make you wait too long to do so). :(
