Favorite voice for Vegeta?

Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
For someone who only watched the Japanese version and listend to the English voices after that, it's definitely Horikawa. Sabat makes Vegeta sound like a stereotypical "tough guy". It's just not...Vegeta-like. I guess that's how Nozawa's haters feel.
Still, I think Horikawa's voice has gotten really weak. Especially in BoG.

Well, I think he was weak in BOG(and Nozawa was too), but in Majin Buu Kai arc, I had the same feeling with his voice as in other older times.Avery wrote:For someone who only watched the Japanese version and listend to the English voices after that, it's definitely Horikawa. Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
My favorite is the current Sabat, with Horikawa being a close second. If we used the Z dubs then Horikawa wins no question.

Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
Like what most people say, Brian Drummand fit early Saiyan & pre-Freeza saga Vegeta where he was younger and more sadistic, where as Sabat fit better for older Cell Saga & Buu saga Vegeta. However Chris' Vegeta voice took years to find apparently, as it always changed and for the longest time had that horrible gruff, deep raspiness (remastered version) similar to his original piccolo's voice which I hated. However by the Buu saga he finally dropped it and lightened the pitch to my prefered tone.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Horikawa's still got it. His delivery in Fukkatsu against Freeza is spot-on.

Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
I really don't like Chris Sabat's Vegeta. Brian Drummond is my favourite by an absolute mile. No other voice actor has made my hair stand on end like his has, "it's over 9000", his rage on Namek when Gohan tricked Vegeta, total nutjob. Final Flash, his cockyness.........The guy aced it in my opinion.
I can't find anything really all that great about Sabat. All of his characters in anime sound the same, nothing about his Vegeta voice is unique, he is shouting WAY too much as well. He is one of the main reasons why i'm not a fan of Fuminations dub. He voice's too many characters and they all sound very similar. I can hear Chris Sabat's real voice in every single one of his characters and it's a bit off putting. I actually prefered his original Vegeta to the Vegeta he plays now because at least back then he put on a different voice instead of his own voice.

Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
Tie between Ryo and current Chirs Sabat (Kai, BoG, RF).
Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
Ryo Horikawa IS Vegeta. The only actor I've heard that actually makes the character sound somewhat realistic. He can voice the more epic scenes without going too over the top, while also giving weight to the more dramatic sequences. Not to mention, his screams are legendary. Definitely the most well rounded Vegeta voice, and above all, just a damn good actor. It's amazing how much that's taken for granted, given the dubs.
That said, I did grow up, more or less watching Funimation's version of the show, so I've got to be honest in saying that Chris Sabat is my favorite Vegeta. Starting out, he was just a mediocre actor doing a crappy Brian Drummond impression, but he has really grown since then. By the middle of the Cell saga he finally made the voice his own, and now with Kai, his acting is the best it's ever been. It's been a really cool experience seeing him get better and better as time goes by.
I've also got to give credit to Brian Drummond. Whereas Sabat took a while to get his acting down, it's clear that Drummond was the only real actor of the two, starting out (Watching the Vegeta and 18 fight between Westwood and Funimation is like night and day). My only problem with him is that his voice for the character is just a bit too over-the-top villainous for my taste. You could swap Vegeta with a literal snake, and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. It's unfair to judge his past voice though, as he hasn't played the character in years, and when he did, the productions were either too cheap and rushed (Westwood), or too focused on making the show kid friendly (1996 Funimation). This is probably the biggest reason why I'm so pissed at Funimation for delaying Ocean's Kai. It would be the first time that fans could judge his voice fairly, with the right production behind him.
Until then, however, Horikawa is still the best Vegeta, while Sabat is my current favorite.

If this thread were on a YouTube video, you would have it raining with nostalgia FUNi kids who would call you "weaboo" at every turn for even bringing this topic up, let alone saying a lot of us fans like Horikawa better.

Ryo Horikawa for sure, he sounds more like an arrogant prince.
Brian Drummond is my favorite English Vegeta with Chris Sabat being a close second.
Filipino Vegeta is pretty good too:

Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
Brian Drummond, despite basically just using a Ren Hoek impression voice, was outstanding as Vegeta and remains my favorite. Chris Sabat and Horikawa have also been consistently good in the role.
I also sort of liked the "Old Bastard" from the Big Green dub. His voice is actually probably the closest to Horikawa in terms of English dubs.

Horikawa's voice is more high-pitched and younger than Old Bastard's one.Kakacarrottop wrote:Brian Drummond, despite basically just using a Ren Hoek impression voice, was outstanding as Vegeta and remains my favorite. Chris Sabat and Horikawa have also been consistently good in the role.

Anyway, Old Bastard is not a good Vegeta, but he is far better than others like the malaysian english or the old serbian.

Re: Favorite voice for Vegeta?
I will never understand this type criticism to Drummond's Vegeta, it's so nonsensical. You can't ignore the fact that Vegeta was an evil bastard all the way throughout Z, he did evil things in every single saga he was in. He was never a true "good guy" and thus never deserved the voice of a heroic person. Drummond played the character the right way in my opinion, despite only having one shot at Vegeta (and few years hiatus from the role after the Saban split) he did a better job than Sabat of analysing the character he was playing.Man-Child wrote:My only problem with him is that his voice for the character is just a bit too over-the-top villainous for my taste. Sabat's voice sounds more regal than Drummonds but I never saw Vegeta as much of a regal personality anyway. King Vegeta was the only Saiyan who seemed to display that type of trait. Vegeta, not so much. This is besides the fact that I always felt Sabat was too deep sounding anyway (especially his Z voice). When Vegeta, a character who's close to Krillin in terms of height, has a deeper voice than a giant like Nappa, you have a problem (And yes I know some short people have deep voices but exceptions don't break a rule).

Its funny because many people simply doesn't remind that Vegeta in terms of height is close to Krillin.NitroEX wrote:I will never understand this type criticism to Drummond's Vegeta, it's so nonsensical. And I think that for the original Z dub, Drummond did a better Vegeta than Sabat too.

Drummond's Vegeta aka The Next Dimension Vegeta. I'm sorry but i just cant take him seriously...
