Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
Hard to explain to anyone else, but it shouldn't even be hard to explain to DB Fans.
We all know the "Dragon Ball magic" the feel you have when watching or reading DB. For me the feeling is the strongest on the Classic DB (Search for Dragon balls arc to Piccolo Jr. Arc). And It's that kind of feeling that no other anime has come close to give me... Or does it?.
For me, the anime that has produced that kind of "DB Magic" feeling on me is...
Hunter x Hunter, the first parts of the story give me that dragon ball adventure feeling. It's pretty funny, has unique character and interesting fighting methods (although more complex while classic db had simple technique mechanics). It gradually goes into the dark stuff instead of throwing it all at once.
Now that it's pretty much finished the most important arc, which THANK GOD has a END Arc feeling, or else it would have become a mess in my heart lol. and it's practically a death franchise in the sense that it might never stop being on hiatus (freaking lazy Togashi). I look to the first arcs and get a similar feel of nostalgia. It has become my second favorite anime after DB.

Definitely One Piece. It's a very upbeat series with lots of lighthearted humor and just the right amount of dark stuff here and there. Some of the fight scenes/standoffs also feel very DB-ish. And Luffy is clearly inspired by Goku in several ways.

No.
I enjoy other series such as Naruto&One Piece but as of now non of the shows I watch have what makes Db what it is.

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
Dragon Ball and Death Note are the only anime I love so much. Considering that I dislike almost every other Shounen anime, and that I care so much about deep, well-thought plots (something DB doesn't really have), then yes. It must have some sort of magic that no other anime has.

No, just Dragon Ball.
My second favorite franchise is One Piece, and I love it, but I don't love it more than Dragon Ball and I think I will never love any franchise more than Dragon Ball. Nothing gets me as excited for new stuff as Dragon Ball, nothing makes me laugh and smile at the most mundane things like Dragon Ball, nothing makes me happier than watching a new episode of Dragon Ball every week, nothing makes me as pumped as new Dragon Ball lore being revealed, nothing else gives me of a feeling like I'm forced to buy merchandise like Dragon Ball, no character will ever make me think of them as a role model as Son Goku has, and so on, you get the point.

I agree with this sentiment. I've watch many shonen anime Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Death Note, Soul Eater, Fairy Tail, YuYu Hakusho, Saint Seiya, Fist Of The North Star, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, you name em, but none of them have that unique magic that Dragon Ball has.sintzu wrote:No.

Yep. The original manga ran publication in WSJ from 03 to 06.Avery wrote:Lord Beerus wrote:I agree with this sentiment. Death Note is a Shounen?
Spoiler:
Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
Yup! The 'shōnen demographic' just means anything targeted at young males; ranging from very young up to a slighter maturer age range. Sometimes people confuse 'battle shōnen' with the entire demographic, so there's that, too.Avery wrote:Death Note is a Shounen?
Death Note is fairly dark at times, but it never verges too deep nor is its plot complex enough to really push it into a higher age bracket. I think most kids would find following it pretty easy, even if the significance of the concepts are lost on them.
I guess it's similar to how Fullmetal Alchemist has some extremely disturbing undertones, but is mostly fine for kids on the whole. Little bits for every part of the bracket!

Anime, no. The original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga has, though, with its mixture of mythology and brutality.
Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
Rurouni Kenshin, for a while. But it didn't have quite the "staying power" somehow. I still love it, but I just didn't love so many of the supporting characters, so it is not as all encompassing as that.
Also, to probably more strongly but in a different way, Tokyo Babylon/X. But with the cancellation of the manga, I lost hope that it would ever be finished, and thus detached my interest since there would never be closure. Of course, you can't really get "warm fuzzies" from an apocalypic/end times/assassins and wizards manga, I still loved the characters and the world presented a lot.
I think it helps that there is always new Dragon Ball material out there. And even if there isn't, there is a large enough fanbase that it never really goes away.

Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
Not really, I've tried out most of the other anime that were brought up in the thread and they neither caught my interest nor had the DB magic.
Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
In terms of giving me the "Dragon Ball feeling" a.k.a. a feeling of adventure, comedy, action and goofy characters, the only other show that's ever given me that feeling is Avatar: The Last Airbender. In my ways I consider it to be the true "next Dragon Ball" versus giving that title to One Piece or Naruto.

In terms of action, excitement, and cool factor (once we disregard the fact that the main characters are middle schoolers), definitely Yu Yu Hakusho. Adventure, cheerfulness, and color? Hunter x Hunter.
On that note, I'd be very excited for a Togashi-written DBZ sequel.

"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: Has any other anime transmited the "DB magic" to you?
I've loved other anime to death, but for other reasons. One that always comes to mind is the excellent Monster. Death Note was great, too, but its ending kinda ruined things. Slam Dunk is another I really, really liked, too.
Edit: As mentioned by others and I agree: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood was freaking awesome as well. And I really, really liked Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter as mentioned by others. Plus Ruroni Kenshin minus the last arc.
Edit 2: How in heavens could I forget about First of the North star? That sure gave me a lot of epic feelings for a looong while. Actually, I think the second season shouldn't have been made. It kinda ruined things.

Hakusho gave me the same feeling. A weird thing I'd like to mention, even though it's off topic, is that Naruto gave me a really distinct feeling as well, and Hunter x Hunter (2011) gave me the same one, which I totally didn't expect. I just don't think Togashi can fail at hooking me.

If you mean a show that gives off a similar vibe, then... no, to be honest. DB is its own beast. If you're talking about another series that I love and it just makes me happy like a blubbering idiot in the same vein, then Konjiki no Gash!! and BLEACH are the other two.

Nah, just Dragon Ball, some people say DB and OP are very alike but for me I just dont see it, heck I dont even enjoy and watch OP. Gintama on the other hand is quite interesting despite no DB magic in it besides parody lol.

No, Dragon Ball series is in another level <3. Its a different magic and the most important series to me. This series will keep me company forever.
But I do love, Gintama and HunterxHunter a lot too.
