What's wrong with the Blue Brick footage, though? It's in 4:3, unlike the DBZ Seasons.

Nothing wrong with it, I was just presenting a cheaper way to get the saga sets, if he wanted that!

Wrong, there are things very wrong with it. Horrific Digital Noise reduction being the worst. It had many other issues as well.

That would be exactly what I'm looking for! Uncut, no cropping, and the choice between full JAP or full ENG audio. Too bad it doesn't exist

If 4:3 is a big deal for you, your best bet is to track down the FUNimation Dragon Boxes.

The Singles have the US Dub Audio with the US Score, but there's no such thing as a complete release of these that are uncut.

You can get Eps 1-39 in the "Ultimate Uncut" editions that are indeed uncut.
You can also get eps 66-291 in the original single format too which are also uncut.
Episodes 40-65 however were NEVER released uncut in this format, they canceled the release in favor of the Orange Brick "Season" sets. So, the only singles you can get of these episodes are the edited dub-only ones using the old Ocean dub.

Another problem with these singles is the quality of the video. They aren't cropped, which already puts them ahead of the Orange Bricks, but they had their Contrast turned WAY up to try to make the colors pop more, and while it does achieve that (kinda) it caused major issues such as crushed blacks and especially causing the film grain to look REALLY Bad...

The Level Blu-ray sets were honestly perfect. They had all the audio tracks, so no matter what you preferred it was there. They were 4:3, and the remastering was done with care. It didn't touch the grain, so it didn't destroy the integrity of the footage.... they looked amazing.... too bad they were cancelled.


Really, what it comes down to is you have to ask yourself an important question:

"What Matters more to you? Video Quality including the Aspect Ratio, or having the Faulconer Music?"

If your answer is Video Quality/Aspect Ratio, Hunt down the FUNimation Dragon Boxes.

If your answer is the Faulconer score, the Blu-ray season sets are gonna be your best bet. They're still horrid, but they're the least horrid when it comes to FUNimation products.

The level sets were not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The series dubtitles were absent on the level sets, which were included on the Funimation singles. I am hard of hearing so dubtitles are a very important feature for me and I felt seriously ripped off I spend so much on the level sets when they took my dubtitles away. The level sets also kinda suck because they don't feature the dub+japanese score that the Dragon boxes have. It makes watchthrews very very inconsistant for dub fans like me because you get to see dragon ball with the original japanese music, but are forced to use the crappy bruce falconer score for the level set if you are watching the dub, then you again have the option to use the japanese score + dub on the Dragon Boxes, Blu-Ray Season sets, or even the fricking orange bricks for crying out loud.

You mean 1-27 were released in the Ultimate Uncut line and 28-67 were never released uncut. And I agree that the Season BDs are your best bet with what we have for people who want to hear the US music.

Oh wow, whoops. Yeah. I forgot, 1-39 were SOLICITED, there were ads for the DVDS up to that point but the last few never saw print.

The level sets were not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The series dubtitles were absent on the level sets, which were included on the Funimation singles. Sorry, Before Dragonball Kai, every DB Property has an absolutely Horrid dub, so I loathe any dubbed Dragonball property pre-Kai and therefore barely pay attention to the dub features at all, so I didn't know any of that.
