Is the "Vejituh" pronounciation wrong?
We all know that Vegeta's name is pronounced "Vejituh" in the Big Green dub, but is that technically wrong? I mean, the name "Vegeta" comes from "vegetable", which is kinda sorta pronounced "Vejituh-ble", so is the Vejituh thing really wrong?

There should be a witty quote or something down here. I'm just not imaginative enough to come up with anything.

I'm under the impression it's the middle of his name that's supposed to be drawn out, since it's got the ー in there. So pronounced more like "Vejiita"/"Vegeeta". Spelling it "Vegeta" preserves the pun though.
On hiatus.

It is. The name is spelled "Bejiita" and is a pun on vegetable, which is spelled "bejitaburu".Chuquita wrote:I'm under the impression it's the middle of his name that's supposed to be drawn out, since it's got the ー in there.
I kinda like the "Vegita" spelling for that reason.

I don't mind it. If the Japanese can take "vegetable" and change it to Bejitaburu, we should be able to change it back to whatever we want.

I too go with the Vegita spelling.
The katakana used is only really ever for transliterating ve, and there's a different one for be, but they're pronounced the same way.
the proper way to pronounce it is Ve-geet-tah. the stress is on the t, not the i.

You'd emphasize the tail-end of the word, as it is a Japanese word--'Veh-jee-TUH', basically... but that sounds pretty much the same as 'Vuh-JEE-tuh' as is usually pronounced. The Big Green dub says it like 'Veh-jit-UH' which just sounds goofy.

For reference, Vegeta is written ベジータ in Japanese. That's ベ (be), ジー (jī), and タ (ta). The E in BE (VE) is short and the I in JI is long.

Re: Is the "Vejituh" pronounciation wrong?
It's probably not the most correct pronounce, but not the worse pronounciation too.
If was "VeJItuh" with emphasys in the "JI" it would probably more correct. Also, they called him "vejituh" cause it was based in the french pronounce "Vejetuh".
But I think the most close/correct pronounciation was "Vegeeta/Vejita". They used that pronounce in only a few dubs. I remember now the english dubs(Ocean and Funi), brazilian portuguese, thai and valencian catalan. 5 dubs that used this pronounciation(I'm considering accents' differences).

Ah, thank you guys for clearing that up.
SaintEvolution, the thing about other dubs was actually what made me wonder in the first place. The Danish dub, for example, pronounced it "Vejituh", but I didn't know that there were so many dubs that pronounced it like that.

Well, in most of european dubs they have a similar pronounce with it because they used the french version, that sounds more like "Vejetuh".DragonDuck wrote:Ah, thank you guys for clearing that up.

But at least in the "Vejituh" pronounciation from Big Green dub it was one of the most correct pronounciations when we compare it with other european dubs. In the galician dub for example, they say "Vexeta". Or in the european portuguese, that they say something like "V'xeta", and in the european spanish one, that they say "Veheta"(it's "Vejeta", but in spanish, the "J" sounds like "H" or "R").
