Another great week for Kai!

Kill La Kill lost a shit ton of viewers... again. :problem:

Kai continues pulling in good numbers.

Back-to-canon One Piece outperformed Gurren Lagann's finale. Huh. Will be interesting to see whether Shippuden dropping to 2AM next week will have any noticeable effect on anything.

Really? Kai has better ratings than Z did back in it's prime? :o

I meant the rebooted version of Toonami. Toonami from 2012.

Nope. It(Toonami at its prime) had a solid 1.7 million on the 6-11 demographic alone. It had even more if you counted adults and smaller children.

But its IMPRESSIVE that its still pulling more than Bleach ever did. And keep in mind Kai is a glorified rerun that's been rerun to death of a show that was also rerun to death. Its just really addictive. Dope and Crack got nothing on DBZ!

For what it's worth, here's the info graph that includes the 18-49 demographic information (which is the most important range for a channel like Adult Swim since advertisers don't really care about people under 18 - total viewers is more of a bragging rights thing):

Notably, the drop from Kai to Kill la Kill is a lot less disastrous-looking for that demographic. Kai is basically attracting a bunch of 17-and-under viewers, who then leave when it's over.

I know they're on at later hours, but it pains me to see Shippuden and Inuyasha outperforming TTGL and One Piece.

Doesn't matter. Kai is taking big, massive shit on their mouths in favor.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

Can you imagine if Toonami still had the 11:30PM slot? Kai would do even better there.

Thankfully, Family Guy, a show with superior fight scenes to any Toonami shows, outpaces all of them even on 10 year old repeats.

And don't forget that Family Guy is what we have to thank for Kai's ratings in the first place (also, it's a touch harder to find what airs prior to pre-Toonami Kai, but it's interesting to see how that affects the ratings. Was Shrek last week apparently.)

Also, no one complains when the chicken comes back.

Different markets. One Piece has never done great on US tv.
When will it be Ledgic's time to shine?

So even if 4KIDS didn't dub One Piece first, One Piece would still be a failure in the US? Won't surprise me if that's the case.

I'm pretty sure it would have done better if it was done with a decent dub instead of 4kids dubbing it.

Yeah, it would've, but I still think it wouldn't have become popular like it is in Japan. The art can really be wacky and turn some people off. Some anime fans I know say that Dragon Ball's art is tame compared to One Piece.

This is the most likely reason why One Piece has such difficulty reaching western audiences. Western anime fans tend towards anime because it's not like western media. One Piece, however, looks substantially more western and, unlike most other anime, makes liberal use of Tex Avery-style cartoon physics, especially in its over-the-top promotional artwork. Because One Piece looks so much like western animation, this turns a lot of western anime fans off of the series before even trying it. And that's not even mentioning the number of episodes. The concept of One Piece also isn't typically Japanese - pirates. Many people read and watch manga and anime because they like Japanese culture, and entirely Japanese concepts like ninjas or samurais may seem more interesting to them than pirates which also star in tons of Western shows.

Kill La Kill was poorly market in the US compare to newer anime like Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online. Not to mention I don't think people are into a show with fighting clothes.

Well, Kill La Kill gained a lot of interest within several anime communities and I honestly thought that it would reach somewhere near AOT level of popularity. But it looks like it's just gonna be a one hit wonder, which is such a damn shame because the show is so awesome. But I can see why wouldn't appeal to the mas audience because its premise is incredibly outlandish and absurd. But ironically, that is what makes the show so crazy awesome and unique. Oh well. :|
