Pilaf's gang... What happened?
Yeah, so after watching the 4th episode of Dragon Ball Super, I just can't stop but wonder, what the ... happened with Pilaf and his followers after Piccolo daimao saga and before Dragon Ball Super. I also wonder how is it even possible, that May and Shu are still following him?
Let's look at Pilaf in early DB, when we get to see him for the first time, he is incredibly rich and cruel, goofy, but cruel. He can afford ANYTHING you can simply think off, giant palace - check, super advanced technology - check, dinners so big that even Goku wouldn't be able to eat it all out (so it's obviously just thrown to trash later) - check.
He also actually DOES threaten to kill May and / or Shu (do not remmber details) in very gruesome way, just for their failure. We do not know how long they have been serving him at this point, but to me it's pretty obvious contractor - mercanery relationship. Shu and May are stick around with him, because 1. He pays them (probably very good) 2. They fear him (or rather the power his money gives him).
But after the Piccolo saga we have no idea what happens to him and the gang. Or rather, seemingly it's only him Shu and May (we can assume he did hire at least cooks, and other house help back at the times of living in the palace). They all just dissapear... somewhere... and no one heard of them ever since, up until to the point where they manage to gather dragonballs (not shown) and wish for... youth - does that mean he STILL had money and power at that point, or did he just assume he will manage to gather dragonballs again without problems? Dragon seemed to still grant only one wish back when he made it.
Finally we see Pilaf May and Shu completely poor, most likely homeless, searching for ANYTHING of worth, and find the sum of 50 yen expensive. How did he loose all of his money? Where did it go? And the second problem, WHY is May and Shu still there? Shu is a trained Ninja, May is a soldier, they may look weak compared to kid goku, but remember that it's the guy who single handedly defeated strongest military organisation on the world. It's safe to assume that when Hiring his mercaneries, Pilaf bought the best of the best. So now these two strong mercaneries for some unknown reason hang around some pitiful looser who can't fight, can't pay them or even make sure they have enough to eat, and did treat them terribly back in the time he was actually powerful. Yes we do see that they (especially May) do not respect him that much anymore, and he lost some of his mighty acting, but still I do not understand what is going on with them.

Re: Pilaf's gang... What happened?
From what I remember, they were just randomly absent from all of DBZ so I'm betting that they just were under the radar since conflicts were with bigger antagonists and they don't even have a Dragon Radar so it's probably harder for them to look for the Dragon Balls and takes longer too.

The Pilaf Gang most likely continued to try and take over the world but their attempts were so pathetic and that nobody noticed.

Re: Pilaf's gang... What happened?
I recall in Daizenshuu 7, it is explained that Pilaf and his gang still plotted world domination, working in secret. Goku and the others where so busy with other things that they hardly notice or didn't care about Pilaf. No one really remembers Pilaf's gang since neither Bluma, Piccolo and Yamcha didn't bother to point out on those three kids look like Pilaf, Shu and Mai in BOG. They most likely wish themselves as a kids when they try to take over the World after Cell was killed off knowing that they can take over without someone as powerful as Cell getting in the way.
They also appear in the Famicom version of Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. I recall that he didn't had a major role in that game's story.

So do you guys think he used up all of his money on the world domination plans we didn't see?
Also what's your idea on why do May and Shu still follow him around after he lost the money?

It probably has something to do with the fact that they were turned into kids. They can't exactly strike out on their own as soldiers/mercenaries with the bodies of 10-year-olds.
Cool stuff that I upload here because Youtube will copyright claim it: https://vimeo.com/user60967147

I actually love the Pilaf gang. They're funny and add a lot of humour, especially in Battle of Gods.

I just finished watching the original Dragon Ball and I hate them. They brought back King Piccolo from his imprisonment in the box which resulted in the deaths of Krillin, Master Roshi and Chiatzou. The only thing I'm wondering now is when the hell did they get turned into kids?h0kuten wrote:I actually love the Pilaf gang. They're funny and add a lot of humour, especially in Battle of Gods.

I think Super will (hopefully) answer that question once the retelling of BOG gets into full swing in EP 5.SpiritBombTriumphant wrote:I just finished watching the original Dragon Ball and I hate them. Thank you for being the first one here to read more than first sentence of my threadPolyphase Avatron wrote:It probably has something to do with the fact that they were turned into kids. They can't exactly strike out on their own as soldiers/mercenaries with the bodies of 10-year-olds.

Yeah, I guess this is true, though I still think they could have found better things to do than starving near to death by following pilaf. Guess they belive that someon who was awfully rich one time, knows how to rise his funds again? Or maybe, maybe the reason why they are poor, is the fact they are kids now.
Let's assume that Pilaf put up all of his money in the bank account, and tried to retrieve it after becoming a kid - "Yeah, go play somewhere else kid." or "We can't give you money from your dad's account, you need to ask him to withdraw some" then again, I do not really see Pilaf as a banking guy, he looks more like the hidden treasury type to me.
