Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.
So, I was browsing on YouTube the other day and I watched the "Kyle's Mom's a Bitch" video from the South Park Movie. I hadn't watched that for years, so it was cool to hear it again. Anyway, the video had lyrics, and I couldn't believe it, there was a Dragon Ball reference in it . Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQV22nJLEAM. (About 10 seconds in).
Also, I was watching GT the other night, and somebody said something like "There in sector 7G", reference to The Simpsons? I'm not sure if that was said in the Japanese version, might just of been in FUNimation's. Still thought it was pretty cool though.
Has anyone else noticed any Dragon Ball references in other shows?
In the Fairly Oddparents movie Channel Chasers there are many Dragon Ball references in one of the shows in the movie called Maho Mushi. You can see caricatures of Goku, Vegeta & Oozaru, and during Timmy & Vicky's showdown when they get in the show Timmy is wearing a white version of Goku's Gi, and has Krillin's eys, and Vicky is dressed up like Piccolo wearing a black cape & pants designed like his.
An episode of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy comes to mind. The episode is called "Chicken Ball Z" and pretty much everything in it is a parody of DBZ.

I remember watching that a few years back, but I don't remember the Dragon Ball references. I'll have to watch it again.
Sorry, I didn't realise there were that many threads about this subject.

If my mind is well, in the japanese dub of this song, Cartman also says "kamehameha" in the lyrics.
Also, in the 14th episode of Space Dandy, there is a reference too. Dandy and his crew are metting the alternative counterparts of them, and one of the other Dandys is like an weird fusion of Goku, Michael Jackson and Jojo's Bizarre Adventures.
There's even almost entire episodes where they parody it. They always go that far and use the same soundtracks. And then the studio have problems with the copyright. The main character already said this year that Toei Animation is gonna kill them.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Andrew talks about playing Dragon Ball Z in season 7 of Buffy.
Andrew: "You don't want me coming along because you think I'm evil."
Vi: "He doesn't seem evil, exacty"
Buffy: "He's not evil. But when he gets close to it, he picks up its flavor like a mushroom or something."
Andrew: "But I'm reformed. I'm like Vegeta on Dragonball Z. I use to be a pure Saiyan, and now I fight on the side of Goku!"
Interestingly, Andrew puts the emphasis on the second syllable in Goku.

Disney Movie Big Hero 6 where the main character Hiro Hamada is a half-Japanese, half-Caucasian kid, has a Dragon Ball reference.
Seriously, I'm so happy for how legendary this series became. As far I know, its the second anime to get a easter egg in a Disney Movie. First, it was Totoro from Studio Ghibli in Toy Story 3.

The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy did an awesome parody of Dragon Ball Z which was appropriately called Chicken Ball Z.

I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.
