Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

I consider zenkais to be a form of automatic evolution or mutation. No saiyan ever got as over 500,000 without zenkais, oozaru, or Super Saiyan.RandomGuy96 wrote:Vegeta says hi.My theory, and I admit that this is pure speculation, is that no one can surpass this level of power without either mutations, transformations, or divine powerups.

Since WHEN was Goten and Trunks underdogs? Vegeta is always destroyed in the movies so not stealing no spotlight.Piccolo Daimao wrote:Does anyone have any particularly unpopular opinions about Dragon Ball? I'll start off.
Furthermore, there was no Gokuu, Gohan, Vegeta or Piccolo here; it gave the underdogs, Goten, Gohan, Kuririn, #18 and Mr. Satan the spotlight for once. I also liked the simplistic yet somewhat amusing designs of the Bio-Warriors.

Vegeta says that it is normal for Saiya-jins to become stronger via zenkais, so we have the knowledge that it is common for everyone.Kamiccolo9 wrote:I consider zenkais to be a form of automatic evolution or mutation. I consider Goku and Vegeta to be Saiya-jin mutants.
Their ability to achieve greater levels of power I give to them simply being different to other Saiya-jins.
Even their zenkai abilites is a part of their mutant abilities.
I mean, there has to be LOADS of Saiya-jins wounded and recovered in battle, but we never see anyone stronger than Vegeta. No one got that huge power increases as we know.
The only one we see going to the 10,000 mark is Bardock, who I believe himself to be a mutant too.
I mean, if a "normal" Saiya-jin could jump those amounts in power as Goku and Vegeta did, we would have tons of them being above 20,000 easily.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Normal Saiyans didn't have magical insta-heal beans.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
No, they had healing machines capable to heal them in a short amount of time.Rocketman wrote:Normal Saiyans didn't have magical insta-heal beans.
The one Goku used at Namek was an old and slow one, and took a short time nevertheless.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
Which you don't have time to get to if you fall in battle on another planet. If it weren't for Goku's mercy/selfishness, Vegeta would never have gotten any zenkais.Godo wrote:No, they had healing machines capable to heal them in a short amount of time.Rocketman wrote:Normal Saiyans didn't have magical insta-heal beans.

The point is that the first zenkai Vegeta got wasn't a surprise to him, whilst the second and third was (regarding increase in power).Rocketman wrote:Which you don't have time to get to if you fall in battle on another planet. I bet that Vegeta of all people knows what amounts are normal or not, and that he would know that such increases such as his first one were possible in the past.
But I'm getting too much into this.
After all it doesn't really matter either way what the reasons were.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I guess I'll get this thread back on track.
I don't like Videl's long hair - I think this is unpopular. I don't really like her short hair either. Hell, I just don't like Videl's hair, period.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I can add something too.
When I first saw Fat Boo, I thought that he was kinda cool and interesting. It was kinda new to have a villain both childlike and also not calling the shots (having Babidi shouting orders at him).
When Pure Evil Boo appeared, I thought he was interesting, since he seemed wicked and a bit goofy.
When Evil Boo appeared, I loved that although he had calmed down a bit, he still had some childlike features left. He was an entertaining villain. Especially with his absorptions and how he changed with each absorbtion.
When Pure Buu arrived, I was like...meh. Boring.

Fat Buu = Kid Goku: naive and overpowered, childish
Super Buu = Adult Goku: stronger and much smarter of a fighter
Kid Buu = Baby Goku: the Saiyan's true nature of barbaric violence

I'm not sure how unpopular these actually are, but they often seem to be unpopular online.

Unlike a lot of people. I actually prefer Teen-Adult Gohan over Kid and preteen Gohan.

Firstly, it's spelled canon. A cannon is used to shoot things.TheGmGoken wrote:Not trying to disregard your opinion. But the fans don't decide what's cannon or not lol.FortuneSSJ wrote:1 - I Love GT and consider it cannon.

Secondly, Dragonball doesn't have a set canon. A fan can consider whatever he wants to be canon.

Well....why not? If there is no set word on what is canon and what is not, then why can't I choose for myself. Lets say I really like GT and I consider that canon. Lets say someone really likes Dragon Ball Online and totally digs that alternate timeline; so much so that they consider it the canonical events that occur after the manga? Both are official products yet they totally contradict each other. Who would be right in this case?
Both would.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
All the movies could be part of some canon in someone's head. Whether they're part of the author's canon or not is what most people wonder about, but there's nothing stopping anyone else from making their own. I can't think of many good reasons to do so, but that doesn't stop them.TheGmGoken wrote:Actually a fan can't pick what's canon even for dbz. Using that logic all the movies COULD be canon/cannon.
See Mike's post on the subject, which probably explains it better than I can.
