Wow, Goten sure seems to be a central character this time around, He gets some father-son bonding with Goku, his usual Trunks hang out and seems to love his sister in law dearly trying to get her a good gift. All in one episode.

Maybe they're grooming him to become the main character in the future! And then they'll throw that idea away at the last second and make Goku the main character again.

I have been saying this for a while now. Thats why i was hoping for Uub, Pan, Bra+ new characters to slowly take over the show if they had started at EoZ.

EoZ Goten and Gt Goten has same personality. With Goten being a teenager now and Trunks having a girlfriend. I can see a short Goten having being interested in girls.

If we were to ever next-gen, I'd like to see them take another shot at Pan (I liked EoZ Pan so much; her GT self was a huge disappointment to me), but I don't mind settling for them developing Goten's character instead. In Z he never did get time to really set himself apart from Trunks' cute sidekick, after all.

I do get vague "Usagi and ChibiUsa" vibes off of Gokû and Goten's relationship in chapter 1 of Super's manga (only less caustic, Usagi and ChibiUsa tease each other more) but those vibes aren't a bad thing, imo.

Oh shit forgot about that . Well I'll love to see more cunning and devious Goten. I know it'll annoy people but kinda like how Goku was in Boo Arc and when Krillin first debut.

Toriyama never changed this and never will. He might have considered having Gohan assume the mantle during serialization, but now it's just hopeless. If, and I mean IF he were to change the main character, he'd probably pick Goten, your one-dimensional Goku carbon copy. Post-EoZ we have Pan and Bra but they are girls, so only Oob has a chance (a very, very slim one though) and honestly, I don't find him that interesting.

-About the timeframe-
Like I thought this doesn't take place much further from Buu arc. Well this one was easy though... The Satan's money scene just make it obvious this couldn't take place in BOG timeline. So, everything may happen sooner and they will have more material to work within this gap. ‪#‎Stuckinthis10yeargapforever‬

Like I thought this doesn't take place much further from Buu arc. Well this one was easy though... The Satan's money scene just make it obvious this couldn't take place in BOG timeline.‪

The clincher for me was the beginning of the manga chapter, where the narrator staters "days and months pass by"(paraphrased).
Always thought it wouldn't make much sense to have it worded like that, if it's supposed to take place +4 years after Buu.
So I'm very pleased with this, since it couldn't be EoZ.

This went against all my expectations. I had initially hoped for a post-EoZ plot but feared they would do a Post-RoF setting. Then the first bits of info started to trickle down and felt sad because it could be Pre-Rof.... then things pointed out at Pre-BoG... and finally we got confirmation that is Post-Buu.

Post-Buu.

It should be. They don't have to meet each other.
They were both in Namek and never crossed paths. Its not a rule.

But do they even really care that much about that one line about the 5 years?

If anything, I think we're only stuck because:
-marketing to a shounen audience means it's improbable to allow Pan to be the sole main character which is a whole other topic altogether
-95!Toriyama having gone out of his way to make continuing off EoZ appear undesirable to himself so he wouldn't want to go back there (I think he probably could've written Uub in a way that was more interesting to himself if he had wanted to).

This series has tons of retcons. A few more wouldn't hurt.
