Is Beerus' existence really necessary?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

One of the best line from the Funi dub. I gotta admit. For better or for worse.

Yeah you're right. Ever seen storm chasers? Pretty much what you just posted.

You can read what I posted to Doc's comment about it if you want. The only one born was Cell.Created the androids (so 5), imprisoned (okay Buu), well Vegeta was for a short time before he changed his ways. I wouldn't calssify the z-fighters as a threat to the universe considering they are in good relations w/ the Kaioshins.

That in essence makes him the least suitable character for that job as he'd destroy far more planets than actually needed to be destroyed, which would essentially screw up the balance of the universe.

idk. I feel people are jumping the gun with Beerus. He was a really good character in BoG, but in F, his presence was unneeded and a tad bothersome, given how they're forcefully trying to connect him to everything. The food thing has already gotten old too.

I'll wait till I see his portrayal in Super before making judgments about the character himself. >.>

F also badly portrayed Goku and Vegeta, so that's probably more of the film's fault rather than Beerus himself.

That is true.

I'm excited to see how Beerus is portrayed in Super, especially since we're getting a retelling and all. >.>

It was stated that he was necessary, therefore he is necessary.

Also, as someone has already pointed out, he does have a schedule which proves his necessity.

Xenoverse did Beerus really well and made me like him ever more. I'm hoping Super utilizes his character in a similar fashion.

Answering the question: No, Beerus is totally dispensable, he is a God Of Destruction, a title that we can imagine being somewhat serious, interesting and even cloudy...

But no, he came literally from nowhere with a not conving back story, too strong judging that he is a "God" and you know Gods in DB are kinda of a joke if we analyze properly: Kamisama/Dende are a weaklings, Kaios too and Kaioshins that should be a supreme deity and power figure are weak and they didn't showed like someone who could respect, Vegeta didn't give a f*ck for Kaioshin, Goku too and now arises Beerus wanting to be everything that has never been established in the series? Lame

Also I don't like he and Whis being obsessed by food, sounds so annoying and childish... Beerus was unbearable in RoF, can they just enjoy food normally? We don't need another Goku or Mr. Boo that likes eat all the time, also bribe the God Of Destruction with food it's ridiculous but yeah we have to accept this because it's a reflection of the new audience that DB Media wants to achieve nowadays

^None of that makes him unnecessary or dispensable as you put it. People are using their dislike of the character as a basis to say he's disposable, which has me scratching my head. :eh: A guy whose sole reason for existence is to maintain the balance of the universe is not disposable.

And another question I have is why should all Gods be weak just because a few are? That makes zero sense.

Not at all... Why do DB Universe really need a God Of Destruction? I would like to see a good story to explain this in a mature way not because "Hey, I'm a destroyer, I'm like to destroy things with no reason at all, maybe if things piss me off"

Because when you talk about "Gods" you understand that are supreme beings with absolute power and respect... And the past Gods in DB were rarely introduced that way

Because of the way the cycle of rebirth works in Dragon Ball. It's like Buddhism, where everyone gets reincarnated. Without destruction, there will be too many souls alive and not enough to be reborn.

Brely anyone gets reborn. Frieza didn't. Buu only did because Goku aked Yemma to reincarnate him.

One example? Also, Buu got his process expedited because, like you said, Yemma honored Goku's wish. For all we know, Freeza's turn in the cycle was coming up. We don't know how long it usually takes for souls to be reincarnated.

Haha this is a Dragonball religion debate XD. Honestly there's just 1 real reincarnation in dagonball, you can't make that a basis for reincarnation. I see heaven and hell kinda debunking reincarnation unless it's requested.

How death in Dragon Ball basically works is: good souls go to Heaven, really good souls keep their bodies and get to do whatever it is they do in the afterlife, and all bad souls go to Hell to, eventually, be cleansed of all their evil and reincarnated. The reincarnation process takes an unspecified amount of time to complete, while Pure Buu's the one exception (that we know of) with a speedy reincarnation.

Don't good souls get reincarnated as well?

I'm pretty sure the whole thing is based on Buddhism and, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think good souls get reincarnated in it.

I'm fairly certain every soul gets reincarnated, it's just that if you're good but not super good, you get to spend time in Heaven chilling around before you get reincarnated, while the bad souls get tortured before reincarnation.

I think Beerus is needed because the universe needs diversity. He destroys worlds and kais make new ones. ion takes care of making the people I guess. Nothing is concrete on or for the workings of reincarnation in dragonball. You could say every 5th soul gets reincarnated and it'd be as much of a valid statement as "only bad people are reincarnated" because we really don't know. I hope they go into it more in super. Why we have a god of destruction is right up there with questions like who's the God of Dragonball's universe (all 12 universes)...like a kai of kais. and who made the universe(which I ea the ACTUAL definition of universe, not the inaccurate one in Dragonball). If they show use GOD it has to a Roshi look alike or Toriyama-Bot. :3
