I got Volume 6 in the mail today and I must say that they screwed up the dragonbook on this one. The majority of the pages are very blurry for some reason :shock:

Amazon updated my Dragon Box 6 to "Shipping Soon"! :D

I can't wait to watch the Buu episodes, for the first time in their original Japanese format! :mrgreen:

Yeah, you might want to think about exchanging that. My copy definitely doesn't have any blurry pages or any problems to speak of.

Is anyone gonna post any screen caps??? All the other threads had tons of screen caps.. I haven't seen not one screen cap on this thread, or any pictures of the Dragon Book besides the front...

It's not that they're not proper, it's that I only capped on the frames that were of the best quality. MPEG2 --DVD's video codec, other popular video codecs are H.264 (AVC), DivX, XviD, MPEG1, MPEG4, etc.-- is GOP based, made up of "groups of pictures." That group of pictures starts on an I (I for intra) frame (also known as a key frame) that is a fully independent picture. (sort of like a JPEG.) So the rest of the GOP is based off that I-frame. The other types of frames are P (P for predictive) frames, and B (bidirectionally predictive) frames, and these are sometimes of a lower quality than the I-frames they're based off. It's one of the ways MPEG2 squeezes so much video into so little space.

It's probably not the I-frames that make it look so good actually... It's probably because I didn't cap with VLC. (I used Virtual Dub Mod and resized with GIMP.) or comparison, here are some shots I did in VLC. They may or may not be Intra frames.

Compare the black lines at the top of VLC's caps to those of VDubMod's caps. See how VDubMod's are solid and crisp, while VLC's are a bit blurry. VLC's caps are a bit blurry in general.
Even a highly macroblocked scene on this (Box 6) set is crisp, though blocky:

Yeah, VLC used to be pretty good, but it's had a lot of codec problems as of late. MPC is a lot better, although you probably get the best looking stuff via Virtual Dub Mod, as you said.

It's just that usually with the FuniBox sets, they look a bit softer than the JP sets, yet this one looks just as crisp as the Japanese ones. I guess Funi just encoded these ones better. Can someone with the JP box or single provide some caps for comparison?
