Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I've never even heard of some of these animes. Very surprised they're consistently beating One Piece.
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
English-speaking fandom tends to only focus on titles aimed at their interests, rather than national legacy series like Doraemon or Sazae-san.DragonHermit wrote:I've never even heard of some of these animes. Very surprised they're consistently beating One Piece.

DVR ratings for the week of July 27th - August 2nd are out and Super (episode 4) kept scoring high.
Top recorded:
1 - Yokai Watch
2 - Doraemon
3 - DB Super
4 - One Piece
5 - Conan
6 - Arslan Senki
7 - Gintama
8 - Laplace
9 - Ushio to Tora
10 - Ore Monogatari
Comparing these numbers with the live viewership we can conclude Super was probably the #3 most watched anime of the week, behind Doraemon and OP.
It' s interesting that when the live ratings are higher, the DVR scores a bit lower, all things considered the viewership has been fairly consistent.

Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Doraemon finally came out in the US a year ago and I believe season two is currently airing on Disney XD. There's a chance that you might see some ads or merchandise for it in the US. Saze-san is Japan's longest running TV series on the air since 1969 and is the longest animated show running on TV right in history IIRC. You can say it's Japan equivalent to the Simpsons.DragonHermit wrote:I've never even heard of some of these animes. Very surprised they're consistently beating One Piece.

Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
I used to watch Doraemon, Conan, Saint Seya as a kid (not in English), but that Sae Zan or whatever, I haven't even heard as a name. Some of these names are weird, like Laplace? What is this, calc class
Rehash of BoG gets more recordings than OP. Good sign. Universe 6 will shoot ratings through the roof. Maybe even RoF saga.Araki wrote: 1 - Yokai Watch

Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
It'll be interesting to see how the ratings will be after ep5.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
With the last episode being heavily disliked and the next one not being an action episode I expect it'll get worse ratings for the next episode.

Woah! Higher than One Piece!Araki wrote:http://www.tvguide.or.jp/ranking/timerr ... index.html

Way to go Super.
I guess this means a lot of Super's audience prefers to sleep in on Sundays.
On hiatus.

Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
After what happened, this is the first week that I stopped caring about Super anime. I will zapping some scenes to see how animations/plot are going and that's it.Bullza wrote:With the last episode being heavily disliked and the next one not being an action episode I expect it'll get worse ratings for the next episode.
Time to accumulate some episodes and then watch everything later.
Which makes sense when talking about the old school fanbase. Right now, I'm not young enough to wake up early just to see some show that I like.Chuquita wrote: I guess this means a lot of Super's audience prefers to sleep in on Sundays.
Even though its Dragon Ball, I rather get my sleep and then watch it later.
And its not the first time we beat One Piece in DVR ratings. I think we still didn't lose to it.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Not all kids shows are made to sell toys. Kids shows like Uncle Grandpa, Regular show, Clarence, Sanjay and Craig and Planet Sheen don't have toys for them and I doubt they where made to sell toys.TripleRach wrote: Yeah, it's best to think of kids shows in general as toy commercials, and not just in Japan. Some are more blatant than others (Yu-Gi-Oh, Kamen Rider, Transformers), but it's always something the executives look for.

Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Do we have the DVR ratings for every episode?
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
If someone can provide the TV and DVR ratings for each week I'll put it in the OP and make sure to keep it up to date for a quick reference.
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
The TV ratings are already on the episode guide of the website.
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
Yeah, i've been posting them since the first episode, i believe.Doctor. wrote:Do we have the DVR ratings for every episode?
But they take a while longer, the numbers for the 5th episode aren't out yet.
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
It would honestly amuse me if Super only lasts around 64 episodes like GT did. I don't know, I have trouble seeing a 100+ episode series in this day and age.

Cooking Idol I! My! Mine!(2009)
Hana Kappa(2010)
Puchimas!! Petit Petit Idolmaster(2014)
Dbz Kai(2009)
I do agree that people attention spans are probably shorter these days than before. So maybe Super will pull at least 99. Then again DBZ KAI did it. So why not Super?
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
All of the Pokemon shows are over one hundred episodes each. If the production committee can attribute Dragon Ball Super to a rise or sustaining of profits then it will continue or a new series will immediately take its place.

HxH made it to 140 episodes.
Re: Dragon Ball Super TV Ratings Discussion Thread
The 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter is a special, weird little case. It was entirely funded by NTV and when it began growing too violent for Sunday mornings it was moved to a late-night slot. It definitely feels like one of the producers at NTV was hell-bent on this being their baby. I've never seen a Japanese cartoon get that much love from its television network. Then again, NTV outright owns Madhouse and is even trying to buy a second animation studio, so they seem very set on being a big name in animation.DragonHermit wrote:HxH made it to 140 episodes.

Now that you mention it, I remember it getting very gory late in the series. There was quite a contrast with the show initially.JulieYBM wrote:The 2011 version of Hunter x Hunter is a special, weird little case.
