No I'm comparing it to those RAW episodes of Japanese DBZ that were on youtube.com, I remember seeing episode 2 and the sky looked so clear and blue not to mention raditz hair had a blueish colour and everything else looked so much better than what that image showed.Eclipse wrote: Are you comparing these screenshots to the stuff in your DVDs? YouTube? That's even worse. The colors do look a bit similar, although the FUNi image looks a bit darker than the Dragon Box one (You can barely tell what color Goten's shirt sleeve is!). I dunno if it's one of the things done during their remastering, of it's just the compression, but yeah.It might just be me (or the compression of the video image from FUNI), but the colors are just slightly off. I'm looking at the blue in Goten's shirt arm as well as the orange dot to the left of Trunks' head. Although, I may be splitting hairs.
That said, I should say they are a major improvement over what they have had in the past.
Although the colors do look real similar. Awesome

Yeah, FUNI's look just a bit darker... that said, it might just be that one tape or episode from the open sequence. I looked at movie 8's opening sequence to compare the image where Goku's hair is standing up yellow, and the darker version this time is the DragonBox. So the brightness level may vary slightly from episode to episode.Eclipse wrote:The colors do look a bit similar, although the FUNi image looks a bit darker than the Dragon Box one (You can barely tell what color Goten's shirt sleeve is!). Well I couldn't find any proof to show you what episode I saw, since it looks like Funimation removed them eventhough their quality lacks what the uploaders showed.
Anyways here's a better example, these two video's below show you what episode Funimation was at it's best in quality which matches the Japanese one perfectly... see below.
Original Japanese version
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVckuF7E_mw
Funimations Japanese version at it's best
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m07G4clWbYs
As you can see the sky looks clear on both versions so why can't Funimation fix up their contrast of the sky in their Remastered versions?

Yeah, let someone with the DragonBox episodes post images. I don't have the early DBZ eps. I'm sure someone can grab a screen from where Raditz' tail is hitting Kuririn across the face. The episodes that are rampant online do have the saturation increased and its tough to really compare.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I think it looks fine. Also, comparing from Youtube isnt such a good idea.

Gokuden553, I'm sure you enjoy talking and engaging in conversation and that's great, it really is, but I realy need to ask you to STOP DOING VIDEO/COLOUR COMPARISONS WHEN YOU DONT HAVE THE PROPER MEANS TO DO SO. I mean you're comparing Youtube FFS, stop trying to impress us and just sit back and go "ooo wow, something something something".Gokuden553 wrote:again

I haven't yet been able to see it because of the server issues, but I have a hunch that this is what was shown at Wizard World back in November.Kendamu wrote:http://www.dragonballz.com/HD_trailer/tech_trailer.htm
Anyone seen this technobabble video yet? Supposedly they're not saturating this time.
Makes me wonder about that tech FAQ ehere they had the Kaio and Gregory images. Are those really images from the new set? Have they lied to us again?
Is this the real thing this time?

Concerning the colors, FUNimation's colors are indeed wrong, but they are 100% correct in presenting them as such. As the video suggests, they are not altering the colors or saturation level of their source material. This is the right thing to do and again I applaud them for this, it's definately a step in the right direction. However, keep in mind that FUNi is clearly working from an older source, and so any color distortion is due to the dated materials and not FUNimation's remastering process.
(Note: This is assuming we are to believe that they are not making changes...although there's a chance they might have altered the colors to reduce grain, who knows.)
Looking back at their source film...

Overlayed with the original photography, we can see color discrepancies...

The shot in question from their new trailer...

The original photography once again...

I couldn't catch the exact frame on WinDVD, so don't bother comparing the amount of image on the sides, 'cause it won't be accurate. But for checking colors, it's good enough.

I'm only showing you what colour the sky should be. Any master of an anime series wouldn't have a dark blue sky, unless it was dark all the time to begin with... I know Funimation could do much better than that to ajust the contrast of the sky. Try to think back of their Cell Games episodes which had nicely done colours and an accurate blue sky.

Interestingly enough, the skin color of Kuririn is off as well.DBW wrote:The shot in question from their new trailer...

Kuririn's skin colour has always been off in the Pioneer version and Ultimate Uncut and now the remastered episodes, same goes for Radditz aswell.ect5150 wrote:Interestingly enough, the skin color of Kuririn is off as well.DBW wrote:The shot in question from their new trailer...

Oh by the way the reason why DBW couldn't capture the same frame is because it's been added into it compared to the original, since in the original it pans away from radditz and follows Kuririn across the screen.

I'm not sure what you mean by "added into it". I couldn't capture the frame because WinDVD only grabs every 5th frame or so when you do a frame-by-frame. If I ripped the footage then Id be able to catch the correct frame. But you're right about the pan, if I caught the correct image Radditz's face probably would have been cut in half.Gokuden553 wrote:Oh by the way the reason why DBW couldn't capture the same frame is because it's been added into it compared to the original, since in the original it pans away from radditz and follows Kuririn across the screen.

Dang... Movie 8 looks looks much better without the dark tint, and so far the cropping doesnt seem to be effecting the action scene as much as everyone was worrying about.
