Saint Seiya is popular, but Dragonball is WAY more popular worldwide, so...they really made some good things with Saint Seiya Soul of Gold BLURAY version. I hope they can make something similar with Super.

Something like this (see pictures) for SSj\SSj2\SSj3 Goku vs Beerus would be really great! Cross fingers!

^That's some good upgrade.
Since I never cared about tv series blurays, I never saw such difference.
There could still be hope. But right now, I can't believe in anything. When you treat the most famous anime worlwide like shit, you lose my trust.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

If Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold is getting further corrections for home video Dragon Ball Super probably will, too. Who knows if Tate Naoki will do the corrections himself, though.

Difference is, that both Crystal and Saint Seiya, are ONA, online series, while Super airs on TV station.

It's much easier to produce an episode now than 18 years ago. I'm aware of the situation of Japanese companies, but It is still their choice to go for
the money and not quality by producing too much at the same time. Maybe we as fans can correct some bad animations.
Here is one frame I did. took me like 2 hours to complete. And maybe I'll do these two

The art lines are wobbly and shading is shit because my drawing skills are basic and I'm not used to doing things with a tablet

You forgot his symbol on his dogi.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

Given the studios themselves barely make any money one would have to be an idiot or rich to give up money.

If it's hardly worth it, I wonder why they don't quit already... I mean, if Toei already stretches itself too thin and it doesn't pay off what is there for them, as a company, to continue?

Animation is profitable for everyone but the majority of animators. Animators stick with it because it is their hobby.

When a studio becomes as large as Toei they need to continue making series to make money and employ their staff. This is why they're always starting new series and why they have a new series being added to their line-up in October, it keeps their animators working and their regular clients and investors happy. Animation is just one thing those clients and investors dabble in, too. Producers have to work hard to keep their relationships with clients strong or else it means less money. Animation as an industry currently only works because animators like to animate and don't want to see those jobs go overseas even more then they already have.

The problem is that the production committees rarely allow for productions to run on a lengthier schedule. This is why the industry is suffering right now the most, everybody has to scramble to finish an episode four or five weeks after it is decided it is going to air while also competing with other studios for the best freelance talent. Thanks to the small size of Japan the industry can move quickly, just about everyone is all in the same area, so it's easier to pick up drawings from animators.

Tate isn't in trouble because of how Episode 5's being received, is he? It looks like they're blaming outsourcing, but he was still the director for the episode and I realize the real culprit is a lack of skilled staff and time, but does anything think these reactions (the Yahoo Japan article) will affect who gets assigned what for future episodes?

Tate was the animation supervisor, Iwai Takao was the episode director. With any luck Tate won't be blamed for the episode's failure, given he isn't the reason the episode looks so bad.

That's a relief. ^^

I really like Tate's work on One Piece, and what he did on the DB Jump 08 special; I was worried he'd get blamed for episode 5.

Did the Yahoo Japan article mention about someone being in trouble because of the look of Dragon Ball Super #5?

I doubt anybody would be mentioned by name. Toei Animation won't toss anybody under the bus publically, they'll just blame the industry conditions and pirating.

I could see Toshiyuki Kan'no returning to the the franchise and be animation supervisor for Dragon Ball Super. He's not had any work since Garo: Hanoo no Kokuin #24. He would be an excellent addition to the anime staff for Dragon Ball Super.

There's a new Garo series and film in the works, so who knows if he will be working on that or not. Even if he isn't the character designer again he might wind up doing work as an animation supervisor there.

I don't know how much Toei spends or earns for one episode, but I Don't think you're an idiot for investing a little more for a better product. I think it will do the company good in a long term. And if they don't want to invest money they should focus on animating the important action scenes first. at leat that's how I think about it. And episode 5 wasn't that bad besides the fight we all waited for :( lets hope we get amazing fights next time.

The vast majority of the folks who watch Dragon Ball Super will never watch an episode more than once, let alone buy it on home video. Not only will the series be too long for a casual viewer to collect it will be unable to sustain high production values for even a fan to want to collect for very long. It makes sense that the production begins to suffer.

I'm dumb and forgot to check to see if Ootsuka Ken talked about what he did for Episode #5.
Ootsuka also mentions something about the 'animation collapse' that occurred during the episode.

So there really was an incident that resulted in episode 5 being the way it was?
That's interesting.

Maybe they'll be able to learn from whatever happened and going forward figure out ways to adapt to whatever it was or figure out how to avoid this kind of result?
