I don't understand why are some folks criticize the Funi dub for cussing, but didn't mind the cussing in the original dub. I know things are different in Japan, but still, didn't they ask for script consistency? So...wazzupwidat? It's not like the dub did say "fuck", "dickhead", "shit", and every other cuss under the sun.

Dragon Ball doesn't really have anything worse than "damn" or "bastard." There might be a "shit" or two thrown in there.

I've never seen anyone criticize the Funimation dub for cursing anyway.

I've seen some criticism in the Kai and video games section regarding that, even some on the youtube comments long ago. Saw one comment saying how Funimation's trying to be edgy and used the "Japan's different" excuse.

Cursing in Japan is different, but I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Do you have any examples of what you are talking about?

The series has it's serious moments, but the series was never dark and edgy. I like the series when it's both campy and serious at the time. One reason why I love ROF because the movie contain plenty of humor while having a generally serious overall storyline. I hope the U6 saga and future storylines will be just like that.

The words "Damn" and "Bastard" in dub Kai were criticized by some folks. Again, I know things are different in Japan, even those words don't have much impact. What bothers me the most is them asking for script consistency and then threw it right back Toei's face. They want the dub script to match the drama of the JP dub, they got it.

Note that the criticism of the Kai dub regarding the cuss words were from AMERICAN FANS! I dunno if the Japanese ones criticized the dub for the exact same thing.

I don't mind cusses. I like that Goku called Frieza a bastard in Kai. I just don't like the use of slang Goku's been using lately, like " she's gonna be pissed" or "hang over." Just seems weird to me coming from Goku. =P

They do cursing in the Japanese version of the show too. I don't see the issue with cursing in the series as long if they don't over do it. It's not like we have Vegeta dropping the N word or Krillin dropping F bombs.

I thought the Japanese language doesn't explicitly have cursing... it just being disrespectful or insulting to someone else, or being frustrated or something.

Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans remake was serious and it came out in 2010. Episode of Bardock was mostly seriously, I recall it didn't had much gags to it.

This is true.

They have words and phrases that would be considered very offensive/rude, of course, but they're not necessarily 1:1 with their English translations and there isn't a concept of "swear/cuss words" the way there is in English.

In fact, I think that's a pretty unique/bizarre concept among all languages?

Dragon Ball does use some language where the offensiveness equivalent probably wouldn't fly on children's TV in the U.S., but that's a difference in cultural standards and not unique to the series.

Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans is exactly that: a remake of something made during DBZ's prime. I don't count it.

Episode of Bardock is the sequel to the second darkest story in the series... and we get little pokemon creatures. Bardock himself is ruthless, but he instantly butters up to his new, cute alien comrades. The entire setting felt so ****ing off. It's like transporting Bardock to Barney's world and trying to make a "serious" plot out of it. TFS handled this story beautifully. lol.

That is not entirely true when you are referring to the Episode of Bardock's manga, since the OVA mainly focus on continuing after the destruction of the planet. Bardock's attitude in the manga matches what Toriyama spoke of him, as having "a little measure of humanity and a calm judgement" and even matches Dragon Ball Minus, as being somewhat "softer" than his version in the TV Special (which was also shown in the OVA anime). But then, we have that "I don't care" attitude towards the race, but even so...

The aliens on Planet Plant look like anything else you would see from Toriyama or Toei. I see no issues of them being cute.
