I think it's mostly the baby talk throwing you off, probably. Kara Edwards sounds just fine as Videl, at least IMO - though she admittedly does perform the role in a bit of a different (IE less 'cutesy') way than how Minaguchi's voice for the role sounds.

Perhaps! I don't remember having an issue with her in the few times I watched Battle of Gods dubbed. I think I just find judging dubs by small clips difficult because you don't really get a sense of the performance they're going for. I had a similar issue with Jason Douglas' Beerus in the original clips we got of him, but I ended up loving his performance in the context of the full film.

Yeah, the portions of that clip where she isn't baby talking to Pan seem pretty much in line with the BOG dub when I saw that in theaters not too long ago. Overall, it sounds pretty close to what I remember from the original Buu Arc dub too (which, admittedly, was years ago for me), but like everyone else over time, she seems to have gotten better from what I remember.

She sounds older than she used to, but she is literally older (Funi Buu was over 10 years ago) so it doesn't bother me.

Personally, I think just about everyone sounds better nowadays via the better direction style that Sabat is using (that and them actually knowing what they're working on and all). Even Elise Baughman, who I already liked in GT unlike most, I thought sounded even better just in Xenoverse, so I'm definitely hoping we get to see an older Pan at some point in Super.

The one exception of course being Eric Vale's Trunks, who I still don't understand what's going on there.

Overall though, if you're not familiar enough with the English cast to remember what they sound like in your head, then I can see why any given clip would be kinda jarring to anyone.

Vale has the tone for Trunks, but the gruff rasp he gives the performance is baffling and seems to have gotten increasingly prominent as years have passed.

Which is funny because its almost non-existent in other roles such as Loke from Fairy Tail - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vr5OPucyo0

If he only got rid of that rasp. Laura Bailey did it for Kid Trunks I see no reason why he cant do the same.

That's exactly what makes it so confusing for me, yeah. Vale's acting for Trunks is definitely better than it's ever been, but the voice itself was better back in the day. I dunno if the rasp is coming from him trying to sound younger to fit the character's age more (as he was much younger back when he first performed the part), or what, but there's definitely something amiss.

I don't know if "acting" was the right word to use there. Maybe "delivery" would be better? I don't know anything about acting. :P

I think Vale, by proxy of Trunks being Vegeta's son, is absorbing the rasp that Sabat is losing for the character. I kinda think it's hilarious.

The voice direction for the post Kai Dragon Ball related dubs definitely sound better than the pre Kai days, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of the way the characters in these dubs speak nowadays. It's good that they toned down the corny jokes, but the way the characters talk sounds kind of weird. It seems like pretty much every character has to speak in a sophisticated manner to the point where it just sounds unnatural. This was especially a problem with Bulma and Freeza in the Kai dub. At the very worst, the characters sometimes talk like they're from the Speed Racer dub.

But at the rate its going, were skipping Sabat entirely and hitting Drummond levels of rasp.

Does Vale smoke or do...damage to his vocal chords?

Just saw an ad for the Japanese home release:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIN8gqkbwFU
Nothing particularly interesting, just a re-edit of the second theatrical trailer.

EDIT: Oh, and here's another one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd3Lvr1K5U8
I guess these fell under the radar amongst all the Dragon Ball Super hype.

By the way, with the news that the UK is receiving its home release so soon, it's getting quite hard to justify shelling out for the Japanese limited edition. Whether I have the money for it will obviously be the deciding factor, but I think the extras that are contained within the second disc will also be important. Right now, I'm very interested in the storyboard book and CD Japan's pre-order bonus, which is the poster.

Oh, and I already have BOG, but I really want to get this for some reason:

Even if Funimation released Resurrection F in October as well, I'm still happy with my decision to purchase the Japanese Limited Edition for the Golden Freeza clock and the storyboard book. The "special booklet" and the bonus disc extras (as well as any other potential surprises) are just icing on the cake.

Yeah I have Japanese on order too! It was £60 something when I ordered and it's now down to £40 something and adding Manga's Blu-ray it's back up what I roughly ordered it at, so that worked out nicely :)

This movie's now sporting a very handsome 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. :P

I found this review particularly interesting. Always fascinating to get that outsider/non-fan perspective:

Any idea if FUNi are planning a special release of some sort or is it just the typical combo pack?

That would be pretty nice is true. The 20th would probably have been my release date of choice too, just to tie in with Extreme Butoden's release.
