Anyways the dub wasn't that bad. Except for the whole Dragon Fire fiasco. But I would have loved it if they didn't make up some of the Tapion backstory. Other than that I like it. The Japanese version I still had to mute whenever Goku yelled, she(:D) makes my ears bleed, but I still love the "If I don't do it---Who Will?" line. But the Japenese version is still as I remember it only with better subtitles.
Wow... just wow...

I agree, sir. :(

Now all you have to do, MG, is wait for Sebastian (DaizEX's resident crazy Masako Nozawa fanatic) to see your post... nah, can't wait that long.

Are you mad sir? Schemmel's screams are far more painful to listen to. at least Nozawa doesnt sound like she's been kicked in the balls every time she screams.

Dragonbox = Your car after the wash, but with the roof and wheels missing

As clear as those Dragonbox pictures are, I'd much rather have most of the image instead. But to his his own or whatever the saying's supposed to be :).
That's kind of a bad comparison as you'll need a roof and wheels for a car. What the Dragon Box chops out really isn't even important in the slightest. Besides, when actually watching the Dragon Box version, you wouldn't even really notice considering how darn gorgeous the quality looks and sounds.

Not to mention, FUNi's prints are somewhat zoomed in. So you're not exactly getting all of the picture.
Plus the Dragonboxes look gorgeous on an LCD and plasma setups. I have both and literally creamed my pants watching them.

I still plan on picking the dub of movie 13 so I can see how it was dubbed and finally watch it with Daimao's subs. I've only owned a copy of the raw vhs for many years. I have all the other FUNi/Pioneer movies so it would nice to finish the collection since I think movie 13 ends the movies on a very high note. :)

It was one of the movies I felt that..

- Some actual thought was put into the writing of the story.
- The heroes didn't wait till half the movie to go SSJ.
- It strayed a bit from the normal dbz formula in a good way.
- It's one of the movies that could fit in the actual timeline.

How could movie 13 fit in the timeline? The only one that could make sense doing that is movie 9 from what I understand.

It fits into right after they defeat Buu, or anytime within a year or so of beating Buu.

I would say it's within the 6 months they had to wait for the DragonBalls to return after beating Buu. Hence why Mr. Buu is nowhere to be seen; he would be still hiding 'cause people remember and would recognize him.

Unless, of course, I've missed some glaring counter-detail like a Shenlong- summoning in the movie.

HAHA! Yes you did.... but remember canonicity has nothing to do with the movies. Goku could have pink hair and it wouldn't matter! Still I enjoyed watching this movie and it is among one of my favourites 8) .

Oh, really? Did they summon Shenlong at some point?

I haven't seen more than a few stray video clips from the movie yet. I plan to buy it soon, once I have, ya know... money.

Well, when Gohan is (bare with me) 'mystic', you don't see an aura when he powers up. He powers up in his first fight with the bottom half. But later when the monster is complete, the Son Family powers up but Gohan has no aura. Is this making any sense..?

The whole issue with summoning Shenlong in the movie can be explained that it occurred six months after Buu's memory erasing wish was made. Hence why Shenlong only grants 1 wish rather than 2. From my point of view, I place this movie right after episode 288 (dub title "He's Always Late"). And if anyone even tries bringing up Future Trunks showing up in the ending credits, just ignore what the Daizenshuu says and go with the simple fact that Present Trunks is following in his footsteps, plus he is seen with his sword later in GT. The issue on SSJ3 Goku defeating an enemy whom Gotenks and even Ultimate Gohan couldn't, I just go with the idea that Goku used the 100% power he spoke of using against Kid Buu, though never got a chance. Finally, I go with the idea that Buu and Hercule are most likely on vacation (probably to the DB version of Disney World, who knows), explaining why Bulma and Trunks are looking after Bee.

Anywho, I've gotten way too off topic, my apologies. When looking back at this movie, I'm pretty damn disappointed that there was a serious lack of real extras. I mean we get 14 character profiles and 9 trailers, why couldn't FUNi have made a little behind-the-scenes featurette or included a documentary on one of the video games? The packaging is awesome, but really the only meat-and-potatos of the DVD is the full-screen, Daimao subbed stereo Japanese version (that has, as I already mentioned, very good looking video quality IMO). It's just a shame about the extras, this is the last DBZ movie and movie 12's extras didn't do any better, so eh...whatever.

Bee was in the movie? Man, now I've gotta re-watch it again (not that I'm complaining). Also, how can Shenlong's wish be granted in the movie if one of the wishes was used before to wish back everyone Majin Vegeta killed?

But yeah, back on topic...

In the Buu saga, when Bulma summons Shenlong to make the wish for "Everyone who died today, except for the really bad ones, to come back to life", Dende explains to Goku that if they ask Shenlong to depart after one of the two wishes, then the balls will become detectable on the radar after 4 months, apparently the second wish can be made after 6 months. Now what this means is that if only 1 out of the 2 wishes is made, the balls won't stay inert for a whole year like they did when Cell's victims were revived (alongside 17 and 18's bombs being removed).

Following Buu's defeat, Goku makes the second wish to have the memories of Buu erased from the "normal Earthlings". Because Goku made only 1 wish here as well, then logically, another wish would become available within 4-6 months; basically why the Z warriors don't get offered a second wish after Tapion's music box is effected. Due to this, it's safest to assume the feature takes place 6 or so months after the "Buu's memories erased" wish. I hope I'm making sense!

Gotten way off topic... :(

Rainbows, Edge-enchancement (which seem to appear on quite a few discs, not sure about 13), interlacing etc doesn't exactly make for very good looking video quality, but what sort of setup are you using?

Seriously, I didn't have a big issue with the video quality. It was just fine in my book, and leaps ahead of any fansub out there, as well as the original VHS released by Toei. I didn't really catch much of any rainbow or other problems, but then, I'm not comparing it side-by-side with the Dragonbox version just to negatively bash it based on absolute-precise color schemes and such. But eh, if someone wants to do comparisons, I guess they will.

This is not what I am implying. What I mean is, how can we trust the opinion of a person who is not properly informed nor was able to be informed properly, assuming you did not have the appropriate equipment.
