Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
For me, it's the characters. They may not be deep, but they're incredibly lovable and charming. I'd be lying if I said I loved every single character, but I really do enjoy a large part of the cast.
And of course, I have to mention the action. The crazy, over-the-top fight scenes are very entertaining, especially with Toriyama's excellent fight choreography.

Over-the-top action + lovable and memorable characters.
Oh, and the art. Not from the modern shit though.

I agree with you; the characters. Though, I also really like the settings. Especially early on.
EDIT: I forgot to mention the Kikuchi score. His music just fits Dragon Ball so well. I just can't watch the original anime without it.

*The Villains. I'd say it has the best cast of Villains in any fictional series, rivaled perhaps only by Spider-Man
*The large number of English dubs (both good and bad)
*The music (Kikuchi, Bruce Faulconer, Shuki Levy etc)

Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
- The art style of men and clothing in the manga and select moments from the anime. The females in Toriyama's style are nowhere near as appealing to me but there are plenty of other sources for that.
- The transformations. When I was young they felt powerful and so strong. Now I watch and reminisce to get the same feeling.
- The colors are beautiful. Although I would have preferred SSJ to be anything but blonde -- it would help emphasize the alien bit -- I think the colors just seem to mix and match together so well.
- The creation of parody series and especially TFS's DBZ:A. I still get excited to see their new episodes. I think it helps take something that I loved as a kid and make it more appropriate for adults. Without DBZ this would not exist and I'd be out great a source of entertainment.

Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
The world, Dragon World is a really interesting place. I wish we could see WAY more of it. Yeah we saw good chunks of it in Dragon Ball but things have changed and advanced since then so I'm curious to see it all over again.
The characters! For the most part the majority of the cast are timeless characters. Some have become rather cliche or the originator for a cliche *cough*Vegeta*cough* but they're all still pretty good!
Fighting fighting and more fighting! Did we forget to mention FIGHTING?! CAUSE HERE'S SOME MORE FIGHTING! Really it's Dragon Ball's big staple and it's always fun to go back and watch fights.
The music! All of it! Even the music no body likes!
The ridiculous amount of one upping eachother that happens between some characters, specially super saiayns.

Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
I guess since I listen to at least one Dragon Ball-related piece of music every day, I would have to say my favorite aspect of the production is the musical score and audio design. I love Kikuchi and Yamamoto. In fact, I prefer many of Yamamoto's arrangements over the original pieces he "borrowed" from. Oh well. I even like a few Faulconer Productions' pieces. Not very many, but a few.
Second would be the art. The art style is what drew me to Dragon Ball in the first place. In fact, Toriyama's art along with certain other comics and cartoons, led me to go down the career path of animation. Creating art is not just a job; it's a lifestyle. I'd say Dragon Ball was a pretty significant driving force in my professional life.
Third, the characters. Do I need to say more? The characters are the reason we all come back time and time again.
I also love the action and fights. Though, I don think a few other titles have surpassed DBZ in the action/combat realm of choreography since its heyday.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
The fact that it's an entire world driven by pure whimsy and pastiche, but that still manages to enthrall with character interactions and its presentation of the passage of time (I really have to stand by that last bit; I don't think I'd still be nearly as into Dragon Ball if its time frame were static). It's exciting and funny and unpretentious and generally just so much better than it has any right to be.
I second (or third or fourth) the notion that the Kikuchi scores gives the series a lot of flavor as well.
Unlike others, Toriyama's art, while I admire it, isn't a major factor for me. It fits the series well, but this isn't a series I'd be drawn to just for the visual style (of course his design sensibilities are so ingrained into it that it's not like I'm imagining it with any other look).

Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
Well above everything, I'd have to say Cell. So much potential that's essentially wasted, it's a shame. Beyond that, I really like the 80s charm the first half of the manga has.
Most Dragon Ball fans are incapable of making a logically sound argument.
Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
The series as a whole feels like martial arts Looney Tunes....on steroids. It has a perfect blend of fantasy and sci-fi. The characters, while not terribly deep, have enough to them for me to enjoy seeing them interact with each other.
Re: Your favorite things about the Dragon Ball franchise?
1. Characters
2. The Dragon World(DB Universe)
3. Action
4. Humor
5. Plot
All in that order. I truly believe that the characters run the show and if you replaced them with more bland and boring characters the series would bomb, even with its action and humor left intact. Well maybe not COMPLETELY bomb, but it wouldn't be the international hit today to say the least. So my answer is the characters if it wasn't obvious already.
