Question, does anyone know why Birusu lifted his arm up before Goku punched a hole in Planet Kai? Was he grooming himself?

Yes, he was grooming himself. That part always come to my mind because Kakarotto give a powerful punch on Birusu and he dodges that punch. Why Bills ( being so strong ) don´t block that Kakarotto powerful punch?

Gohan did at least lay a hand on Billy with that short-lived full nelson, which is more than Goku ever managed. But even that could be written off as Bruce being distracted by Boo at the moment.

Even if you want to write it off as getting him off guard, Goku tried to do the same to Birusu and failed.

While Bils was dealing with Buu, the case seems to be he doesn't consider anyone worth anything so why even bother noticing Gohan? You're grasping at straws, that was the point, it implies nothing more than they're on equal footing against Bils

I figured this to be the case. Not surprising. But definitely also reinforces my opinion that the change to Gohan from SSJ to "Ultimate" was done at the last minute and not the original intention.

I think everyone is wrong about the eyes meaning anything about Gohan being "ultimate" or not. It seems to be his style generally to have the open-circle eyes when a character is being more light-hearted or innocent and when the tone is more serious or desperate they are closed off to represent power and a change in attitude. This is the same art style concept he employs when he makes SSJ3 Goku look more like the villains in design.

... obviously his eyes were different when he was an older teen as well during the saiyaman stuff. Goku's the same way with how his eyes change. The eyes represent the difference between the tone at the time. If the character is given importance in being shown to get "serious" and show off their power then the eyes change to reflect that. It's just a style based on whether or not it's a light-hearted or more serious tone. It doesn't mean ultimate gohan ALWAYS has to have the eyes drawn that way.

You're comparing base to Super Saiyan/2. There's your problem. Base Gohan always has the same eyes, even while angry, and his Super Saiyan/Ultimate forms always have enclosed eyes.

Members of the Son family only get the fully encircled eyes when they become Super Saiyan. As Super Saiyans, they're encircled even when they're relaxed. In base, they're not encircled even when they're angry or super serious. Gohan's eyes are always encircled after he has his dormant power awakened by the old Kaioshin.

Didn't Toriyama actually mention something about this at one point? About how as Super Saiyans he gave them the eyes he would normally give villains, or something like that?

I believe it was stated that Toriyama reread the manga, so he knows what Gohan's Ultimate Power is, so the group picture is most likely a stylistic choice, considering how much his style has changed. Also he doesn't seem like the type to over-analyze every detail like us crazy fans.

Wow! New art from Toriyama! That's what I really wanted!!! Ahhh, this picture is so fun and awesome. I think my favorite part is #18, Marron, and Puar with Buu laughing and clapping. Ox King daintily holding his fork is a nice touch, as is Mr. Satan pouring booze for the folks in the center. A real party!

I do wonder if i am the only one not looking forward to this so much. I am not so much a fan of the new style animation for Dragon Ball, it just doesn't look right to me.

The backgrounds in the old Dragon Ball animation seemed to fit, but the backgrounds in this new style doesn't look right. The characters look like they have just been placed onto the backgrounds. For example, check out this clip off of Plan to eradicate the Saiyans and go to 7:01 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMCITwyUGMA , see how the characters don't really blend in well with the background ? there are more moments like this throughout.

I am still looking forward to it because it's Dragon Ball Z, but i am looking for some improvements.

Also i would like it if it was announced that the Super Saiyan God was the true form of a Super Saiyan and that the other transformations were just stages a Saiyan had to achieve before he reached the true Super Saiyan form.

And why exactly would they announce that if it's not necessarily true?
