The Season 1 FAQ revealed.
Here it is for all our eyes to see. I must say, from what I've read and understanding the whole cropping issue we'd get from lens zooming they'd have to do if not in wide-screen, this puts a decent amount of relief on my mind. Though of course some of you guys will still have issues with this to no end. It does say the release has been extended to 6 discs so the quality won't be shitty, and surprise surprise, that was the remastering studio's idea. I'm definitely still buying this, minuscule amount of top and bottom sacrificed from a lens-zoomed version or not. In a sense, FUNi weren't lying, we actually are getting more footage than if they lens-zoomed to avoid damaged looks of the film (though yeah, it's the negligible sides of the screen). But whatever, 75% of you guys can still "boycott" it if you want, I just want the series in a fantastic package for a good deal, and this is probably the most perfected way I'll get Steve "Daimao" Simmons' subtitled translation.
Thoughts?

Interesting. The demonstrationy-picture-link thing was enlightening if you ask me.

- EDIT - Even though I don't really care, I'm a bit discouraged at what most posters on the FUNi board think of us over here on DaizEX. *Checks own butt for sticks* They're probably just jealous, tho.

I think it would be best to wait someone from this board to do a review (Tanooki). Then, we could see everything in actual motion and not-stills. I'm still shocked Steve Simmons is actually in this forum. Seriously.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Not to be a dick, but plenty of posts both here and on AnimeonDVD have shot this FAQ all to hell. It's insulting to the intelligence of anyone who is familiar with overscan and the like. I'll post something more detailed in a few.

Not really, unless FUNi is doing it as 4:3 letterbox as opposed to 16:9 anamorphic.Duo wrote:It's still the best product with Daimao's Subs available, plus with widescreen the subs will be on a black background, making them even easier to read than FUNi's excellent font and color choice for their subtitles.

Yep. Those picture comparisons (as well as Mr. Simmons' screencaps on the forums here) were a real help for the whole widescreen debate crap going on. Though I guess this means my "FUNi drawing their own stuff to add to the sides to make it fit widescreen format" theory is out the window.SSj Kaboom wrote:Interesting. Yep again. We'll never know everything until one of us gets our grubby little fanboy hands on this. The FAQ seemed to answer some questions while still leaving us in the dark for a good amount of stuff.Mr. Piccolo wrote:I think it would be best to wait someone from this board to do a review (Tanooki). Example:
For the first time, all 291 episodes of Dragon Ball Z will be presented consistently, meaning, we have brought back the FUNimation voice actors to the studio to record new lines throughout the Dragon Ball Z series.
You'd think that means that the dub lines will be made more accurate, but we're never actually told that. We just know that the script will have some line changes

Eh, I'll probably just get one or two Season Sets once FUNi's released every one of 'em...

Come on, thats so effin awesome. I know its not a big deal to some people but I just wanna know what lines there gonna be changing. I want to know! This reminds me of when the Kenzanban (spelling?) was released and they changed a few things here and there.meaning, we have brought back the FUNimation voice actors to the studio to record new lines throughout the Dragon Ball Z series

Are you sure about that FunHack, I'll prove you wrong...Most of the forum posts with screen captures, and even the ones we initially provided, do not take into account a 4:3 televisions overscan. Ripping a screen capture from a computer software DVD player will not provide a true representation/comparison of the television viewing experience.

To my perspective watching the Dragon Box DVD's on my computer, gives me the full television expirience and even more than watching it on a television screen.

Wait, didn't you just prove them right?Gokuden553 wrote:Are you sure about that FunHack, I'll prove you wrong...Most of the forum posts with screen captures, and even the ones we initially provided, do not take into account a 4:3 televisions overscan. I think what the FAQ is trying to say is that if you're watching it on a TV, the whole overscan thing removes a portion of the screen on all sides. If you were to watch it on a computer, the overscanning isn't a problem. Hence, if you were to get a screencap from your computer, then (as they said) "[r]ipping a screen capture from a computer software DVD player will not provide a true representation/comparison of the television viewing experience."
