i just hope things get better when we start getting in to new content!
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Yeah, it was like 15%-20% of the episode that looked bad, mostly after Goku turned SSJ. While that part looked REALLY bad, at the same time, the rest of the episode shows it wasn't supposed to look like that. So i'm safely assuming they'll fix it for disc releases, although like other people said, that didn't stop all the complaining about Sailor Moon, as the damage was done.Doctor. wrote:To be fair, the SS2 fight had fluid scenes and the SS3 part of the fight was very fluid the whole way through. The animation being stiff can only apply to the SS part of the fight and some parts of the SS2 portion.
I agree some people overreacted about this, but i think those are mostly casual fans not used to watch many anime, thus unaware that shit happens. Or they just don't like Dragon Ball and took the chance to crap on it.
I seriously doubt we'll get another "accident" in the same scale, but other poor episodes are to be expected, especially on the tv broadcast.
Btw, someone mentioned Attack on Titan. AoT had a chaotic production and entire action scenes were replaced by stills in the tv version, until the video releases came out. Maybe Toei would've been smarter doing that, just implying the action, it would be less ugly.
Still, Sailor Moon was a web animation, i think there's a smaller sense of responsibility compared to a show airing on a big tv network, watched by millions and with precious breaks for sponsors to advertise every week. Even if Japanese viewers and news outlets ignored the problem, Toei is obviously thinking of selling the show worldwide one day, so it's not like they can completely ignore what foreign viewers think.VegettoEX wrote:Sailormoon Crystal had a simultaneous airing in multiple countries around the world with multiple licensees in the mix, everything contributing to a trail of money (regardless of its size) making its way back to the original license holders.Basaku wrote:Endless SM Crystal bitching actually resulted in improved animation quality/consistiency in second story arc, so ye. Especially when DB crap animation is already making the news lol
Unless you live in Japan and are paying your cable bill there, you are stealing Dragon Ball Super, and therefore your opinion is 100% irrelevant to Toei. They made their own decision to not treat this new show as something worthy of a global rollout, and so there would be no reason for them to care at all right now anything other than what their presumably-gigantic license fee is and when it will be met by someone.

I don't want to derail too much here but I was not aware of that for AoT as I've only seen the dubs. It looks great from what I've seen so hopefully DB can get similar treatment.Araki wrote:Btw, someone mentioned Attack on Titan. The keypoint is that it was a web animation. It isn't anymore, I mean it is, as it was still shown in nicovideo, but it also aired on TV, so it is both now. Yet they barely fixed those mistakes and aired the Blu-Ray version on TV without fixing major screw-ups, lolAraki wrote:

No, because it is Toei. Toei will only care, if kids (or better say their parents) stop buying merchandise, and this may result in them stopping releasing any new Dragon Ball content, period. Or at least anime series/movies.Noah wrote:So... You guys think TOEI will give a f*ck about fans complaining worldwide on the animation of the previous episode?
Well, it improved. But who says that it was because of complaints?Basaku wrote:Endless SM Crystal bitching actually resulted in improved animation quality/consistiency in second story arc, so ye. I want Shueisha to put out some merch for Super. I'll buy cute BOG arc stuff. I actually thought they'd have stuff out by now. Wishful thinking I guess.

There's so much of these out there. In sites like myanimelist http://myanimelist.net/anime/30694/Dragon_Ball_Super People are talking the change to bury this, with reviews that aren't even accuracy. Most of them don't even know that there will be a new arc about Universe 6 and are judging the entire show after 5 episodes when its far from over.Araki wrote: I agree some people overreacted about this, but i think those are mostly casual fans not used to watch many anime, thus unaware that shit happens. Reviews shouldn't even be allowed when the show just started, in the first place. Oh well, its the internet.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Yeah, MAL always gets ridiculous and premature reviews like that.
What people can do is voting them as 'not helpful", this way early reviews tend to be buried as the show goes on.
Anyway, that's why they need to fix these things, the "disc" version is the one that's going to be airing on tvs everywhere, and you don't wanna sell a bad product.
I think the problem with Crystal is that there was TOO MUCH to be corrected. At least the broadcast is getting a way more presentable version.

Naturally, the dub is the "fixed" version. I remember still shots of faces became entirely new seconds of action sequences when the blu-ray came out. When the series was airing in Japan, the studio was desperately looking for animators even online, that's how troubled it was. But they covered their shortcomings much better than Toei.DBZMerciter2005 wrote:I don't want to derail too much here but I was not aware of that for AoT as I've only seen the dubs. I know Crystal is getting a rerun on tv right now, but the fact they're airing the blu-ray edition reinforces the point - Toei probably takes a tv timeslot a lot more seriously than a web show, and they should. Hell, they could air the worst version and force people to go and buy their discs, after all.Mystic Tien wrote:The keypoint is that it was a web animation. It aint like anyone forced Toei to start Super with retelling of existing stuuff. They essentially aked for early reviews like thisFortuneSSJ wrote:There's so much of these out there. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Just read they're probably going to announce a new One Piece movie next week. Wound salt, but I guess it's to be expected. They haven't had a movie since 2012, so it's been a weirdly long amount of time since they've had one.
It makes me so sad though, because while I like One Piece, I don't like it enough at the expense of seeing Super suffer.

It's crazy how TOEI doesn't seem to care at all about the fanbase outside of Japan. Half of the gross for their latest DB film comes from abroad!

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It actually might work out better for us, presumably they'll fix issues with episode 5 (maybe future episodes too) for the home release and when it does get licensed we'll be subject to those improvements and this could be potentially why TOEI didn't allow licenses Super for any simulcasts.saunasolmu wrote:It's crazy how TOEI doesn't seem to care at all about the fanbase outside of Japan. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
They don't care about the fanbase outside of Japan because they are not the main target audience for the series. They made shows and movies for the people in their home country. No different how shows and movies are made in the US. Toei does not get every penny from the overseas market. Just like how Hollywood and TV shows don't get every penny from other countries. Other people in the world most likely love western shows like Steven Universe, but the creators of the show are mostly focusing on the audience in their home country (USA).saunasolmu wrote:It's crazy how TOEI doesn't seem to care at all about the fanbase outside of Japan. Toei does not make Dragon Ball for Amercians. It's like saying that Toei makes Super Sentai to be adapted into Power Rangers.

Of course, considering what the international licensing revenue is (hint: Dragon Ball is their #1 property), they absolutely should be taking the foreign audience into consideration when creating this stuff.Hellspawn28 wrote:Toei does not make Dragon Ball for Amercians. Depends on what you're talking about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Pacific Rim and the latest Transformers live or die on their international reception, China being a particularly big factor?Hellspawn28 wrote: Just like how Hollywood and TV shows don't get every penny from other countries. Yeah, actually the studios don't get every penny from the American box office either. And Hollywood is taking the world scene more and more seriously. Or else, why would they send their stars to promote the major releases in many markets?Captain Space wrote:Depends on what you're talking about. Just to give two very recent examples of how important the foreign box office is: Pixels had a scene removed so the movie could make money in China. And Pixar's Inside Out had many versions of some scenes for different parts of the world. It's undeniable how they do have in mind foreign audiences.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
From what I saw of the combined preview, regular weekly One Piece episodes look kinda average; it's their specials like the Sabo one that get the time/resources.
I don't think they're overly invested in international markets is all. One Piece is a juggernaut at home compared to worldwide. DB, Saint Seiya, and Sailor Moon are the internationally popular ones.
Look how much love Toei's Precure gets at home. It's barely known overseas.
I think Toei is either unaware of foreign markets or just don't think of them as profitable as they are.

Honestly if they're so desperate for money, just put a paypal button on their website, Id gladly give 100 bucks as would many others. I dont want any merchandise, just dont fuck up the animation, and use budget as an excuse.

Yeah, but still they don't get every money back. Golden Compass made a lot of money overseas, but was still view as a failure despite making back it's budget overseas. Movies like Golden Compass, The Green Hornet, Spawn, Terminator: Salvation, Godzilla 1998, Prince of Persia and Dragon Ball Evolution didn't get sequels because they did not meet expectations at the United States box office. Pacific Rim is lucky enough to get a sequel.Captain Space wrote:Depends on what you're talking about. I'm wondering what Saturday's episode will look like along with the rest of the month's in the wake of episode 5.
I think by the end of the month we'll have a better idea of where things stand with battle animation.
