Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
This week can't pass fast enough. Its been long (since episode 2), I've been this excited for an new episode.
Not only looks awesome by the preview, but we will also end the first retelling and get some new stuff again.
Also, the second ending is getting closer and I hope its as great as the first one.
We may finally know about Champa/Whis Waifu voice actors in the next weeks too. October is gonna be cool!

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I've emailed the site before. Not sure if it's because it didn't go through, but I never got a response.Shoot them a PM. >.>

I'm right there with you. It will even be worse, if they leave us with a mouth-watering cliffhanger in the next episode. Hoping they make moderate/heavy chances to FnF.FortuneSSJ wrote:This week can't pass fast enough. Its been long (since episode 2), I've been this excited for an new episode.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Because it was Piccolo driving a car. He was completely in-character, and that makes it funny. It just annoys me when i see people who are so against that, but were not such critics of old stuff like Piccolo playing volleyball or trying to get a driver's license.
I don't get the same vibe when I watch Vegeta dancing or randomly turning into a chef. He was so into both activities; it's cringe-inducing. The Vegeta I'm familiar with would be twitching and blushing beyond belief as he danced, and later having a monologue about his pride, cursing Beerus. The chef thing... was just random as ****.
My favorite DBZ fan-manga is "Who Wants to be a Super Hero?" Michsi did a great job accurately portraying Piccolo and Vegeta as they reluctantly don the role of Saiyaman. That's funny to me.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It didn't come out of nowhere. The idea came from Beerus enjoying the takoyaki that he ate before. The idea didn't pop into his mind randomly like you're saying.fadeddreams5 wrote:It's just something I don't expect from Vegeta, at all. Not so much knowing how to cook, but randomly dropping into the ocean, putting on a chef uniform, and showing off his cooking skills is something that completely falls outside his usual pattern of behavior, so I just see it as... out of character. =P
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I wonder if the adaption of Freeza in Hell will be more like the anime version rather than what we saw in the movie.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I found Bingo cringe-inducing. I didn't find the chef thing cringe-inducing. I think it is because it made sense: Beerus likes food, he'll make food -- he will do whatever it takes to get the job done which is very Vegeta. Plus, I think it helps that by all accounts it looked like good food and he executed it well -- he had nothing to be ashamed of other than being put in a servile role (thus only affecting the pride thing for the sake of others).fadeddreams5 wrote: I don't get the same vibe when I watch Vegeta dancing or randomly turning into a chef. Dancing is not particularly servile, it came out of the blue, and bad dancing is just embarrassing. I thought that was OOC in a way cooking wasn't.

It was also funny because it continued Vegeta's private war against the octopus

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I'm fairly certain that's the point; THE point. Within Toriyama's vision for the script, Vegeta did the only thing he could think of to try and appease Beerus. The fact that he wasn't good at it is part of what made it such a great moment too. Vegeta was willing to humiliate himself to that level, to sacrifice his pride to do something he wasn't good at for his friends, family and even the rest of the planet. It's a great character growth moment for him.irreality wrote:Dancing is not particularly servile, it came out of the blue, and bad dancing is just embarrassing.
His cooking? All he's really doing in unveiling a hidden talent. Yes, the end result is funny for a couple of reasons, but it has absolutely nowhere near the same impact.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
But, see, there's a world of difference between that and the two Vegeta situations. The humor in the former case is derived from Piccolo -- a stoic, self-serious type hailing from another world -- being plopped into a comic and totally foreign context for various contrapuntal effects. With the bingo-dance and cooking scenes, it's not clashing context but Vegeta's own break from character that constitutes the meat of the comic intent. He's supposed to be out-of-character. It's supposed to make you uncomfortable, just as it does Vegeta.fadeddreams5 wrote:Because it was Piccolo driving a car. He was completely in-character, and that makes it funny.
Now, of course, you're well at liberty to say you don't think they were particularly funny bits, but to point out that Vegeta's acting out-of-character when that is exactly the point seems like a misguided complaint.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
But at the same time an argument can be made that it's out of character because why would Vegeta choose to dance and dance that particular way, to boot? It's completely out of character for him to dance like he did. I'm not saying he wouldn't throw his pride away to save the Earth, he would, I'm saying that it's highly unlikely that some kind of dance would pop up to his head at that point in time. Chef Vegeta was not only foreshadowed, but it makes sense from an in-universe perspective.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I'm fairly certain that's the point; THE point. Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Although what you are saying might be factually true, I know I'm not a fan of second hand embarrassment and it is just not my thing -- personal preference. I felt Super was a good compromise, even if a less impactful character moment.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:I'm fairly certain that's the point; THE point. That said, I still think Bingo dance wouldn't be the only thing that would jump to Vegeta's head to appease Beerus -- that is why I felt it was a bit OOC. It seems out of left field. How does Bingo imply dancing and how would he know it would entertain Beerus?

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The only thing foreshadowed is Vegeta's revenge on the octopus. Him actually being able to cook said octopus comes out of left field just as much as his dancing. The latter of them even has a better explanation IMO. Vegeta taking the time to learn how to cook Earth food seems unlikely, especially given Capsule Corp has employees for that and he can barely stand to do normal stuff like go to a resort for half a day. His dancing though? He grew up surrounded by the Ginyus; that's what he knew.Doctor. wrote:But at the same time an argument can be made that it's out of character because why would Vegeta choose to dance and dance that particular way, to boot? This kinda plays off my above comment. It's Vegeta. He spent most of his time as a genocidal space pirate, and doesn't seem to get out much even now that he has a family. You can make an argument that dancing might not be the first thing that came to mind, but it may very well be the only thing he thought of that can count as "entertainment" in his Saiyan!Vegeta!mind, which basically only revolves around combat. Afterall, he grew up around the Ginyus, and how many dances did they have?irreality wrote:That said, I still think Bingo dance wouldn't be the only thing that would jump to Vegeta's head to appease Beerus -- that is why I felt it was a bit OOC. He clearly didn't know if it would do the job for Beerus though, but he was desperate. That exactly why he had the look on his face that he did once the dance was over.

I don't know, 3 Saiyans wandering around space mostly alone -- my mind is that they would experiment with cooking on their off time, not try to memorize dances of their rivals.TheDevilsCorpse wrote: This kinda plays off my above comment. I can't see Bulma as the domestic goddess -- she works full time. I'm sure there were occasions with hungry saiyan kids sitting around the house and food needs to be made and Mrs. Briefs isn't around. You figure out how to cook just to shut them up. Also, it isn't like Takoyaki is hard to make provided you have a takoyaki pan. It is essentially pancake batter with pieces of octopus.

This being the source of his resorting to dancing is now part of my headcanon.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:He grew up surrounded by the Ginyus; that's what he knew.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Who said anything of trying to memorize the Ginyu dances? I don't actively try to memorize the dances I see on TV events or anything, but if the fate of the world was depending on me, I could probably mimic them decently enough. I also sincerely imagine their "cooking" while out on assignment was the same as Goku's; kill something and then put it over a fire, or just eat it raw like he apparently did the aliens in his debut. While at one of Freeza's bases, he probably just ate whatever was given to him in a cafeteria.irreality wrote:I don't know, 3 Saiyans wandering around space mostly alone -- my mind is that they would experiment with cooking on their off time, not try to memorize dances of their rivals.

Who said anything about Bluma being a domestic goddess? It's Capsule Corp. They have secretaries, security guards, other scientists, etc, which means they probably have a chef on hand to feed everyone too. Vegeta likely has absolutely zero need to learn how to cook, other than Super script saying he did.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
If you guys asked Toriyama, he would probably say Bulma made Vegeta attend cooking and dance classes with her.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
That would be the most Blooma thing ever.UpFromTheSkies wrote:If you guys asked Toriyama, he would probably say Bulma made Vegeta attend cooking and dance classes with her.
