Dragon Ball Telepathy

Post by dbzfan7 » Sat Oct 03, 2015 1:23 pm

This is an ability we've seen used quite a bit. Mainly by Kaio, but also used by the likes of Babidi and Kaioshin. Though this ability has also been used by the likes of Goku, Piccolo, and I think Krillin maybe. I find this an interesting ability that's not just something the gods have, but something it seems anyone can possibly use. This ability I think coulda been explored more and maybe expanded upon. Goku and even Roshi have been able to read minds. That'd be a pretty helpful ability I'd think if they used it more. I know scenario's that would make it hard to utilize, but telepathy at least in Dragon Ball was a strange ability that's not just a physical or a pew pew attack. Of course it'd be silly if we tried to compare them to true telepath's, but the small amount of telepathy shown I think coulda been something more useful perhaps.

True, they could have at least done something like all keep in telepathic contact to coordinate a large battle together (would have really helped against Dr. Gero for instance).

Didn't Piccolo use telepathy to contact Gohan, and have him help get Gero off him?

I mean being in constant telepathic contact the whole time, with the entire team.

Yeah I thought as a baseline that could have been done. Kinda like how in Young Justice they did that instead of having Comm Links. Reading minds can also lead to predicting your opponents moves easier. A more defensive type of skill. I think that'd be nice to train to achieve. To keep your mind at ease so you can read into your opponent.

This ability and magic is pretty underrated in the series.Piccolo could just used his clothes beam to create heavy clothes and make enemies slower or even make them unable to move.

Telepathy is sadly another of the things Toriyama just used as a convenience and little else. He needed Roshi to get Namu's backstory quickly so he introduced the ability and that's all he used for it. Of course it would've made for some cool Young Justice style cooperative attacks but the characters usually forget they even have this power and just yap their plans out loud for no reason. The best example of this is when Piccolo, Krillin and Gohan are planing to attack Nappa as he charges Tien and Vegeta overhears them.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I think it's an ability that would make it hard to come up with battle scenes. One opponent can be thinking of a strategy and then it doesn't work because the other opponent read his mind and knew what he was going to do. It's something that I'm happy was scrapped, but something I'm not happy was even introduced in the first place, especially for characters like Roshi and Goku.

I don't even see why it needed to be used to begin with. Nan's backstory didn't need an elaborate explanation and as for Goku on Namek, all they had to do was cut away to another point of interest, then come back with Krillin saying "...and that's what happened". It's done all the time.

Keep in mind that it's established characters don't NEED telepathy in battle because ki sensing is a much better method of predicting attacks.

I am sure they can block their minds, from the other telepaths not to follow the conversation. Or the opponents would have heard about King Kai.
