"Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Yea I know those years sucked just something cool i wished would happen but I could see how that would start an ugly trend again. Is the 16:9 really all that bad for this arc? Does it cut important details like Funi's bad crops or is it hardly noticable? How is the 16:9 cropping job for the first phase of kai?

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
For anyone here who has watched the Boo saga for Kai in Japanese already. I have been told that Boo saga removes about 23 or so filler episodes. But exactly how much filler was removed *during* the episodes that are intact? Are they faster paced like the previous arcs?
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
A film or TV series should always be viewed in its native resolution. Be that 4:3, 16:9, etc. Stretching or squashing something to fill the screen just isn't worth it.Tobi555 wrote:Yea I know those years sucked just something cool i wished would happen but I could see how that would start an ugly trend again. Also, would love to see the Buu Saga of Kai soon. I need me some new fangled dubbing.

Toie did an overall good job with the cropping for both phases unlike Funi's which is a complete disaster from beginning to end.Tobi555 wrote: Is the 16:9 really all that bad for this arc ?

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Kara Edwards announced on her Twitter account on Monday that she gave birth to a baby boy on July 31. She named her son Michael.
I never knew Kara Edwards was pregnant in the first place. Could this one of the reasons why the production of the FUNi dub of Kai 2.0 was a little slow in production?

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Probably not. Remember, she recorded, what little lines she had for Resurrection 'F'. They probably brought her in for those, and her Buu Kai lines, if there are any left for her. It's possible she could just be done already, even before she had this baby.

Fandom post forums is what I usually check to follow anime releases in NA: http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/for ... ustry-News the folks there are very good at reporting news on anime releases, no matter how small or big it is.ShadowDude112 wrote:Where are these being posted? There is also FUNi's blog: http://www.funimation.com/blog/
And Shop: http://shop.funimation.com/Shop/Shop_Fi ... 5&stype=23 (If anything is new is updated it is almost immediately reported in the Fandom Post forums)
Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Personally, I think FUNi know they've dropped the ball on Kai big time, and they figure they may as well wait until next year now. I would expect the announcement to be not too far after "F" is released on home video.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Pardon my french, but I think the whole situation with FUNi releasing Kai 2.0 has just been total bullshit. I mean, I've already come to terms that Kai 2.0 will most likely be released next year, but quite frankly, it shouldn't have even reached that situation in the first place.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Just wondering, what are the most significant filler scenes left intact in Kai's Buu arc?
From reading the weekly episode threads, it seems some of the scenes with the villains from hell watching the final fight were left in, but what else? Has anyone put together a list?

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Consider this possibility: Funimation hasn't release Kai yet because of contracts with Toei, reverse importation, and supply of materials.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
oh my gosh it's kaiserneko!!!! .0. Hmmm I guess I didn't really consider that all to much. What do you mean supply of materials doesn't funimation have the materials already if the VA's have said that they've recorded. If it was reverse importation then why hasn't it been announced for the november lineup cuz the last set for japan release in september.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
It's possible FUNimation was only given SD masters so far, delivered digital files to work from and not any home video masters at all, there were encoding errors in what they DID receive, etc. Any combination of these could happen and HAVE happened with other shows.Tobi555 wrote: What do you mean supply of materials doesn't funimation have the materials already if the VA's have said that they've recorded.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
Does this mean that we may get the japanese version still? or are we pretty much guaranteed the international version. What are SD masters?

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
We'll be getting the international version with the longer first batch of episodes.
SD masters... as in standard definition masters, as opposed to proper high definition masters. Sometimes to get production rolling, the companies will not send the highest-quality version available. That lets you start recording, which you can then layer on top of the higher-quality masters when they eventually arrive.

Re: Funimation Buu release guess?
At other times it's also not unusual, at least for Funimation, to use third party materials in preparation for the process that VegettoEX described above. A specific example is where Chris Sabat admitted to having to ask around and track down a raw copy of Battle of Gods for use in voice sessions with other actors before they were able to receive the proper materials from Toei. IIRC photos that were shown from inside the recording booths for the extended cut of BoG even showed the specific TV labels of where it was recorded from after people took notice of it.
I honestly would not be surprised if they were still doing this even today, especially with their roll outs of broadcast dubbing.
