Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
I'm surprised no one mentioned this since I figured a couple of people would jump at the chance to grab all three chapters in one book. The reprint of Episode of Bardock in this issue of V-Jump has some surprises:
A new cover:

And two unpublished pages reflecting the anime adaptation...

did these come first and not make the cut the first time? or did she add them after the anime was made? I dunno. I'm actually kind of mad that he's now a "super hero" in both versions. lol Anyway, I wonder if there is technically anything "new" anything in these 2 pages...hmm.

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
So at the start of the new pages, the narration says that the thing about "Saiyans who turn golden" gets passed down through Freeza's clan. Then at the end it says of Bardock/events in general "Did this become the beginning of the Super Saiyan legend? It's not definite." Isn't that rather contradictory?

Hmm, odd. Not that I doubt your translation, but according to the one provided by the guy who posted the images (originally in French), it seems Bardock started the legend, but may not have been the first to transform:Herms wrote:So at the start of the new pages, the narration says that the thing about "Saiyans who turn golden" gets passed down through Freeza's clan. Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
It's Suupaa Saiya-jin densetsu no hajimari ni natta, which is definitely "[became the] beginning of the Super Saiyan legend", not anything about a "legendary Super Saiyan" or a first transformation. What they're thinking of would be a) densetsu no Suupaa Saiya-jin rather than Suupaa Saiya-jin densetsu and b) hajimete rather than hajimari.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:Hmm, odd. And here I was hoping you were wrong or misreading something for the first time. lol If for no other reason than because the correct version is just dumb. The usual Japanese, circular statements that confirm something before denying it, leaving us with a contradiction and right back where we started. Usually this is seen on advertisements though, does it have to seep into these situations too? =P
Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
That line is the one the anime adaption ends on too, for the record.

Hey. I am also interested in buying this. Would any of you sell it? If not what is the price people nowadays are paying for it?
Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
I hope not as this special made no sense. TFS made the best version of it.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
This special seemed really unecessary to me. They could have chosen any other character to flesh out... but they choose to just give Bardock the now pointlessly redundant not-so-legendary SSJ form to do what Goku basically already does... hmm.... a character who as already very well established just needs his share in the SSJ discount.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
Since this was brought back to the front page recently, I guess I might as well use this topic instead of making a new one. Things are getting interesting, and a little confusing, because it seems we're being set up for another push at getting Episode of Bardock back into public focus.

So, to start us off here, Heroes' JM2 set will feature two secret cards this time around. The first of which is obviously Kurieza, and the second is supposed to be a warrior who appeared before the Freeza clan. Said warrior is obviously Bardock (or someone who shares that appearance, like Goku or Tullece), though what is being done with him is still a mystery at the moment. Current speculation has us assuming that he might be taking the plunge and gaining the Super Saiyan 2 transformation, but perhaps it is just a reprint of his Super Saiyan card, the same way we got Super Saiyan 3 Broli as a SEC even though he had already been one many sets ago.

But, apparently, there is more to it than just a Bardock card in Heroes. I was browsing though Nostal/Treevax's scans of Saikyo jump today, and it seems Episode of Bardock is going to be reprinted? I'm not sure exactly what is going on, there might have been talk of something being reedited or redrawn? I don't know. I'm sure Julian and Mike already have part of this on the back burner, as they usually run about a month behind on magazine stories, but I hope one of them can help shed some light on this so we know what is going on and can potentially purchase this if we missed it the first time around...

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
It says Episode of Bardock is getting a "super kanzenban".
And the DB Heroes thing says the "warrior of rage" is getting a "further super evolution" in the face of Freeza's clan. So it sounds like another power-up, rather than just a reprint of the SSj Bardock card.

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
Interesting. But does Episode of Bardock really warrant any style of Kanzenban? Aren't they meant to be high quality books with a lot of pages...? Episode of Bardock, as it is right now, only around 50 pages. Is it normal to have a release like this for something so small (assuming more isn't added to go with Bardock's new transformation, have the JSAT adaptation added in too or something)?

Oh, looks like it's also going have (other) manga drawn by Ooishi. I think the implication is that it's stuff newly drawn for this "super kanzenban". Maybe. And there's a Bardock DBH card.

Re: Episode of Bardock: Giant On-Going Manga + Anime Discuss
So, perhaps we will see EoB & JSAT (and something new maybe), since she drew them?
James Teal (Animerica 1996) wrote:When you think about it, there are a number of similarities between the Chinese-inspired Son Goku and that most American of superhero icons, Superman. Both are aliens sent to Earth shortly after birth to escape the destruction of their homeworlds; both possess super-strength, flight, super-speed, heightened senses and the ability to cast energy blasts. But the crucial difference between them lies not only in how they view the world, but in how the world views them.
Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. The more down-to-earth Goku has no illusions about being responsible for maintaining social order, or for setting some kind of moral example for the entire world. Goku is simply a martial artist who’s devoted his life toward perfecting his fighting skills and other abilities. Though never shy about risking his life to save either one person or the entire world, he just doesn’t believe that the balance of the world rests in any way on his shoulders, and he has no need to shape any part of it in his image. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. Politics, society, law and order don’t have much bearing on his life, but he’s a man who knows right from wrong.
