FUNimation's DBZ Movie 13 Release Discussion
Has anyone else picked this up? Am I alone in thinking Funi just doesnt even try anymore? Seriously, the BGM, if you can call it that, seemed like random notes being pounded on a Casio. Who in their right mind would change Tapion's flute song?

They did WHAT?! DDDD:
I really liked Tapion's music! If they changed it, there's no way I'm thinking of getting this movie. I'm just fine with the Japanese version I've got on the computer.

Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

Yeah, I don't see why they changed it but at least it isn't as bad as some of the lines of dialogue in the film (i.e. "We need balls!" as said by Goku). Plus the whole Dragon Fire and Hirudegarn buisness. But that is all discussed on other threads, like here and here.
KinoFourpaws, you do know that they have the japanese track on the dvds too, right?[

Well, yeah, but why pay for another copy of the Japanese version if I already have one? I mostly watch the DVDs to see what the dubs are like, anyway.jwimz wrote:Yeah, I don't see why they changed it but at least it isn't as bad as some of the lines of dialogue in the film (i.e. "We need balls!" as said by Goku). Crappy dub aside, I think I'll still buy it for the Japanese. I'm too inequipped and/or lazy to get a hold of it any other way.

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but there's always the possibility that FUNimation could not have legally left the original flute music in there. It might count as part of the original soundtrack, which I think they'd have had to pay royalties to Toei in order to add into the dub.Sun_Wukong wrote:Has anyone else picked this up? Wrath of the Dragon is pretty much how I feel about DBZ dubbing as a whole. Not too bad, but the changes to the BGM hurt it. Also I used to listen to Tapion's flute many times on the web in the past (back in the day when Planet Namek was the best place to go for Dragon Ball) and I was disappointed they changed it for the dub.

I'm still waiting on my copy...I have a supplier I usually go to because he cuts me a deal on the sale price. But with the price being so low at Circuit City I may have made a mistake.
And regardless of how bad the dub may be, I'd still buy the movie. It's the last one I need to own, and I've never seen the whole thing before. Besides, the Japanese version is still there, and I need Daimao's translations to know what the heck is going on.

Got the DVD in yesterday, so here's my thoughts:
The Japanese track: Excellent as always. I mainly got this to replace the digisub I downloaded (with an awful translation to boot), I wanted Daimao's subs and clear DVD quality (the digisub was a VCD rip, so it looked awful.) I especially liked that this movie was in stereo, and it sounded clearer than the mono tracks.
The English track: Typical for FUNimation's DBZ dubs, not completely awful, but too much changed from the original to make it enjoyable. The dub music was awful and blarred over SFX, originally silent scenes, and even voices.
Some of the dialogue was accurate, which was good. But parts of Tapion's and Hildegarn's background stories were changed too much. Tapion's sword was made "from God", not "discovered and used by a wizard"!!!! The English VAs for the most part did an excellent job with what they were given, the only dub voice that bothered me was Hildegarn, who just sounded like a guy impersonating a monster, instead of using real roars like the original.
In summary, FUNI dub = Decent, but not the best way to watch the movie.
Now I have no more DBZ DVDs to buy until the Season Sets in 2007.
I can call my DBZ Movie Collection COMPLETED!

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
