This is an interesting topic and one that I’ve thought a lot on. I just hope that I don’t get any flack for reviving a 4 year old dead thread

The canon pairings.

Goku x Chichi
I really can't stand them. Goku only met her one time and because Goku happened to pat her privates they're suddenly married the next time they meet. She was literally created as a plot device to give him children. Other then that, she's just really annoying and can get overly bitchy. Her only saving grace to me is being faithful to Goku even though he's a huge retard that leaves her quite a bit. But then again, I can't see any reason he would stick around with some girl he barely even knows.

In retrospect, it's no wonder Goku seems to have more of a relationship with Vageta then he ever had with Chichi. He's never gotten to know her as a person and they have almost nothing personality or otherwise in common.

Vageta x Bulma
I'm rather "Meh" about this pairing. Sometimes I feel that Toriyama just put them together because he realized how popular Vageta had gotten and didn't know how else to keep him around unless he got with a major character.

Anyway, although Bulma helped Vageta get back on his feet after the Freeza arc, the beginning of their relationship felt more like a tenant having sex with his landlord and accidentally giving her a kid. I mean, Vageta didn't even seem to care about Trunks until future Trunks died. But Vageta does eventually start caring about his family and becomes a decent father. Also, despite the way they got together they're at least entertaining to watch and Vageta's tsundere nature is always adorable.

Gohan x Videl
Probably the only straight canon pairing in Dragon Ball that has actually gotten a significant amount of fleshing out. These two are adorable together and work out wonderfully. They both like fighting and they’re both dorky as hell. The whole Saiyaman and woman hijinks is what really sealed the deal for me that they were a perfect pairing.

Krillin x 18
While the idea itself is cute and I’m glad Krillin finally got rewarded with an incredibly hot chick to be his wife, they don’t really fit together all that well.

Sure, they had specifically romantic interactions with each other which led to their match-up in the first place but looking at their relationship as a whole, there still isn’t much to justify how they just ended up together and got married. Krillin was simply nice to her despite her being evil (and it wasn’t for very long I might add) and he basically won her over because of that; hook line and sinker.

While it may look cute from an outside perspective, when you really get down to it, it’s a lazy and generic way to get two people together.

Anyway, although i'm not a fan of the couple I can at least see the logic in how and why it happened.

Yamcha x Bulma
I’m actually glad this couple is no longer a thing. Bulma was always a jealous and overbearing bitch to him and was constantly looking for someone to replace him when he wasn’t around (general Blue anyone?)

Yamcha honestly deserves better than what he gets in this story.

Non canon but popular pairings

Goku x Vageta
Even though this pairing will never happen, their relationship, friendship or otherwise, is by far one of the most developed relationships and (in my opinion) one of the most compelling in the show.

Like the gif image in soulnova’s post, Goku and Vegeta can seemingly communicate a wide rage feelings and comradely though a simple glance; something that I don’t remember other characters being able to pull off.

Goku is also the only person that Vageta has ever truly opened up to even though he’s constantly going on about his pride and trying to beat Goku at every turn. This is incredibly apparent in movie 12 where Vageta actually says as much and even cries in front of Goku.

And if that weren't enough, given that they have literally been one in the same person multiple times, it seems safe to assume that they can remember each other's feelings and memories when they separate; giving them an understanding of each other that no one else can even come close to.

Goku x Bulma
Absolutely not, and for many of the same reason I don’t like Bulma x Yamcha and Goku x Chichi.

Trunks x Mai
I’m not a fan of the Pilaf gang in general and I absolutely loath this pairing. Not only did they come completely out of left field and sounds like some 13 year old's idea of a “Kawaii” fanfiction couple but Mai herself is an old woman, with the body of a child, that has a crush on a 9 year old boy.

Who thought this was a good idea?

Whats even more disturbing is that Bulma knows exactly who she is and isn’t the least bit disapproving of it?

Trunks x Goten
I honestly could care less about them as a pairing since they’re pretty annoying as children and seemingly useless as teenagers. Also, despite the two of them fusing quite often, neither seem to have that deep intangible bond that their fathers do.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that they’re only half Sayain or maybe it’s because both of them just seem too goofy and simplistic to have a deep connection. Nevertheless, I don’t see much between them except for obnoxious friendship shenanigans.

Tien x Launch
I think he and Launch would be a nice couple since they’ve been around each other for a long time and have gone on many adventures together.

Also, Tein amazingly gets along and seems to mesh well with both versions of Launch’s personality. If he would get it through his fat three eyed head that she’s completely in love with him I would definitely approve.

Piccolo x Anybody
Besides being all male and reproducing from eggs - is there even a way for them to procreate with other species? Do Namekians even have dicks? Maybe they can grow one like an extra arm or something.

Trunks x Pan
I actually used to be a huge fan of this pairing but have recently fallen out of love with it. I know I just chewed out the ‘Trunks x Mai’ pairing for age issues but I suppose I liked Trunks x Pan because not only did they travel together for a good chunk of GT but neither of them was deceiving the other in how old they were.

Furthermore neither Trunks or Pan looked the ages they were supposed to actually be and the age gap between them is much smaller than he and Mai.

That being said, I’ve long since abandoned this couple. Besides the age gap problem, the only version of Trunks that I actually like is Future Trunks and we’ll probably never see him again. Also, I don’t really like GT Pan either and I’m hoping she is changed to resemble the adorable little tomboy with Goku’s personality that we see at the end of Z and the short Neko Buu manga.

Ubb x Pan
Honestly, I don’t know why people ship him with anyone let alone Pan. We don’t know anything about this kid other than he’s a good person from a poor village and is the reincarnation of Buu.

And with that being said, he’s a last minute tacked on character at the very end of the whole Dragon Ball saga. To me Ubb seems completely unnecessary to the story and uninteresting in both physical appearance and character personality.

So, no. Not a supporter of this couple at all.

Goten x Bra/Bula
Again, people forget the age gap between these two because Bra looks like a teenager when she’s actually just as young as Pan. Not only that but they completely ruined her character in GT. She’s a little girl who wears a whole outfit of red leather, drives a car, gets hit on by older men, makes her father carry her bags as she goes shopping, and generally comes off like a vapid and spoiled brat.

And as for Goten, just by looking at his current girlfriend tells you that he’s seems more interested in banging some hot chick then actually being in real relationship.

Goten x Marron
If Goten were to stop being a shallow idiot and dump his current girlfriend then I could see these two working out perfectly. They’ve known each other since childhood and used to play together. Both of their fathers are also best friends, and both Goten and Marron seem to have a generally happy and positive outlook on life.

Trunks x Marron
I’m not against the idea but I don’t really care about it either. Other than being around the same age and knowing each other to the same degree as Goten and Marron, I don’t see how Marron would be better off with Trunks as opposed to Gotten personality wise. Especially since Vegeta would probably blow his stack if his son ever got with the child of an android.

Rare or completely unheard of pairings

Goku x Suno
Probably the only female pairing for Goku that makes at least some sense. Honestly, Suno was only there for one episode but she did more for Goku in her one appearance then Chichi ever seems to do for him throughout whole manga series. (Although maybe I'm pushing it with that last statement)

She managed to drag his dead weight for god knows how many miles through the thick cold snow and ended up saving him from freezing to death.

It’s not much in the grand scheme of romantic interaction but then they have more fleshing in their relationship then Goku and Chichi ever had.

Yamcha x Mai
Now this is a pairing that I feel should be more popular. Both Yamcha and Mai are extremely shy, naive, and hopeless when it comes to the opposite sex. And both were once antagonists to the main characters in the series.

I would have loved to see all their ridiculously cute shenanigans while trying to get together.

Tarble x Pan
I think I’m the only one who ships this pairing and I’m pretty sad about it. I guess the first thing I should get out of the way is the fact that Tarble already has a wife.

I understand that her character design was supposed to be played for comedic shock value and as a character in her own right, she can be sort of cute. But when you get passed all that and try to imagine the two of them being “intimate” with each other, it’s really quite stomach turning; especially when you try to imagine what kind of abomination their child would look like.

To me it’s like Tarble trying to mate with the short skinny female version of the marshmallow monster from the first Ghostbusters movie.

Also, Tarble isn’t canon to anything since he shows up in a movie and none of the movies are considered canon.

Now with that out of the way and assuming we could get the two characters to a relatively similar age, I could see this pairing not only working but also being pretty interesting. Tarble is a very sweet natured and kind person and I think he would both compare and contrast well with Pan’s current “end of Z/Neko Buu manga” tomboy personality. The way they could get to know each other would be somewhat reminiscent of Gohan and Videl. Since Tarble considered weak, I could easily see Pan offering a helping hand in that department and they could spend hours training together with the help of Goku.

Also, out of all of Goku’s family, Pan is the one that Vegeta seems the least offended by and even says “she has the right attitude” when he and Bulma go to visit Goku in the last two chapters of Z

So there it is. My stupidly long ten page Theseus on which DB pairings I think are best and why.

It's something I really hope gets kept in Super F and why I'd like more background about what led to them training with Whis and what it was like for them. We see a little of it in F, but I want to know how it started (episode 16 of Super looks like it'll explain some).

Let's see:

Like (canon):

Bulma/Vegeta: I could write a treatise on this: basically, I think they have similiar personalities in a lot of ways and they are opposites in ways that work as well. I think they just mesh, especially since neither is particularly romantic or touchy feely. That said, I don't like Yamcha bashing in my stories. I don't think he is a bad guy, and I don't think Bulma thinks he is a bad guy.

Chichi/Goku: The fact that they got together during the Budoukai, that they are both part of a legacy of Turtle School students, that Chichi still talks fondly of fighting Goku at the Budoukai… I can't imagine a better match. As grown upsa, yeah, they have different priorities, but I think it works nevertheless.

(I don't dislike other canon pairings, I'm just not that intrigued by them, but sure, Go Team Gohan/Videl, Krillin/18)

Want to like *desperately* but can't visualize as a couple:

Vegeta/Goku: Maybe I just see them as a couple in the soulmates/bromance way. But they have such a connection. I wish I could ship them in a more romantic way, but I have trouble "seeing it". Vegeta has such an "I'll never fight again" attitude when Goku is dead after the Cell Games, and mentions him after he sacrifices himself. And they have been in each other's *minds* with Potara fusion and everything. I think there is so much potential for good stories here. And it is not like they are best friends or anything: that sort of "tension" is good for a story.

In a weird alternate universe:

Vegeta/Chichi: I don't know, it just works for me. They are both fighters, they both love Goku, maybe if Bulma hadn't had Trunks already by the time Goku died in the Cell Games it could have been a thing. I wouldn't wish to split up my main canon couples, but if they were both widows at the same time through no fault of their own… yeah, I'd ship it.

Future 17/Future Trunks or Future 18/Future Trunks: Yeah, I was young once and thought this was intriguing in a dark way. Don't know how it would work but it could "in a weird alternate universe".

Also Recently: Whis/Vegeta: Dunno, there could be something there, if Whis weren't like some weird ethereal godly being and Vegeta weren't a married yet antisocial ass.

Nope:
Trunks/Pan, Goten/Bra: Ew. No. too much like Brother/Sister/Uncle/something.
Any incestuous pairings/ and outright adultery without some clever AU to explain it.
Bulma/Goku: Nope. Too much like Brother/Sister, too.

Non-canon Pairings I'd like:
Marron/Goten: Continuing the great "Disciples of Turtle school's children getting together" tradition. Would be cute. Both are playful and non-pretentious. I'd like that.

Uub/Pan: Yeah, I'd go for that. They both are really into fighting.

Launch/Yamcha: He's strong enough to handle her blonde side while wanting someone sweet most of the time. I think it would be a perfect solution for those who want to bring Launch back and thouse who want Yamcha happy and married. Heck, nothing in canon contradicts that this actually happened.

As I've said at the random website i found doing ranking on "the top ten married anime couples ", in all seriousness, Goku and Chichi relationship has the most vast-ranging relationship you can get. That if you were to take their line of story and narrate it in differrent tones and genre, it would come off as very endearing and even tragic sort of way.

A princess stay naively loyal to a childhood promise with a monkey boy riding cloud, seek him out eight years later, almost giving up only to be proposed in front of hundreds people. The man later found out to be predestined as destroyer and conqueror of earth, but ironically turned out as the saviour of the very world itself. Fights, bloods, sacrifice, perseverance and ascending limits, the whole relationship was tested through separation by years, distanced by galaxies, trials of parenting and faith during life and times of death.

Srsly, as much as toriyama said he's not good at writing romance, he managed to wrote off some strong and long standing couples in his series.
