That's what I think too. I think Champa considers himself Beerus' rival, but Beerus doesn't return his feelings and instead trolls him and annoys him. Champa will probably try to do something to get Beerus to finally notice him, recounting a past episode, where Beerus made fun of him or something as his motivation for doing so.Doctor. wrote:It's possible that it's Champa having a flashback, though.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I think he's weaker. That's just based on that trailer though, where Champa's antics just make him look inferior in everything in my mind. Also his tail is comically shorter, so that must mean he's weak too!Noah wrote:You guys think that Champa is weaker than Beerus or they're equal?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I think Champa is Beerus' Vegeta, and Beerus trolls him even more than Gokû trolls Vegeta.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
We can only speculate on how powerful Champa really is (and in fact, on who and what he actually is, and just what his relationship with Beerus is), but, regardless of what I think, what I do HOPE is that Beerus is stronger, and I think the picture we were exposed to is enough to postulate that Beerus has some sort of leverage/superiority over Champa, who could be jealous of him and wants to challenge/compete with/get revenge on him.Noah wrote:You guys think that Champa is weaker than Beerus or they're equal?
There's definitely some sort of rivalry/antagonism/tension between the two of them, for a number of possible reasons we already discussed, but, as a Beerus admirer and lover of his character, I do really hope Beerus has the upper hand in terms of power, although I doubt that superiority will be shown in actual battle (as in, I doubt they'll actually fight at any point in the future, although they might have done so in the distant past).
If Champa turns out to be the Hakaishin for the 6th Universe just like Beerus is the Hakaishin for the 7th (and there are good reasons to base this theory upon, as Champa has similar clothing, has similar physical traits and even has an attendant just like Beerus has Whis, and the two share an almost identical resemblance), then it would be possible that they're pretty much equal in terms of power, though, despite the fact that the picture hints otherwise.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I think Bills is stronger. but I don't think Champa is the main villian of universe 6.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Another theory is that they could have been competitors for the position of Hakaishin for the 7th Universe, and after Beerus won, Champa has been plotting some sort of scheme to get revenge on him (pretty much along the lines of Garlic Jr. trying to get revenge on Kami for the latter having been chosen for the position of Guardian of Earth instead of his father).shinmaru wrote:I think Bills is stronger. but I don't think Champa is the main villian of universe 6.
Besides, who said anything about a villain? Even if he is the Hakaishin for the 6th Universe (which is nothing more than a possibility), he certainly can't be deemed "evil". Nor "good", either. Just like Beerus. Not evil, not good, no one's ally, just the Hakaishin.

But it makes sense: He goes to earth, beat every Z fighter, has to return home, then comes back with Champa.Doctor. wrote:It wouldn't make sense for Beerus to beat Goku, return home, and then go to Earth though.

I sincerely hope that FUNimation takes their dub of Super far more seriously, such as their dub of DBZKai. Don't get me wrong, the dubs for the movies are great, but it doesn't feel the same as they used to. I just got out of Resurrection F. And while the dub was good, it feels like they're dubbing these films with the knowledge of the DBZ fanbase and the knowledge of its memes and such, and it almost feels to pander towards those kinds of fans. Honestly, I've been a bit peeved at FUNimation's level of immaturity lately, such as acknowledging and using things such as DBZ Abridged as a marketing standpoint. In my opinion, recognizing these kinds of things is very immature for a bigname company.
But here's hoping the dub of Super is taken more seriously with its script.

^Any specific examples? We know that a few voice actors have acknowledged it, but there haven't been any Abridged references prior to this point, so it seems odd to start throwing them in now.

One of their promotional things for Resurrection F was, "name your favorite character from Dragon Ball Z Abridged, and you could win Free Tickets to the Resurrection F premiere!"Valerius Dover wrote:^Any specific examples? Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I can understand the feeling. I've thought before about many dubs that were much better before they realized how huge and popular is the material they're working on. Once they become aware, the pandering (or we can call it simply external influence) starts affecting both script and acting.FutureGohanSSJ2 wrote:And while the dub was good, it feels like they're dubbing these films with the knowledge of the DBZ fanbase and the knowledge of its memes and such, and it almost feels to pander towards those kinds of fans. That happened with the Dragon Ball dub in my country too, where the way some actors portrayed their roles, and how they were written, changed along the years, the more they interacted with the fanbase. It feels really forced these days, although most people ignore that in the name of nostalgia.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
How were they not taking the dub seriously? They put in a lot of effort and you could tell that everyone involved cared about what they were doing. The writing, direction, and acting on the dub side were all spectacular. I had a blast.FutureGohanSSJ2 wrote:I sincerely hope that FUNimation takes their dub of Super far more seriously, such as their dub of DBZKai. And what's wrong with a company acknowledging fans and what they love? That's a wonderful thing. Do you know how many fandoms have members who wish they were acknowledged while they were ignored to focus on selling toys to younger fans or writing things in a way that's more for children than all ages, despite large adult fanbases?
What we've got with FUNimation right now is heaven compared to what many other fandoms (especially older subsets) get.
Also, one of TFS' members was in Resurrection 'F' (and a few DBZ actors have done small things for DBZ Abridged), so acknowledging it isn't all that surprising.

LOL someone didn't fully read my post. The dub was great. But FUNimation as a company has been using things such as TFS as a marketing standpoint, and recognizing memes and the way they dub their movies now, it's totally noticeable. And quite frankly, that is immature. Lending their voice actors for crappy Death Battle videos? That's immature. Ever since Justin Rojas has taken charge of marketing, FUNimation has entered this world of immaturity that wasn't really there before.Mewzard wrote:How were they not taking the dub seriously? Here's what I think needs to be clarified: While yes, /of course/ they took Resurrection F seriously. Of course they dubbed their hearts out. But there's more the one definition of serious. They took it seriously in the sense of It's A New Dragon Ball Film, but they didn't take it seriously in the sense that, well, I felt like I was being 4th-walled.
But on the other hand, look at DBZKai. That was taken /completely/ seriously. The script was wonderfully written and you were totally immersed in the world. It's just different, at least in my opinion. I hope that the dub for Super is taken more seriously in that sense.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I must admit I cringed when I kept seeing "Revenge takes its final form" repeatedly in the movie trailers. It doesn't bother me too much that, outside of official products, they're lending their actors to other series and stuff, though, what everyone does in their own personal time is their business.

The movie's about to show. I have never seen this many people at a day 2 showing of any movie.
I just realised that I was posting in the wrong thread.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I don't see that as an issue at all. I mean before the new movies and the Xenoverse video game (which is the best selling DBZ game in a while), Dragon Ball was virtually kept afloat by the online community - which consisted of memes, TFS, and bitching about Funimation's home video release.
And I'd rather have a company interact with it's fanbase. I mean the dub isn't suffering. At this point, it's better than the original Japanese version in quality (in my opinion, but that's besides the point). So why do you guys want Funimation to be sterile?
