Well here in New York, anything that's crappy is called bootleg. I'm sorry if that offends you, I'll try to be politically correct from now on lol Okay, so I was just making a joke...but you know, that's the breaks.
Djinn Buu...WELL, I listened to that podcast where they explained it, and it's basically a normal translation, just something different. As far as the M on his belt, well...that M is more the symbol of Babidi than Majin Buu the way I look at it. M for Madoshi or Master/Magician?

Which kinda defeats the purpose. Televisions and all other display devices are supposed to conform to reference levels (hence the advent of THX test patterns and such), so that there is uniformity and a director's work with light sources and color saturation is experienced properly when viewed on any display. If you have to change your television from reference levels to make something not look painful...well, then it's crackheaded.TheGreatness25 wrote:On my TV, it looks pretty good. But on the comp, it looks horrible. Then again, I adjusted my TV to make it look half way normal.
Weird. Never heard that word used that way when I was in NYC before. Never heard it used by New York natives in that context either. In any case, a bootleg is (by definition) something that is produced, reproduced, or distributed illicitly or without authorization. So...calling a freeware program that can't be distributed illicitly (since it's...y'know, free) a bootleg is ignorant.Well here in New York, anything that's crappy is called bootleg.

I say Djinn is fine too; the M does indeed stand for Madoshi I believe. If not why isn't anyone else called "majin"? Babidi doesn't call Vegeta "Majin Vegeta" he doesn't call Dabura "Majin Dabura" he doesn't call anyone Majin besides Buu. So I think Majin is just a descriptive term (magical being) and the M’s all stand for Madoshi,as in they are his property.TheGreatness25 wrote: Djinn Buu...WELL, I listened to that podcast where they explained it, and it's basically a normal translation, just something different. In regards to that whole bootleg term, it was real hot when I was in 4th or 5th grade but then everyone outgrew it and realized how stupid and confusing it sounds.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

You mean besides interrupting two different types of formats for the series before deciding on the "Shonen Jump"-branded version, and then having multiple printings with different censorings each time?Kendamu wrote:At least they're consistent on releasing the entire series.Captain Awesome wrote: As for Viz, we don't need to worry about cropping and crappy colours, just a moronic and inconsistant editing standard and silly name translations.
Djinn Buu? Ick.
Just sayin'.

Ah, thanks for getting the screen cap for comparing. Indeed while the colors are a little bright, they are not as bad as the previous seasons when you compare. Oh well, Funimation already has me sold on these anyway due to the price. (At least they are getting somewhat better)
I think I'll be buying assorted Dragon Ball things for the rest of my life.
I think we should be just as hard on Viz as we are with Funimation. I refuse to buy censored manga.VegettoEX wrote:You mean besides interrupting two different types of formats for the series before deciding on the "Shonen Jump"-branded version, and then having multiple printings with different censorings each time?Kendamu wrote:At least they're consistent on releasing the entire series.Captain Awesome wrote: As for Viz, we don't need to worry about cropping and crappy colours, just a moronic and inconsistant editing standard and silly name translations.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

But at least they're actually getting around to the second full printing now.
As for "ZOMG CENSORED" I really don't mind blasters in a world of alien space fighting. That, and owning the Japanese version kind of means I have a choice between a little bit of censoring and usually very accurate English or uncensored in Japanese (a language I'm learning currently).
Not everyone's that lucky, but that's just where I'm personally coming from.

Am I the only one that's not seeing half the pictures that SSJToreto posted on the 4th page? Just checking, because they were just posted yesterday.
Edit: Nevermind, they're back now!

Oh don't get me wrong, I intend on purchasing the Viz big releases, and can't wait for their release, I just think their editing is completely devoid of logic (guns vs exploding cell junior heads for example) I'm just hoping to see no editing, or at least less.Kendamu wrote: At least they're consistent on releasing the entire series.
And the Djinn thing to me isn't really valid as translating a name into a language other than English doesn't really make any sense in this case.
Vegerot is debatable, it at least has some logic behind it.
You're right about that. Whenever we see something shitty, we just say "That's bootlegged!".[/b]TheGreatness25 wrote:Well here in New York, anything that's crappy is called bootleg. Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Not to sound like an ass, but the background color on the Dragon Box just looks weird. And the logo seems pretty blurry. The colors aren't as bright, but the skin colors look better I guess. Still the biggest thing that's better is that it's in Full screen lol
This was one of the first things I compared between FUNimation's single releases and the Remastered. Geez. They cut a huge chunk off. Unbelievable lol Ohs well

I don't really care if you think a certain color is "weird" or not, it's the way it was actually meant to be seen, so why change it?TheGreatness25 wrote:Not to sound like an ass, but the background color on the Dragon Box just looks weird. Oh, and if you'll notice the logo is blurred on both versions.
