Akira Toriyama "speaks" about the new Dragon quest

Post by Silvor » Wed Dec 20, 2006 11:43 am

Here's a link to a picture and translation of a letter written by Akira Toriyama about the new Dragon quest 9 game for the nintendo DS.
Good to hear he got a little enthusiasm back.
Kinda odd how he refers to himself as old seeing as he's only 55 if i'm correct, not really that old.
Gotta love that smiling Slime :)

Toriyama seems to be such a reclusive guy that I can't help but smile just from hearing from him, even if it's non-Dragonball related. Seeing his latest art work is one thing (i.e. the DB/OP Crossover), but just reading his thoughts... I dunno, I guess it kinda shows how much of a private guy he is, and it's just nice hearing his thoughts now and again.

Lol, at Toriyama referring himself to an 'old man' now.

I can hear Sebastian running to this thread as we speak.. A new Dragon Quest? Sweet. For the DS? Even sweeter. I didn't really have time to play the PS2 one, I was still into RE4(which I haven't finished). But yeah, wasn't there a rpg-like game based off of Dragon Quest for the DS? If that's the case, I don't see why we can't get the game mentioned in this thread.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Yay, DragonQuest for DS. I don't have a PS2, so I was a bit bummed about not being able to get the last one. Something else for we DSers to look forward to.

He's reclusive because of the pressure shounen jump kept putting on him.

Handhelds break too easily for me, and I'm not into the stylus-method of control. I'll pass on this one, though I enjoyed DQVIII (especially the main protagonists' SSJ transformation ;p).

Good to see Toriyama is still working hard, and excited to be doing so. Mike'll probably bust your balls over this thread though, so be prepared >_<;

Actually, I think he's only 51.

Yeah I read/heard about this like a week ago I think it was, or whenever GameTrailers put up the teaser trailer, though recently they put up the Jemp Festa trailer that showed actual footage of it.

So far people seemed to be mixed about DS9, one that it's a core title (#9) being exclusive to a hand-held platform, then there's to move to real-time combat instead of turn-based.

I myself don't care about either, and think the game will be quite fun regardless.

Also as far as Toriyama goes he's been a bit less reclusive lately doing designs for Dragon Quest, Blue Dragon, etc, while also working on the DB/One-Piece crossover.
