Er, I doubt Naruto's, actually. That voice is just annoying and childish.

And...uh...Luffy isn't exactly a big muscular guy. From what I know of One Piece anyway. Correct me if he buffs up after the fish people.
That hardly changes the fact he's a rough and tough pirate of nigh eighteen, even if a man-child.
Pirate, yes.
But does he look like someone who'd have the voice of a MAN?
No
He doesn't, he LOOKS like someone who'd still have a younger sounding voice, which grown men cant really provide.

Not to imply any disrespect for Nozawa, but having Goku voiced by a woman is like having Arnold Schwartzenegger be dubbed by a 5 year old.

It just doesn't sound right when you look at the body.

It's not about looks, it's about what's inside.

It's a cartoon, not everything has to be über-realistic.

Oh don't play the cop-out card.

Might as well just delete this forum, because EVERY argument/discussion/theory here can be tossed aside with 'It's a cartoon'

It fits when the voice you're speaking of is actually a deeper version of the same voice that's been used for the character for about 130-something episodes up to that point. But when you're like, "Dragon Dragon! Rock The Drago--what the Heck?!" I can see where you're coming from.

Yeah, but these were people who had to wait a week to get a new episode, when we got it dubbed, it was like, every day.
We couldn't really get used to a voice for the amount of time the Japanese got to.

I still stand by my opinion that a more masculine voice works when the body calls for it, its like if Pilaf was dubbed by Don LaFontaine (Movie Guy ), his body doesn't call for the voice of God, and to me, Goku's doesn't call for a women's.

If we're going by that standard, I think dub Vegeta, Goten, Gohan, Trunks, child Goku, and Krillin should quit smoking and that dub Kaio needs to get vocal surgery to fix the problem that turned his deep voice into "Schemmel with his mouth full."

I mean, the most powerful warriors in the universe and a God should have voices that fit them, right?

I dunno, those are some bad examples.

I can explain Sabat's Vegeta though.

He's an arrogant prideful jerk who thinks he's the best in the universe but deep down he knows that he isn't and he hates himself because of that.
Sabat's Vegeta kind of gets that point across.

As for King Kai, yeah, he doesn't sound all that great.
But he is fat.
and his best friend is a monkey.
and he loves his car.
Shouldn't it be acceptable that he have kind of a humorous voice?

Wait.
Quit smoking?
What dub are you watching?

I'd rather have Sabat or whoever voice Vegeta in a way that really gets the point across, not just kinda. Ryo Horikawa can do it really well. Why can't it be that way in the dub?

Not when I'm looking for accurate voices. The fact that he has a deep, proud voice but is always depicted in humorous ways happens to be what's so funny about him. They don't need to drive it home by making him sound like Schemmel with a cold and a slobbering problem.
Wait.

The one where everyone I mentioned has a type of "scruff" to their voices that reminds me of longtime smokers. It's especially bad with the child characters and I wonder why I never heard such things from children in other FUNi-licensed shows such as Fullmetal Alchemist. You might've conveniently forgotten it, but that's one of the things I tend to remember about the dub.

I might be sounding kind of like a jackass, but at least I acknowledge the fact that Nozawa's Goku is high-pitched and is obviously done by a woman. I just happen to think of Nozawa's Goku voice as the definitive voice for Goku even under such circumstances. At the very least, you can acknowledge all the "scruff" going into a lot of dub voices. I'm not asking you to share my opinion, but to at least acknowledge the truth.

I like him better than Nozawa. He has improved over the years. Still could use improvement in the screaming department.

That's different, seeing as how they're teenagers.

Grown men can't really make a teenager/kid voice all that well, ya know?
That's been changing the last few years. Starting to see more young boys being voiced by men rather than just women or actual young boys. Know that the goggled digi-kids were voiced by women in Japanese but by men in English. Still both English and Japanese TK was voiced by a woman in season 1, but by a man in season 2, while Izzy and Japanese Tai were still voiced by the same women who played them in season 1, and they were older than him.

Exactly, who says men can't voice boys, I may be unprofessional, but I can do it without any effort. I'll try to do boy's voices if I ever make it to professional.

To me Schemmel and Nozawa are the perfect Goku (minus Season 3), for their respective languages.

Yeah, well you're still fifteen. Try voicing a ten year old ten or fifteen years from now.

Sure, Yuri Lowenthal does it, but alas...

That's a good point, but I use these voices (High-Kid Goku, Deep-Ryuk, etc.) everyday, just so I don't get rusty. But wait, don't males' voices usually hit their adult voice at 15? I think, I've might have already hit that point.

Holy crap, how can you keep a scream out for about 45 seconds? I know you can take lessons on it but, that's insane.

Couldn't tell as much, then he originated that role in his late 40s, so might not have been too much a difference.
