Are there any dub pieces that you prefer over the original?

I generally prefer the dub composers over Kikuchi (although i'd rather listen to GT with Tokunaga instead of Menza). Here's one scene where i prefer the dub music

The Japanese score for this scene has NO music and makes an enthralling moment feel dull and lifeless. I don't know how anyone could honestly prefer sterile silence for these kind of scenes.

Kikuchi did actually compose a music cue for this scene, but it went unused - and this is one case where I don't blame them, as I think the music intended was altogether too cheerful to completely fall in line with the gloomy backdrop. I'd link to it but that would just result in Kikuchi-bashing.

I don't think leaving this particular scene silent is that bad of a decision, we westerners seem a bit spoiled when it comes to having music in scenes that appear to call for it. It would have benefited from some scoring to be certain, but a lack of music doesn't completely ruin this scene. Now, if you were talking about the speculative yanking of "Anticipation" from Movie 2, then I'd agree with you, because that cue does fit the scene some of us think it was meant for.

And I believe that the unused movie 3 cue would have been for the 00:42:49-00:43:42 mark. Would I be right about that?

I just played that song for that scene, and it syncs perfectly with the action.

Would that unused piece happen to be the first cue that appears in the "Reunion! Tenkaichi Budokai" track from the BGM Collection? It starts off with upbeat Goku/action material and then segues into Piccolo's theme, followed by a rendition of Tullece's motif for when they have their little bout. It then concludes with the beginning theme once the scene goes back to Goku finishing his opponents off. It seems to match perfectly when one tries to synch it up to the footage, and the use of Tullece's material pretty much seals it.

Edit: And now I just remembered that it was also included in that extended Movie 3 suite...

Even though one can understand why they omitted it from the final film, it still feels like a shame to remove a cue like that. It's a case of some decent thematic writing all packed in a very short piece and exemplifies why the 3rd DBZ film had one of the best scores of the lot.

That cue was used for the first time in 2008's Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return!!

While it's nice to hear it finally being used after all that time, it's still a bit of a loss due to not having it been utilized in its original context. The thematic material featured in the piece doesn't really have much relevance outside of that particular scene it was originally composed for, so it loses some of its effect.

Yes, it's M1018. (My personal title, though I don't think I've used it on the site yet, is "Spectator Tullece".)

And now I just remembered that it was also included in that extended Movie 3 suite...

And on the 5-disc set, as the BGM Collection reuses a lot of tracks as-is from the former's discs 4 and 5. Despite the fact that it was cut from the movie, and never shows up in the TV series, M1018 is on every BGM CD that features Movie 3 music. I guess they really wanted to get their mileage out of it...

That was my speculation as well. My written notes say: "beginning with the wide shot after the henchmen surround Goku."

For the original DB? No way. Kikuchi is perfect there especially in early DB.
