Re: My hatred of Dragonball Kai
Uh... I don't really understand what it is you're asking. Do you mean is there a version that's uncut in relation to the original DBZ? Because things like little boy-cawk, some of the gorier images, etc. are just censored in Kai, full stop. If you mean when compared to the US TV broadcast versions, then the DVDs/Blu-rays are as "uncut" as Kai gets, meaning nothing is changed from the original Japanese broadcasts, and they are in both Japanese and English with subtitles.Nex Carnifex wrote:Can anyone tell me if their is an unedited version of Kai? I don't care about the penis but taking away the gore is pretty bad. It makes me think they took away some of the other more mature stuff as to dumb it down.

Well, the original DBZ aired on a primetime Wednesday night time-slot, while Kai was Sunday morning. Also Japanese TV laws have become more strict in the last 20 years.Nex Carnifex wrote:I don't care about the penis but taking away the gore is pretty bad. Wasn't the biggest edit the Makankosappo blast wound on Goku and Raditz*? Besides that there wasn't anything that extreme right?

A bit of blood is gone when Freeza pierces Vegeta's chest and when he head butts Vegeta, but the weird thing is they actually added blood at one point when Freeza has him by the tail and is beating the crap out of him.Soul wrote:Wasn't the biggest edit the Makankosappo blast wound on Goku and Raditz*? Yes, there is an uncut version of Kai. It's sold on DVD and Blu-Ray. The versions of Kai that you see on TV are edited (especially on the CW4Kids, where it is actually edited even more than on Nicktoons). Tanooki Kuribo has a great web site devoted to the TV edits of Kai.Nex Carnifex wrote:I don't care about the penis but taking away the gore is pretty bad. A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

But no I don't think they have any versions of Kai where they put in the gore or blood. Which is another reason my hatred for it burns brightly.

Meh, gore doesn't really matter one way or another to me. I understand that it's a censorship thing and I'm not a fan of censorship, but at the same time lot of super awesome martial arts death blows in movies and such generally leave only some sort of bruise while causing massive, and often fatal, internal damage to the victim. In a way, it fits so I can't stay mad at it.vegetaslegacy15 wrote:lmfao " I don't care about the penis" i love thisNex Carnifex wrote:I don't care about the penis but taking away the gore is pretty bad. Yeah but in martial arts movies the characters cant destroy planets and smash mountains with their physical strength, when Vegeta is punched by Frieza I was blood spraying out, it just makes it more impacting.Kendamu wrote:Meh, gore doesn't really matter one way or another to me. OK, but seriously. Compared to other animes, there really isn't much "gore" in Dragon Ball.

Re: My hatred of Dragonball Kai
I'm not sure I'm getting this across, so I'll say it once again, that's the TV version only. FUNimation has released an uncut version of Kai on DVD and Blu-Ray. Tanooki Kuribo, who posted right above me, has a web site dedicated to showing the edits. DBZ was in a similar situation back in the day. Only the re-dub of the first two seasons were aired uncut on Cartoon Network. Everything else was edited to a degree. They edited less because they could legally get away with more, but the show was still not uncut. The only way to see the show uncut was, and still is, to buy the DVDs (or Blu-Rays).vegetaslegacy15 wrote:lmfao " I don't care about the penis" i love thisNex Carnifex wrote:I don't care about the penis but taking away the gore is pretty bad. There has been a very minimal amount of censorship on the Japanese end with Kai, but it really isn't that much. There's still a lot of blood. Then again, I don't judge the quality of Kai by the amount of blood split on the show.

I feel that I'll have to start relying on visual aids to help you understand the point people have been trying to get across to you on multiple threads for a couple of days now:Nex Carnifex wrote:Yeah but in martial arts movies the characters cant destroy planets and smash mountains with their physical strength, when Vegeta is punched by Freeza I was blood spraying out, it just makes it more impacting.

Re: My hatred of Dragonball Kai
The demography for DragonBall was listed as shounen. It was aimed for young kids. Sure, by time it got to Daimao arc the tone has changed a little bit but not that much that they had to consider it as adult. The manga was even less gore than anime version. For the sake of comparsion, Berserk was much, much more gore. The small amount of blood doesn't adultize DragonBall. What do you really expect of a martial art genre?Nex Carnifex wrote:Yeah but in martial arts movies the characters cant destroy planets and smash mountains with their physical strength, when Vegeta is punched by Freeza I was blood spraying out, it just makes it more impacting.

Re: My hatred of Dragonball Kai
There is actually a debate between Dragon Ball fans on the internet over whether or not Dragon Ball is intended for kids. Some people say that it's intended for kids (as evidenced by the fact that it's a shounen title), while some people say that it's intended for young adults (as evidenced by the occasionally violent and dark content). The stance that I've always taken with regard to this is that Dragon Ball was intended for kids, but for Japanese kids. Japan has different cultural values and standards--especially with regard to violence--than other countries, hence the reason the show is edited when it airs on TV in other parts of the world. What's commonly acceptable for kids in Japan is sometimes not acceptable for kids elsewhere. It would appear that in Japan, kids are allowed to watch content more commonly reserved for teens and young adults over in America.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:The demography for DragonBall was listed as shounen. This is the "Well, duh," simple point that we've been trying to get across to Nex Carnifex in every thread he's been in since he's gotten here. What you're saying is absolutely right. Anything else is just a load of crap. It has nothing to do with opinion. What you're saying here is pure fact.TheBlackPaladin wrote:The stance that I've always taken with regard to this is that Dragon Ball was intended for kids, but for Japanese kids.
Re: My hatred of Dragonball Kai
The funny thing is that uncut DBZ kai has faaaar more swearing than uncut DBZ but has a little less gore.
Also about the wound on Goku's chest, it looks like more of an exit wound because there is a massive pool of blood on Goku and the ground when Goku was just about to be taken to the otherworld.
But yeah the DBZ Kai hatred is just plain idiotic.
I can understand why regular DB Kai can be considered a piece of crap but DBZ Kai was the best thing that happened to DBZ in the west regarding the A+ dubbing and soundtrack.
