Freeza or Cooler: whose transformation makes more sense?
Freeza or Cooler: whose transformation makes more sense?
And by that I mean their line of transformations, be it Freeza's 3 stages of suppression and his Golden form, or Cooler's Final form (not counting Meta Cooler). I had a theory that covered Freeza's suppression as putting on a shell that gets deformed the more power he has before it finally breaks (as we saw on the anime) to reveal his True form. It worked because this shell kept his tail cut throughout, and because we saw him mutating on screen, like Cooler did. What would this mean, though? That their True forms are also shells that hide others beyond their knowledge? (like a hidden potential) It can't be because we now have Golden Freeza working along the lines of a Super transformation, so perhaps the theory has to be revised to consider that, instead of just putting on shells for suppression, they can also put others for power. Ultimately, the form that they were born with would be their reference. What do you think?

Re: Freeza or Cooler: whose transformation makes more sense?
Frieza's forms make much more sense. This is a mutant that was born with an unfathomable power. His 4th form is his natural state. Instead of learning how to control that strength and train, he opted to suppress it and maintain a form that's comfortable--also, the easiest alternative for him. This is simply Frieza's nature. Even after he "trains" in F, it's clear his method of training was equivalent to Vegeta and Trunks' during the Cell saga (i.e. exercising to increase power alone), rather than Goku and Gohan's, which was much more efficient. Hence, he still lacks control, he still runs around in his first form, and he still can't sense ki. Frieza is lazy.
Cooler, on the other hand, admits that he does train. That can explain why he's able to maintain his true form without the need of suppressing it with "shells," even though he very likely can if he chose to. That said, if we compare their two additional forms, Cooler's makes no sense. First of all, it looks robotic and gains a face mask (wtf). Secondly, it looks more akin to one of their clans' suppressions than an additional form. Golden Frieza, on the other hand, is Frieza's own version of the SSJ state, and makes subtle changes to his natural state. He also admits that he consciously CHOSE the color, sort of like a chameleon, which makes sense since he is, after all, a lizard-like creature.

Very nice! I oughta appreciate Akira Toriyama's choice to make Golden Freeza resemble his older brother and the Geti-star version, even if non-canon, with a different color. It makes sense that it's no shell, but a new layer of power for him.

Re: Freeza or Cooler: whose transformation makes more sense?
They both pretty much make the same amount of sense to me.
I see Cooler's transformation as basically being the "correct" way to use the full power of their species' true form -- rather than just bulking up and straining yourself like Freeza does in his 100% state, Cooler learned how to control his power better and in the process figured out a method of transforming his body into one that could handle a higher level of power, which let him access his 100% with no strain and then added more power on top of that.
So the "100% power" bulked-up state is like the in-between stages of Super Saiyan -- the "Ascended/Ultra/Grade 2/Grade 3" forms where you gain extra power in exchange for added strain on your body in various ways. Cooler's transformation or "Super Evolution" is kind of like their species' equivalent to Super Saiyan (causes physical changes that allow the body to become more powerful than its normal "100%" would be), but comparing it to the bulked-up 100% state it's a lot more like comparing the "Grade 2/Grade 3" forms to Super Saiyan 2 -- just overall better in every way than the bulked-up forms, because it's the "right way" to tap into and use the same dormant power that the others are trying to access "the wrong way."
And then Golden Freeza, "Ultimate Evolution," is like their species' equivalent to Super Saiyan 3 -- insanely powerful, far beyond even the form that Cooler unlocked, but with an extremely rapid energy drain (even worse than what the bulked-up 100% state came with) that makes it borderline useless in an extended fight and only good for quick bursts of overwhelming power.
Interestingly, if you assume Cooler's form and Freeza's form are different levels in the same "line" of transformations (just like SSj, SSj2, and SSj3 are), it seems like Freeza's species has transformations that work like Super Saiyan in reverse. With Super Saiyan, the first transformation basically just changes your hair and eye color and causes a few very slight physical changes (a little more muscular, hair stands on end) while each transformation after that makes the changes to appearance more extreme --spikier hair and lightning aura, and then huge lightning aura, huge long spiky hair, and no eyebrows. But with Freeza's species' forms, the first level looks bigger, scarier, and more monstrous than your normal state (like SSj3), while the highest level looks pretty much just like your normal state but differently-colored and with a few slight changes here and there (pretty much exactly like Super Saiyan -- if Freeza had hair to begin with, his Golden form would make it spiky for sure.)

I honestly believe Golden Freeza is SSJ3 and Cooler final form is SSJ2. Golden form gives a huge power boost but the results isn't a good as intended. Like SSJ3 it's best in short burst not for long term battles due to stamina. Cooler form while not as strong but produced great effects.

But wasn't it stated that if Freeza had trained more with the form he would have overcome the stamina problem?TheGmGoken wrote:I honestly believe Golden Freeza is SSJ3 and Cooler final form is SSJ2. Re: Freeza or Cooler: whose transformation makes more sense?
Based on how most other transformations in DBZ work, Cooler's makes much more sense than Freeza's downgraded forms.
He doesn't seem the type to train anyway and is probably nearly as lazy as Freeza. The first times we see Cooler he's either lounging in his hover chair or sitting on a throne, and he doesn't even bother getting out of his ship until it's clear his squad couldn't kill Goku on their own.
Cooler doesn't really admit that he trains, though. He just says he can transform one more time than Freeza in the JP version and in the FUNI dub he just says he "found" that form. It could have been as simple as the way Vegeta learned to sense ki.fadeddreams5 wrote:Cooler, on the other hand, admits that he does train.

Ah. That "found" line is what I was referring to. I mean, you can't just find a transformation; chances are he discovered it while training. It makes sense, especially considering he's in full control of his natural state.Captain Sauza wrote:Based on how most other transformations in DBZ work, Cooler's makes much more sense than Freeza's downgraded forms.
