Definitely looking forward to Hellsing #6 at Youmacon.
Another enjoyable episode this time around. Though, once again, Vegeta's arrogance is about to get the best of him. Also, the fact that Cell uses his old voice when talking out of his ass...

The only problem is:
This was an issue with the original broadcast of DBZ, too.
Dr. Gero and his revenge come out of nowhere, and it's hard to get people to really feel why he's a threat or how the Red Ribbon army is part of the overall DB mythology.
Kaiser, is there any possibility there's going to be a flashback, even a tiny 20 second one, that would give a new audience an understanding of Gero? A quick summary of the Red Ribbon saga?
It would really benefit the series when it's being viewed as a whole.
As it stands, with the people I'm showing DBA to, I'll have to break immersion and show them a few old DB episodes with the Red Ribbon so they understand, which would sort of ruin the pacing and enjoyment.
IIRC, there's a moment in the pre cell games filler wherein Roshi exposition dumps Goku's exploits in Dragonball. That would work for this, if TFS elects to include it

I think the exact opposite, not because DBZ Abridged is bad, because it's a hilarious and very well done parody, but because it's created a lot of (IMHO) idiots on YouTube who think that intentional parodies of dubs have better voices or quality than actual dubs. I have the same thoughts on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged by Martin Billany, though.

Since that's subjective, you are basically calling them idiots for having an opinion you don't agree with. Just saying...
If we're talking OG DBZ Season 3 dub... I think there might be the smallest argument to be made. (DISCLAIMER: We make absolutely no comparison of ourselves with the now 15+ veterans in the industry.)

You really took that out of context, but okay.
I'm saying I feel like they're idiots for acting like the people who inspired the TFS actors to do those voices are somehow worse than the people who created them: of course it's subjective, just like saying DBZ Abridged is good in the first place, or DB itself is good, or various other things etc. That's just me, of course, you don't have to agree- again, it's just my opinion. It's been bothering me for a while, unpopular as it may be.

I'm not comparing your work to that in the least, just want to clarify that: those were FUNimation actors and crew doing horrible imitations of the Ocean actors and crew, from the script writing to the voice acting to the music etc. (Faulconer on record in an interview said he was told to imitate the Levy Score at the time), etc. I'm comparing to the modern day Kai dub, if it makes sense.

How is someone an idiot for making a comparative assessment of the quality of two things? The fact that one is inspired by the other is entirely irrelevant to a comparison of quality. Making a comparison and concluding one to be of inferior quality isn't inherently disrespectful to it, or the individuals who put the effort in to make it.
I understand rolling one's eyes over the trendy, exaggerated "lol Funi dub sux!" and "lol TFS fucken ROXORZ!" memes taken in tandem; but making the comparison between what we got from both things is an entirely valid one to make, obnoxious people aside.

But someone can legitimately think that they are worse. Being official and/or the original doesn't automatically mean that they will be better. If someone is saying that the official dub sucks just because other people are saying it, or just because they are trolling, or some other ill-conceived reason like that, sure, but other than that...
KaiserNeko wrote:Well, one of the titles for the next episode we're throwing around is literally, "Her".
I could be stating the obvious here, but is that a reference to Spike Jonze's film "Her"?
Obviously. Ironically, Scarlett Johansson would be a great Android 18.
Well, I did say that I could have been stating the obvious in my post. Scarlett Johansson would be an alright 18. I think Rhonda Rousey would be pretty good if her acting was better. She once said that she'd love to play as the character in a live-action movie.

How so, though? If those voices weren't created by the actors and seiyu, the TFS actors would've either never had a basis for their own work or had an inspiration from others: heck, I'm sure MasakoX takes influence from Nozawa Nozawa and dub actor Peter Kelamis. The TFS crew are all very talented individuals, and I think it's wonderful they offer an abridged parody series for our amusement online for free, but I feel some of the online fandom is disrespectful to the people who inspired them: it's the same for Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged, Hellsing Abridged, etc. I don't mind if they find it inferior as much as the trendy part you mentioned: it's the obnoxious people that irritate me, namely some of the YouTube community.

I get your point, but a lot of people sadly do fall into the "other people are saying it," "trolling," or "other ill-conceived reason" portion of the fanbase. I don't mind if they prefer it as much as them saying "lol TFS is the best MUFFIN BUTTON B*TCH YOU JUST JEALOUS OF MY SUPER SAIYAN SWAGGER" "lol FUNi Kai dub sucks FUNi dub sucks Ocean dub sucks etc."
It's the obnoxious people who annoy me, if it makes sense.
Are we too old to enjoy new Dragon Ball movies/series?

Guys, I'm going to be straight with you. If you feel the show has gotten 'silly' ... it hasn't. You're just 'too old for this shit'. Seriously, 95% of the people in those boards do not fit the target demographic of the show, so don't expect the show to be 'everything you hoped for'. I'm referring to the people here who expect Super to be rich with dark moments, serious storytelling, meaningful characters etc etc. It won't. It's a show for kids. A show for kids being kids. Everyone in those boards has a manchild in him/her, clamoring to get out, and that's fine. But having unrealistic expectations (such as believing the show grew up alongside you) is naïve at best. Honestly, do you take seriously a story where the supposed God of Destruction halts his urges to blow up stuff in order to eat ice cream sundae? That's the show's silliness at full force, take it for what it is. The show hasn't matured one bit, so don't expect it too. Again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying *that* is DB and always will be.
Just watched it and I thought it was pretty funny, good work guys also I don't read YouTube comments but were people in the comments confused about the Trunks hair color thing ?

Because when you're analyzing the quality of something, the goal is to analyze the quality. Not whether it was inspired or not. Saying Goku is a better martial artist than Kame Sennin, despite Kame Sennin having inspired him, isn't disrespectful to Kame Sennin. It's a subjective assessment of quality. Saying "you shouldn't say Goku is better, Kame Sennin inspired him!" seems incredibly out of place in the conversation, and feels like a superfluous defense of Kame Sennin's character, when no attack on his character is even being made.

We've made it a running theme in this series that Kuririn either intentionally or unintentionally hides his power level to avoid detection. He's the most common person in the show to utilize that strategy. It isn't really insulting him, it's Vegeta relating the act of doing so with the character who does it the most.
We've also been pretty proactive about trying to do more with Kuririn's character than making him a punching bag.
Also, you can have productive criticism without acting like that.
