What Ep is that Raditz Shot from? I'll pull out my Orange Brick and Add it to the comparison shot I made.
Pretty sure it's episode 2 (I just flipped through my .vob files until I found it).
And yes guys, there is a visible different between the two, but it could easily be attributed to the fact that
Haseowolf's .jpg FUNi DBox screens were compressed to JPEG format by Photobucket. We should wait for lossless versions before a definitive judgement is made.
I'm having a hard time locating my Orange Bricks (I just moved) if you have the VOB files handy, could you take the shot?

I dunno, maybe I'm just used to the brightness of the orange bricks.

Then why make the comparison in the first place?.
The screencap isn't even in the correct resolution, and you're adding fuel to the fire of moronic paranoia by making worthless comparisons that aren't indicative of anything.
So instead of lovely thread celebrating a release that we've all been waiting for, it's already degenerated to a clusterfuck of misinformed opinions and baseless assumptions by the technically inept.

Whoops, forgot to check. For the next episode previews on the English Dub option it switches to Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Sounds like the only way to handle it.
Question, were there any extras on these dics or just plain FUNi trailers?

I thought standard definition was 720 by 480? Those are the exact dimensions DV/NTSC uses, anyway... (I actually don't know what format these DVDs use, but I thought that was the usual... )
(There goes my evil post count. Aww. :[ )
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

It is, I'm just stupid. At some point in my life I heard standard def is 640 by 480 and it's stuck with me ever since.
Edit: Or not. I know standard resolution isn't 720 by 540 though.

Standard definition as encoded is 720x480, that isn't the display resolution though (it has to do with different sized pixels.)
Display resolution for 4:3 DVD content on a PC monitor is 640x480
Don't cap in VLC, it's had issues lately with MPG2.
Capping in SMplayer may work.
The option I normally use, is I cap in MPC-HC (with CCCP, default settings).
Then you go into Photoshop and use a bi gradient filter to change the resolution to 640x480, which shows them how they should appear.
As I'm not currently on my primary machine I can't double check things for Haseo, but if he uploads native 720x480 PNGs I can still properly alter them to what we need to do a proper and fair comparison.
Or he can e-mail me them or message me on AIM, whatever he wants.

I'm going to reserve judgment until I see these puppies in motion. The Japanese ones blew my mind! From what I've seen so far the differences are minute. I'm pretty confident the American counterparts will be just as impressive. I do, however, want a confirmation on the Japanese mono at 96kbps. I sure hope that that's not true!

Took those new shots we got and made an updated comparison.
NOTE: I had to downsize the FUNi Shot to make it the same size as the Toei DBox shot we were given before in this thread. And again, there's some dispute about the quality of the shots provided, so take them with a grain of salt so far.
Stop rushing to make fucking comparison images.
The screencaps aren't right: the resolution is wrong, and the mpg stream isn't being decoded properly.
Wait until there are proper caps to make comparisons, you aren't doing anything worthwhile rushing and doing it to captures we know aren't good.
This is as polite as I'm going to get on this matter, so just stop it.

Now that we are on the same page, we can wait until proper caps appear.
Congratulations and good luck on future endeavors.

I'm 99% sold.

I'm going to wait for more information to come through in this thread, but yeah, this looks phenomenal. Thank goodness I still have another week left to pre-order through Amazon if I choose to buy.
On hiatus.

But if the caps aren't actually representative of the product what's the point of the comparison?
