"Dragon Ball XENOVERSE" Official Discussion Thread
Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE" (PS4/XB1/PS3/360/PC) Official Th
Well I am now finished with the game. Got every trophy except for getting all the Super and Ultimate attacks which I'm not going to bother with as it'd be soul crushing.
Final thoughts on the game
The Good
- Original content. A new story, new characters, new locations. It made it far more interesting than any other DBZ game because of it.
- There were a lot of playable characters and a lot of stages.
- The graphics, the music and the voice acting were all good.
- The whole RPG aspect made it different in a good way. People able to see other players and move around a hub and buy things from shops was sorta fun.
- The character creation gave a lot of options and that was a nice addition.
The Bad
- The sheer amount of stuff left to chance. Am I gonna get the skill I want this time? The Z Soul I need this time? Is the Time Patroller gonna show up? Is he gonna drop the Dragon Ball this time? Is the mentor gonna show up in the hub this time?
- The mentor thing was pointless. A lot of time grinding to earn a few skills in a game that already has hundreds of other skills available.
- I lose a battle, ok retry, why are you putting pack to the start of the cutscenes so I have to skip them again? Just put me back to where the fight starts.
- In a game that introduces new characters like Mira, Towa and Demigra why are none of them playable on launch? Two of them later got added as DLC but Demigra isn't which I don't understand at all.
- Don't let the mission end because an AI character died, I can't help that.
And there's more but that's enough for now. I'd give it a 6.5/10. I look forward to what they come out with next. I think a lot of the problems I have with this game can easily be fixed.
Just give me another original story, more new characters and make them playable from the start, just give me the rewards and don't let it be down to luck, improve the fighting and I'm good.

I don't even know how a Xenoverse sequel would work and still look fresh at the same time. They've covered all the sagas sans the DB era. What else is there left to do besides add more customizations, improve graphics, and other obligatory advancements in features that carry over into the next project?

The movies? AU stories? An adaptation of the DBO storyline? It wouldn't be that difficult to come up with more stuff.Lunatic Fringe wrote:I don't even know how a Xenoverse sequel would work and still look fresh at the same time. They can literally do anything now with 12 universes available. Introduce an all new cast and races, alongside possibly parallel versions of the characters we already know if they don't want to take such a huge risk, and let us fight through the new and old enemies.

The 12 Universes aren't implied to be alternate version of anything thus far, and they could already do that without them since the series is about time travel and alternate timelines.

Id like to see them delve into Makai more than anything. Heroes just gave us a glimpse of what some of it looks like as well as its denizens. Not to mention Towa is Dabra's sister and a supposed "Super Dabra" will soon be showing up in Heroes along with SSJ3 Xeno Trunks. Not to mention the whole Super Mira thing we recently got going on and Xenoverse ending on Towa planning to rebuild him. Would be a waste not to go ahead and use what they already got cooked up.
That is to say we could do with the movie characters instead of starting over with Raditz to Buu again. I myself would prefer Xeno 2 starting on Battle of Gods and work its way through Fukkatsu, original Super content, and finally the Makai stuff we got in Heroes but I guess we need to wait and see.

One of my biggest gripes with Xenoverse was the lack of ability to use the basic attacks of actual characters such as Goku, Cell, Beerus, etc. Especially since we trained under them and were able to do so in Ultimate Tenkaichi. Granted the respective styles of our custom characters were fun but they did get repetitive at times not to mention some super and ultimate attacks work far better than others, which limits the number of abilities used for practicality's sake.. Theres a lot of potential if we are given official character movesets, as it opens hundreds of combo possibilities otherwise impossible in Xenoverse 1.Captain Space wrote:And if they did want to make your character work their way up again, they could use the classic movies or whatever.KentalSSJ6 wrote:Id like to see them delve into Makai more than anything. How would Gigantic Omega work with Goku's basic moves? How would Super Dragon Fist work off the end of Cell's heavy combo? The list goes on and on and really should be explored.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE" (PS4/XB1/PS3/360/PC) Official Th
I got the game three weeks ago. I am now level 92 and have been completed everyone's mentoring bar Frieza, Gotenks and am currently working my way up Elder Kai's good books in hopes of Unlocked Potential.
Overall? Love the game. Obviously. I grinded to level 92, you don't do that if you hate a game. Finally a game that allows Dragonball fans to create their own characters with enough variation to make it worthwhile.
But it's obviously not perfect. The translations are all over the place, sometimes text bursts out the boxes, spelling errors all over the place (Trunks calls Lord Beerus both Bills and Beeurs accidentally) and we get the occasional graphical glitches such as Giant Ape Nappa not actually disappearing after 'dying' or Kamehamehas lasting long after the user and the target have moved on.
Generating one mentor at a time and spawning them randomly over the overworld makes searching for a specific mentor more of a ballsache than is strictly necessary. Like others have said; Dragonball collecting is also rather annoying at times. The RNG also shouldn't play a part on the Ultimate Finish trigger. That's the point of doing the requirements to obtain them.
The story mode is pretty good, but I'm disappointed at some of the 'Time Breaks' being pointless; Who really gives a damn if it's Super Buu that blows the Earth up instead of Kid Buu. What's it even matter?
Hell; Goku doesn't even wish for Buu to come back as a good person thus creating a GENUINE time break with Uub possibly not coming into existence but that's not addressed.
The Broly Vs. Bardock scenario however is incredible because it takes the concept of screwing with events through history and ramps it up to 11. I would of loved to have seen more extreme changes rather than Raditz merely side stepping Gohan. Hopefully something they really have fun with next time.
Smaller niggles include only being allowed one accessory, which is a little hindering, Buu not being a mentor when we have a Majin race and a disappointing cut down on Buu Saga events; no Buu absorbed forms, no Dabura(still my biggest omission annoyance when Towa's so linked to the guy), no Supreme Kai, no SSJ 3 power up for Saiyan characters and I wouldn't have personally minded the Buu saga looks for Krillin and Yamcha either.
But the good easily outweighs the bad; it feels natural, there's so many moves, you can customise your character incredibly well, HUMANS are perfectly usable and there's a great selection of varied mentors and PQs that kept me entertained long after the storymode ended.
I feel like I'm being excessively negative, for a game I enjoyed so much. Maybe I'm preaching to the choir here but this is probably the best Dragonball video game experience I've personally ever had and I really hope they expand on their great ideas(giant bosses; Hildegarne and Fat Janemba anyone?, Multiple playable races; BioAndroid and Kai race next please?) iron out the wrinkles(mentors locations, RNG affecting the Ultimate Finish, More Strike Supers, etc) and fix the sloppy localisation translation and we're golden.
Also can we PLEASE have an official Bardock Bandanna accessory for the next game. To everyone else it looks like I have Gohan's nerd glasses on.

I wouldn't mind if Mira and Towa tried to go even farther back in time to the Dragon Ball era. Maybe this has an effect on your character as well, in the sense of they revert back to a child. Bring in some form of DBO into Xenoverse via having to work up to "adult" status once again.Lunatic Fringe wrote:I don't even know how a Xenoverse sequel would work and still look fresh at the same time. I always thought Xenoverse 2, if there is one, would benefit from the Dragon Ball series. I was kind of upset with Xenoverse didn't touch on it at all, but whatever.
Characters like young Goku, Piccolo Daimao, Tao PaiPai, etc. etc. would be great additions, in my opinion. Coupled with everything from Z, maybe even Super, different universes, movies, etc.
Would also be great if they didn't make the game for the 360 and PS3 as well, as current gen consoles got held back by this.

My biggest gripe is the lack of characters included. No Zarbon or Dodoria but we get Appule and Raspberry? No imperfect cell when there's already a model for him in the game? No 2nd or 3rd form Frieza? Come on, Dimps.
I also thought the story was silly. Whats the point of an "original" story if you're just following the same old story with minor changes and all the best parts cut out? Also, the time patrollers seem to do almost as much damage as the time breakers with all the changes they make, I don't understand how you're fixing anything. My ideal story would be something original, something like DBO thats set in the future.
Despite the fact that I've done nothing but complain about it, I enjoyed the game quite a bit. Looking forward to Xenoverse 2.

I got the impression that time was sort of 'elastic', like if you set things on the right course and act against the original change via further time travel, history will sort of reassert itself and erase the blip. Or something.iop890 wrote:Also, the time patrollers seem to do almost as much damage as the time breakers with all the changes they make, I don't understand how you're fixing anything.

Hmm, now that I think about it, did Goku and the other Z-fighters ever remember the CaC? I mean, did they ever say "Hey, you're that guy that helped us on Namek." or anything like that? Because even if everything else turned out the same, wouldn't the z-fighters knowing that there's some savior that will magically show up every time they're in trouble negatively affect the time-line?Captain Space wrote:I got the impression that time was sort of 'elastic', like if you set things on the right course and act against the original change via further time travel, history will sort of reassert itself and erase the blip. I think they remembered you within the same mission. Like, during your adventures on Namek, after you help them the first time it's like, "Oh, you again," and then once you show up in the android arc it's like, "Ah, who are you?!"iop890 wrote:

...at least, that's how I seem to remember it. It's been a while since I played the story mode, so I may be wrong there.
