What are some of the old voices that you miss?

Post by EXBadguy » Fri Jul 24, 2015 8:26 pm

Well as some of yall know from the VG section that after 7-8 years, I (re)brought a PS2 from a trade-game store and brought Budokai 2&3(and BT2 a few weeks after) along with some other games. Those three games made me realize how I miss the old voices, no matter how bad some where. It felt like somebody busted a nostalgia cap in my brain after hearing the old voices again. So I wanna know from you guys if you miss some of the old voices.

Let's see...there's a lot of old voices I miss, but the ones I miss the most are Linda Young, Stephanie Nadolny(DEFINITELY), Brice Armstrong(for Ginyu), and Duncan Brennan. I also miss the old versions of Sabat and Schemmel. And it doesn't have to just be the dub, other ones are welcome. Now, even though I'm not that fond with the original, the old vo few voices I miss are Kenji Utsumi(for Recoome, RIP BTW), Daisuke Gori(man he was good!) and Sho Hayami(I dunno why HE was replaced).

I know life goes on, but dammit, can't a guy get sentimental for a bit?

Oh Daisuke Gori. :(

For Jōji Yanami to heal up from whatever illness befell him (I'm not gonna pry, it's none of my business) because when you listen to his Kaio in Super compared to his Kaio even from as recently as BOG, he's just not feeling well. I would link a video of his performance from Z, but apparently every clip I find on YouTube is from an international dub.
On hiatus.

I grew up on the Ocean/Saban Dub back in the 90's, so def Brian Drummond for Vegeta and Scott McNeil for Piccolo.

And even though he was horribly misdirected post-Freeza, Peter Kelamis's Goku was the ONLY English VA that came close to Nozawa's charm and strength and actually GOT the character imo.

and of course Daisuke Gori's Mr. Satan and Hirotaka Suzuoki's Ten.

*edit: Kouhei Miyauchi! Jii-chan... ;_;

Mostly Stephanie Nadolny, and Linda Young to an extent. Their replacements are both solid but I have to say I still prefer Nadolny's Gohan.

I'll be original and say Akira Kamiya. I was extremely disappointed when I first watched the Garlic Jr. arc in Z and found he had been recast.
Chiba is a good actor, of course, but god damn he did not live up to Kamiya's original performance.

I'd have to third that, especially in the case of Miyauchi. I can work with just about any other Roshi voice I've ever watched the show with (outside of his Path to Power actor...Kinya Aikawa, I believe?), but nobody has ever been able to hold a candle to how well Miyauchi embodied that role. I don't think anyone ever will either.

Beyond that, hmm...I definitely miss Nadolny for her younger Goku, which was still the best English performance of the role in my book. I also miss Brice Armstrong's presence in the series.

I think this might be the place to point this out, but I just heard on the podcast today that Gori-San had passed. I had no idea, and immediately I had the feeling of the sinking heart.

Mr. LaBrie didn't feel to mention it 5 years later; I felt I shouldn't add it, as late to the party.

Ian Corlett as Goku (and to a lesser extent Kelamis)

Ted Cole as Yamcha (way better than Sabat)

David Kaye as Recoome (way better than Sabat)

Paul Dobson as Zarbon (way better than Sabat and the Kai guy)

Terry Klassen as Guldo (this voice is nostalgic)

Ward Perry as Turles (the new VA sounds like He-Man)

I miss Saffron Henderson - easily the best young Goku and Gohan from the dub. I also would have to go with Gori and Miyauchi. Who was the actor who played Fortuneteller Baba in the JPN version before Tanaka took over the role?

Sabat was good as Yamcha once he dropped the surfer accent, but Ted Cole was effortless. It's too bad FUNi and the Canadian actors can't mix and match.

Compared to the new Sabat, yeah I agree, but to the old one, I'd say they're both were good. I mean, Sabat's Recoome voice for the Budokai games sounded almost like Kaye, big and tough.

I miss Daisuke Gouri and Hirotaka Suzuoka.

And for english dubs, I miss Ian Corlett and Peter Kelamis(from Ocean dub).

And for other dubs, I miss Santiago Ziesmer(first german Vegeta, with a better direction and a little changing of tone he could be totally awesome) and Daoiz Cabezudo(the original narrator from the brazilian Z dub, he was amazing, but he died in 2006; also, he was the first voice for Squidward Tentacles too in brazilian dub of Spongebob).

I also miss most of the Ocean dub cast. I like the great voices in Kai, but the actors who played Puar, Kaio, and especially Ox King are sorely missed.
