DBZ Level Set Revival? [Denied]

Post by Haseowolf » Tue Aug 18, 2015 2:26 pm

So this tweet exchange was just brought to light by WTK:

Is this possible? Is this actually happening?

For those interested, it's the 4th tweet down: https://twitter.com/FUNimation/with_replies

The level sets arguably had the best color of any Z release from FUNi, I'm eagerly awaiting more news on this.

I don't know if I would ever be able to buy the entire 291 episode series again, or at least anytime soon, especially with Kai making a pretty large portion of the show relatively obsolete, but if they do continue these sets, I would at least buy the next two, 2.1 and 2.2, which according to the back of those that were released, brings us perfectly to episode 67. From there, I can easily buy the singles to watch the show in 4:3 if my Dragon Boxes get messed-up or something.

Negative thought:
Funimation is planning a repackaging of the cropped BDs with their Twitter person unaware of the Level set differences.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

Yeah, I wouldn't jump to any kind of conclusions here. Too many cases of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. And by that I mean "what is that product oh it must be this thing and not this random canceled obscure thing that only you crazy people know about".

I'll sell my season sets if these come out again. All but one of my season sets are still wrapped up in brand new condition. Though I don't see this happening ever.

I have a hunch they confused it with Kai as one of the Kai releases had a similar orange and Goku scheme.

If this does turn out to just be Funi's Twitter account being confused on what release is what, while it would be sad, it would be quite funny that even they can't keep their re-re-re-releases straight.

I'm not banking on this actually happening, but I'll still hold out hope. Worst case scenario and the Level Sets don't continue then at least I still have all my Dragon Boxes.

Not getting my hopes up, this could just be a PR goof, but...

C'mon, FUNimation, why not? You already have scanned HD 4:3 masters just sitting in a vault/on a harddrive somewhere. I don't see any downside to putting out a barebones release of them to satisfy the fans who've held out for a 4:3 Blu-Ray. Make it print-on-demand if you have to. :D

Psst... Broadcast-quality Japanese audio as well?

What would make me purchase Z again all the way through... this would. But if they are to re-release the series, I hope they give it better packaging. Honestly not a fan of the orange brick reclycled design that the Level Sets had. More episodes per set would be nice too...it's probably wishful thinking.

Edit: The timing of this (if it happens to be true) would be a bit off, wouldn't it? I thought we would have got the Buu Saga of Kai, if anything.

I won't get my hopes up, but it's possible FUNi saw the backlash from it being revealed that they ignored that survey and are doing this. I could be just wishfully hoping they don't do anything boneheaded again though.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

Considering how they cancelled the Levels so early on due to high production costs, I really don't see a revival happening. Though I would love one as I'd love to own DragonBall on Blu-ray (I refuse to buy the cropped ones).

I really hope this is real because I'd love to have DBZ on Blu-Ray in 4:3

IF this is actually happening, does anyone see FUNimation announcing these at a convention? Generally I think of con announcements as big surprise reveals, but lately it seems FUNi's con announcements aren't exciting or providing the surprises people expect, not that the 35th DBZ release is anything surprising to most anime fans.

So, what big cons this year are there that FUNi has left?

According to their blog post here's where they're at the rest of the year:

Animefest
NDK
DragonCon
Anime Weekend Atlanta
New York ComiCon
Comikaze
YoumaCon
AnimeNebraskon
Nekocon

Any forum peeps attending any of the above?

Although I've never attended it, I've heard that AWA is pretty darn good.

I'm pretty sure it was a mistake  . Is the tweet even available anymore besides in the screenshot? I don't see it in their replies on their page or on the original picture post anymore. :( :( :(

It seems they deleted it. Either it was a mistake or they revealed information they weren't supposed to.

Looks like the tweet is indeed gone. While I still think it's unlikely they will resume this release, this isn't a definitive thing for either camp. This could be a case of their social media person tweeting it and then being told that it was a big secret and not to share the information at the time. EDIT: Sayo-chan beat me.

Man, I wish this was happening or, at the very least, a clear statement from FUNi.

This would be beyond amazing, but I won't get my hopes up until we have something a bit more concrete. I just think it's a goof.
