Both vocal tracks are produced at the exact same time, because the release is intended for J + EFIGS day and date in all of those countries, if not close to it. So there is no "original" voice track for Metal Gear Solid 2-4 that came first... and a lot of other video games are like this as well. They've always been and intended to be multilingual releases.

(MGS2 and 3 technically came out in the US first, but the voice tracks for that in Japanese + English were all recorded at the same time as well.)

If you pick up the Japanese Blurays for Gundam Unicorn, it's much the same way. They have both languages on them. Big O2 was produced for the US (co-financed by Cartoon Network), and as such was always intended to be multilingual as well.

Somehow this thread has grown past that and has been allowed to discuss localizations in other countries in general. If anything, it may do with thread rename or a split or something...

I guess since we're talking about video game localization, maybe we can talk about how the DBZ games have been created and localized? What is the process whereby they appear here? I know the recent ones have appeared here so close to the Japanese versions that most of them had to be multilingual from the start.

I never played any translated version of Raging Blast 1, so I only found it really noticable in Raging Blast 2 and Ultimate Tenkaichi. Specially in Raging Blast 2, were we had "Tuffle" and "TurIes"...
(And, of course, always with the dub names, proper romanizations be damned)

What's wrong with the subtitles? As far as I can tell the scripts used by the people dubbing them are pretty much identical to the original. The only problems I see are different terminology.

The "pretty much identical". They have to adapt it for the english dialog, sure, but they also change it a bit and dumb it down every now and then. But when you're displaying something that's supposed to be a translation of the original, you don't make it "pretty much the same", you make it "what it is".
What they've been doing is slapping the scripts used for the english voices to what is the translation. They're spot on!...if you watch it with the english cast. And, of course, all the dub terminology and names...sometimes on something that has no dub, like Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans (which, as far as subtitles, was also "pretty much" okay)

No, the script just isn't ultra literal. Before Kai, Burst Limit was some of the best dub work we ever got. I can see how you'd like to just have a translation as well, but it's nothing to complain about, there are no brilliant scientists to be found.

No shit. Really, it's nothing to lose sleep over. If anything, I'd be complaining that they don't have subtitles for scenes where there aren't any even with the English voices.

Also, nothing that substantial. Nothing else is changed as it's a pretty straight forward translation.

The first 2 DBZ movies and Movies 6, 8, 10, 11 and 12 are also very good in English.(Barring Dragon Fire and AMV style music in Movies 5, 8 and 10)

EDIT: The AMV style music is actually quite fitting. Movie 5 is not so great in English because of slight alterations to the story(not script, alterations.) However the voice acting is quite good IMHO.
