I hope they release all 13 movies (15 if you count the TV Specials) in a single set and they don't split them up. I know it's wishful thinking but they'd might as well include the Dragonball movies and the GT Special as well. Only time will tell. :/

Did they show any DB (as in without the Z) in that video? Or are you referring to DBZ as Dragon Ball? Ugh, why did Toei have to change the name of the series with that dang Z?!

Anyways, it looks like we may be getting a some remastered movies as well, so that's cool. But I do agree that FUNi's doing one heck of a job dancing around the whole cropping issue :?...
If you look closely, you can see a shot of Lunch with Tenshinhan on a computer. I'd assume that they are re-mastering it as well...why the hell wouldn't they?
That scene was from an early episode of Dragon Ball Z. Lunch, Tenshinhan, and Chaozu had been living together in the mountains.

God damn I'm an idiot...I knew that there was one episode of DBZ with her...why the hell didn't I think of it? :x

But logically thinking, they would be really retarted not to release Dragon Ball after DBZ is done. I mean, all the Japanese music is already there, it's just a matter of re-mastering. :D

That is exactly why I have never purchased any DBZ DVD's. Because I knew at one point FUNI would go back and release them cleaned up and in sets that matched the others. We all knew they would release the movies in the same "remastered" way that these episodes are going to be put out. I am suprised anyone bought this "first strike" set.

Four episodes, actually...well, six if you count Goku's dream and the Genki Dama scene.

Then won't you look quite the fool when they release yet another set after you purchase this one? :P

I highly doubt they will. What would they market it as? HD-DVD/BLU-RAY?

Hmm..Since they seem to be remastering the movies, how do you think they'll compare to the Dragon Box version in terms of color and quality?

(I'm just a little on edge about this because I just ordered the movie Dragon Box from Amazon Japan. Either way, it should still be worth it..right?)

Well, I do think an HD release is inevitable, but that wouldn't be for a very long time. I was just joking around with you. :)

I'd imagine the video would be pretty much the same for both releases, but I don't really know FUNi's source for the movies so it's hard to say. It's the audio on the Dragon Boxes where you'll really hear the difference. Don't you worry, just blast those movies at full volume, and you'll know that it was definately worth it! Not to mention all the extras you'll be getting.

The remastering process in HD at 1080p is definately FUNi lookin to the future... so yes, I'd say an HD release is inevitable!

It's kind of bizzare. The series works best in 4:3, yet they are using widescreen. The movies could potentially be fullscreen, but they are using widescreen as well.

Having the movies at 16:9 isn't such a big deal because that's how they were meant to be seen. I may just buy the movie box set, but I'm still undecided on the Vegeta Saga.

After looking at the trailer I noticed that movie 8 was used when they pointed out the extra footage on the sides (an example were you wouldn't lose footage from the top or bottom). I assume they included movie footage so that the loss from top and bottom of the series wouldn't stand out as much. It also claims that it is in an 'unaltered state'.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...
Adding footage to the sides and trimming the top and bottom is NOT 'unaltered'

I can't view this either on IE or Firefox. All I can see is the Quicktime logo.
Same here... I tried looking into the source of the page ans just downloading the mov files directly, but apparently isn't there or the server is down?
For those of you who are having trouble seeing this trailer. Here are a few screen shots...

I know it's been said before, but getting more picture on the side isn't a fair tradeoff for losing picture on the top and bottom. Aren't characters are generally centered on the screen? It would mean losing part of them in exchange for getting a little more of the backgrounds on the sides. See the bottom picture of Tanooki's post as an example - more background, but the top of Broli's head is cropped.

You're right, I forgot about that. So the movies I suppose will end up similar to how they were shown theatrically, but the series is another thing.

Heres the last of the images I will post from this trailer. Please don't compare these images with previous releases for image quality, being there from a Quicktime video, it wouldn't be fair. :? Still, they look pretty cool...

Are you comparing these screenshots to the stuff in your DVDs? Just curious.
I think it looks all right.

I think it's quite ironic..

Just to compare colors, here is the same frame taken from the DragonBox movies - movie 12 ...

FUNI's Image

DragonBox - Movie 12

It might just be me (or the compression of the video image from FUNI), but the colors are just slightly off. I'm looking at the blue in Goten's shirt arm as well as the orange dot to the left of Trunks' head. Although, I may be splitting hairs.

That said, I should say they are a major improvement over what they have had in the past.
