"Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Looks photoshopped. Also I think that's from the Super Start Guide and it's actually two question marks there instead of a name.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It's definitely from the Super Start Guide. So unless the reprint edition decided to reveal her name for some reason (though I'm not even sure if that's out yet), it's fake.

Is it true that Toei is sending "Cease letters" to those people or teams who are subbing Super episode ?

EVERY anime gets subbed and posted online so telling people to stop it won't do anything.SSJGBGoku wrote:Is it true that Toei is sending "Cease letters" to those people or teams who are subbing Super episode ?

They might not be able to stop it but they can reduce the number of people watching it by letting Funimation and other companies sub and show it officially on their sites.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
If that's true I am not sure what TOEI were expecting, so they said no to FUNimation and presumably other companies too but did they really think that would mean people wouldn't watch Super (outside of Japan)? I really don't understand how TOEI operate sometimes. I am not sure how simulcasts work money wise but I assume TOEI would make some decent cash, no?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It was Toei Europe who sent out the cease and desist. It was directed a French fansubbing group. I don't know whether that's because they have plans to do something in that country, but Toei Japan aren't targeting anyone that we know of right now. Not in the English fandom at least.

Yes. Follow-up question is of course "Is it true Toei is completly out of touch?"SSJGBGoku wrote:Is it true that Toei is sending "Cease letters" to those people or teams who are subbing Super episode ?

Given that they've done basically nothing (that we know of) about the international release of the newest instalment of their biggest overseas moneymaker?Basaku wrote: Follow-up question is of course "Is it true Toei is completly out of touch?"
Yes.

Fans are the ones out of touch if they think they can get away with stealing, translating and then promoting somebody else's work as their own without getting into any sort of trouble.

I'm not condoning anything, but the point is Toei should know that some people somewhere will do it, and it will cost them revenue if they delay on putting out an official release too long. It's just a bad business decision.JulieYBM wrote:Fans are the ones out of touch if they think they can get away with stealing, translating and then promoting somebody else's work as their own without getting into any sort of trouble.
(Plus, sort of a nitpick, but I don't think "promoting somebody else's work as their own" is accurate. Nobody's gonna watch a fansubbed anime and go "Wow, this website is amazing, they make really good anime!" They know where it comes from.)

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Toei Animation isn't the only one with money at stake, here. Plenty of other folks involved with the project could be holding up even a simulcast. Foreign markets are always the least important market, especially when the original publisher doesn't necessarily have the money on hand to make any sort of big push.Captain Space wrote:I'm not condoning anything, but the point is Toei should know that some people somewhere will do it, and it will cost them revenue if they delay on putting out an official release too long. It's also important to remember that the speed of production for this series is so quick there is next to no time to put materials together for foreign licensees, especially when the rest of the studio is busy trying to put together over a half dozen other projects, to say nothing of cementing domestic licensing deals.
People aren't that smart, trust me.(Plus, sort of a nitpick, but I don't think "promoting somebody else's work as their own" is accurate. Nobody's gonna watch a fansubbed anime and go "Wow, this website is amazing, they make really good anime!" They know where it comes from.)
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Toei can't be completely out of touch though, they work with Funi to simulcast One Piece and that's arguably their biggest domestic seller. I think they must have some ridiculous demand related to international rights for Super because they know Dragon Ball is the more popular one overseas. I read the reason we don't have Precure is Toei wants it all licensed as one show instead of 11 shows.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm pretty sure that we will get the show sooner then later. We got ROF quicker then expected and it seems like Funimation wants their dub to be as perfect as possible. I think by 2016, we should get a English dub on Toonami. I also do feel like that Funimation wants both the dub and sub to be out around the same time since they would get more traffic on their website and the dub of DB always sells better then sub does. Only a niche group of fans in the US watch the series sub.
Also this is the first DB series in nearly 20 years. Toei could just want Super to air in Japan first before the rest of the world gets it. The Japanese market is always the main market for Dragon Ball (expect for a few things).

Okay, I overestimated/overplayed some aspects in my rush to create a counterpoint, for which I apologise.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Inst the Precure series made to sell toys to young girls? It could be that there is a very little market to the show since most girls under the age of 13 don't seem to care that much about action shows. I have two little cousins that are girls, both are 12 and 8. They don't seem to care for action shows, they are more into comedy and drama shows on Nick and Disney.Chuquita wrote:I read the reason we don't have Precure is Toei wants it all licensed as one show instead of 11 shows.

Question: In Episode 2 of DB Super, during the scene on the unknown planet, where the dragon breathed fire on those creatures and then the yellow animal with the hammer smacked him, was that animated by Shida?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I believe that was Oonishi Ryou.FutureGohanSSJ2 wrote:Question: In Episode 2 of DB Super, during the scene on the unknown planet, where the dragon breathed fire on those creatures and then the yellow animal with the hammer smacked him, was that animated by Shida?

Ah. The flowingness of the animation in that scene reminded me of Shida.CashmanX wrote:I believe that was Oonishi Ryou.FutureGohanSSJ2 wrote:Question: In Episode 2 of DB Super, during the scene on the unknown planet, where the dragon breathed fire on those creatures and then the yellow animal with the hammer smacked him, was that animated by Shida?

It was Hayashi Yuuki, according to JulieYBM. Ryo Oonishi isn't credited for episode 2.FutureGohanSSJ2 wrote:Ah. They - Oonishi and Shida - are both some of the best animators Toei has available. Oonishi did a very fluid cut for BoG, though.
Shida has a very distinct style, notice the shading.
