What about the names if the Ginyu Force? Jeice, Burter, Guldo and Recoome are how they are in english, but I see fans type their names out differently based on Japanese. Are these names accurate?

I think those fall under "acceptable romanizations, albeit strange spelling". The Name guide is helpful here.

They pretty much all destroy their puns; no one is going to get "yogurt" out of "Guldo" and etc. But, strictly speaking of transliterations, "Jeice" is the only that is flat out wrong.

I've compiled a list of all of the name spellings done by Steve Simmons, the FUNimation names, and then the Viz manga names. The three are separated by dashes (Steve Simmons Translation - FUNimation - Viz). If there are parentheses, that means that the name was accompanied by a translation, or that there is a particular pronunciation. Slashes mean that multiple spellings/names were used. A lot of work went into it, so... enjoy.

What about the Korean, cantonese and mandarin names?

Vegeta for example, is "Beita"(or "Beydat") in cantonese, and "Dahl" in mandarin.

Another example is Trunks, that in cantonese was renamed "Tenankesi".

Or so, "Freeza" that became "Feyley" in cantonese and "Freezer" in many dubs around the world, like most of the european versions and the latino one.

And the most famous cases, "Son Goku" is "Sun Wukong" and "Son Gohan" is "Sun Wufang" in mandarin and cantonese versions.

I think Son Goku is a translation of Sun Wukong, if I'm not mistaken.

There's an episode of the dub where Tien drops the term "sky dancing"(Bukujutsu); it's after the arena is blown up at the 22nd Budokai and Goku doesn't have a spot to land in; but I suppose it's debatable he meant it in a "proper noun" type of way or not.

Is it weird that the FUNI dub went with almost all the worst choices for all the names in the series? Its almost like they were intentionally trying to change the names most of the time with improper name choices.

I'm surprised they didn't go the Pokemon route and change Japanese sounding names to American ones. Imagine if Yamcha's name in the dub was, "Jake" or something? And Tien became "Timothy?"

Maybe it's just because I'm used to the English names, but I don't think most of them are particularly bad. It's odd that they spelled "Freeza" with an "I", but at least they got the pronounciation right, and didn't call him "Freezer" or something like that.

Well its mostly the spellings, and obviously the spellings don't matter when you watch the show since you rarely see names written down outside of the episode titles

Well, my reaction to that is two-fold.

First, it could have been worse, and in some cases, it was worse. Of course there's the obvious example of the Big Green dub but--and I apologize in advance if I'm telling you something you already know--are you familiar with the Harmony Gold dub? It was a (very) short-lived and rarely-seen English dub of Dragon Ball produced in the 80's by Harmony Gold, using an LA-based cast. Feel free to read the full list of name changes here, but just for a small sample, how are these for changed names?

Goku=Zero
Kuririn=Bongo
Karin=Whiskers the Wonder Cat

So trust me, it could have been worse, and in some cases, it was worse.

Secondly, as we've discussed before, the vast majority of the names weren't changed. Some alternative romanization choices here and there, sure, but in many cases they are romanization changes that are not only acceptable, but commonly used in many other dubs besides the English one. So personally, I really don't think it's that bad. Not perfect, no, but not that bad either.
