Fans who watch it all often: Do you REALLY want new content?

Post by Amiable-Akuma » Thu Dec 07, 2006 10:24 pm

For those of you have seen all of the Dragon Ball series' and watch them/eps often or all the time, my question for you is this: do you really want to see new content come out of Toei in the future?

I mean, there are 150+ DB eps, 290-something DBZ eps, 64 GT eps, 2 specials, 17 movies, and the unofficial OVA. That's a lot of stuff. And it's a lot of stuff to sort of work your way through.

So I'm wondering - honestly, if once you've "worked you way through" all of it and have done it again, etc - what kinds of feelings does that leave you with?

Do you think "Wow, that was all so awesome - I love DB/Toriyama/Toei so much - I can't wait til they come out with something else DB-related - yeah! - More is always better baby!"?

Or do you think "Whew, that was a fun, long experience and I'm now truly satisfied/filled up - this is more than enough DB for me - new content is really not necessary - and I rather them leave it as it stands then try to come out with something new and risk it not actually working very well."

I want to make it clear though - I have no personal slant or bias in asking the question. I'm just legitimately curious about your honest answers.

And I'm asking mainly because I, personally, have not watched the show often enough to know what "the feeling" may be like. Therefore, I'm anxious to hear from those of you who have.

I'm a fan, but I only watched all the eps, specials, and movies one time each - and that was over 9 years ago on grainy fansub VHS tapes only. I've been collecting the DVDs but I haven't watched very much at all since then. Only now, am I about to start watching it all from the start again and so I'm curious to hear what feelings such will leave me with, has left you with.

And of course, the idea for new Dragon Ball content is always an interesting notion or point of discussion. So what's your opinion on all this as a fan? And do you think we've gotten enough or do you think we can/should still get more? Do you worry that it will be mishandled or not? And if you don't have that worry and DO want more content, what would you specifically like to see? Only a new movie, or a series too, or what?

Thanks...

The only new content that I've seen so far, other than those few seconds of new animation popping here and there, is the video games, and those aren't exactly fresh =P

I've barely watched any of the series (While I've read pretty much all of the manga, heh). Right now I don't think I need anything new, considering there's nearly 10 years of material that I'm going for right now :)

When I saw "The End" at the end of the last episode of GT, I cried a little inside and knew it was over. The ending was perfect.

No, sir, I don't want any more.

If any new content were to show up, it should be content that disproves the existence of DBGT. :P

Even though I enjoy what ifs, I feel that there is more than enough content in the dragon world. There is enough to keep this forum filled with questions, right? The only content that I would really enjoy is some back stories that wouldn't clash with what is already known or closure for blunders within the story.

The only new content I might welcome is OVA/Movie re-tellings of the DBZ series, ala the 10th Anniversary DB Movie.

I was just about to say the same thing. Otherwise, I'm perfectly satisfied with the amount of DB content out there.

It's possible I'd like to see some original stories done for future video games though. (The "what-if" with Raditz in BT2 was a step in the right direction, although poorly animated.)
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

I would like to see a new Z Movie, directed by Toriyama himself.

I would like to see a fully expansive, fully interactive Dragon Ball adventure that's in the vein of the Dragon Quest &/or Zelda series. You get the fly around in the Kinto' Un with young Son Goku in the Dragon World. You get to play every story arc up until Piccolo Jr. including the feature films like Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle. I would so love to fight Lucifer & his demons. The world map would be something similar to Dragon Quest VIII. Just frikkin huge, nothing like the Sparking! NEO & Budokai 3 Map. The gameplay would be something similar to Zelda using the Noiybo as your weapon, the Senzu as a healing item, Kamehameha, After Image, Jan Ken, Oozaru, Buku-Jutsu, as ablities you recieve as the game progresses. Also they actually take their sweet ass time with developing this dream game rather than churning it out annually. I'm sick & tired of yearly Dragon Ball fighting games. For once, I would like to see a platform/action adventure type of Dragon Ball game (highly ignoring Sagas).

Also, I pretty much agree with MajinVejitaXV.

Well as far as the games go they deffenitly need to do something diffrient, either Retellings, or a MMO, or just something that isn't the same old stuff over and over.

As for animation, you know there's been talk for years of a live action DBZ movie (or series of movies) and we all know that turn out terrible, so to remedy that I say animate all new movies in place of what would be live action, ie do a theatrical animated movie that condenses the Saiyan Saga (and then eventualy a second about the Freeza Saga, and so on) that way we get new animation, something in theaters, something new/diffrient, a replacement to a possible (new American) live action movie, etc, etc.

I'd love a new series, if it's good, but that won't happen without toriyama being involved.

I'm fine with my complete Manga set, complete library of the movies, and various DVD's of series highlights, as well as SDBZ and B3 for VG needs.

I really don't see the point in having more. And I don't want to spend money getting it. I'm already losing cash trying to play the entire Compilation of FFVII.

If I ever see new anime-based content from Toei, I'd like it just to be stuff like game footage, or at the very most, a new movie or OVA. The series themselves should really be left alone, other than remasters and such.

But if they wanted to redo GT, with notably less suckiness, I'd be okay with that, too.

I'd like an OVA. Unfortunately, I know what goes on over at Spike..

Unique Developer: Hey! We've been using the exact same story in B1,2,3,Sparking and NEO! Perhaps we should go Playdia on everyone's asses and create an brand new OVA just for the game! Fans will go nuts!

Unfortunately, there's always the other person..

Other Person: Are you stupid? Sure we can use the same story again? Are you forgetting that we haven't used GT Kid Goku and Bio-Broli yet? When the next game comes out, we'll just include some more fake fights for shorter arcs (Goku vs Vegeta at the end of movie 12? WTF?).

UD: Sir, atleast some full Dragon Ball arcs? People really want Piccolo Daimao.

OP: ARE YOU STUPID? NOBODY CARES ABOUT DRAGON BALL! We need more GT stuff. Start developing Goku Jr. and Vegeta Jr. RIGHT NOW!

And so on. :?

They should produce a few new movies, maybe a GT one that does focus on Vegeta JR & Goku JR.

I always thourght they could make a series based on the saiyans, the Bardock movie was great and I think if they made a small series focusing on what was going on more specifically with the saiyans maybe introduce some new characters and there back story too. Then introduce Freezer and how things changed. I know this is shown but if they did it in more detail instead of flash backs it could be interesting.

I completely forgot about this earlier but around the time GT ended in Japan, there was an interview with Masako Nozawa (Goku, Gohan, Goten, Bardock, Turles) asking what the future of Dragon Ball would be, ie like a new series or new movies, and she said there was talk of doing more TV Specials (like one a year IIRC) but obviously this never came to be. Probaly cause of the backlash against GT.

Anyways though if they ever did a new DB series, I know a lot of people would either like to see GT redone or its continuation, but I say do something thats set thousands of years in the future, specifcly about the next Legendary Super Saiyan, that way they'd be able to start completely from scratch somewhat, and wouldn't have to worry about ruining any past chars, stories, or go into what specificly happend to all the past chars or what happend in this 10,000 (or whatever it was for a LSS) gap. I mean I just see something like that having the least amount of problems as far as a new series goes.

That's one of the things I've always wanted to see, as well: a series or OVA of some sort about Super Saiyan generations of the past or future.

The problem is, it wouldn't be as popular without Goku and company involved.
