Toriyama has had other works beyond those that have received similar treatments too. But other than the Blue Dragon anime (which is an entirely different situation), none of his works have been animated in over a decade unless they are Dr. Slump or Dragon Ball. Not just related to DB either, like with Neko Majin. They apparently have to be branded as DB to be worth the effort anymore, because while Toriyama is still a huge name, his other project just don't seem to be worth the financial investment to Toei.

Well, Jaco can be advertised as a prequel to Dragon Ball (whereas Neko Majin was just a fun, goofy series that didn't affect Dragon Ball's plot).

It could have been though. Fun or not, it could have been animated as sequel content just by cutting out or altering the Vegeta working for a still alive Freeza content. I mean, they've altered good portions of material for other adaptations for the anime, so I don't really see what was stopping them if they really wanted more content to make money off of.

Just noticed the rating on the VIZ manga. Does this make any sense? Did they mess up?

There's a scene in the manga where Jaco gives a character a golden shower, that's probably where the "A" rating comes from.

Just confused how it can be rated for all ages but be rated T-for Teen 13 and up

Yeah, he takes a piss out of the sides of his head. Which, by Toriyama's toilet and sexual humour standards, can probably be considered fairly light... But it's not particularly cencorship-friendly by Western standards.

Viz has the digital volume available for purchase on their website. Additionally they also have a free preview up.

Seven dollars huh? Urrghh... is it worth it if I already know the twist?

I'd say so, it's a good work by Toriyama. Really entertaining.

The "twist" is possibly the least interesting thing about it. Everyone guessed it from day one anyway. Jaco's characterization and the goofy humor are what makes it shine. Of course, if you're the sort who doesn't especially care for the "humor" aspect of Toriyama's work, it might not be your cup of tea.

No, I do love Toriyama's sense of humor, I'm just a bit hesitant since I already have most of the plot spoiled for me. Seven dollars is srs business, I can buy lunch with that.

I just got through reading all of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman today and to be honest I loved it! I thought I was just investing into Goku's mother Gine but wow!
I don't read many Manga's(Even Dragonball manga! which I should) But I must say I enjoyed Jaco so much! I hope we get other stories of him but I don't think that'll happen. but we're getting stuff with him in the new movie so that's great too! :)
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Received my copy today and I'm already halfway through the book. It's not like I'm reading straight though it, I read a couple chapters then go on doing what I need to do throughout the rest of the day. I just can't wait to read about the secret origin of Goku honestly. I stopped at chapter 9 I'll read some more tomorrow.

I don't want to lead you in any particular direction before you even get to the bonus chapter, but... um... don't get your hopes up too high.

I just finished Jaco. Wow, what an entertaining read that was. I had to force myself to stop several times because I didn't want to read the whole thing in one day. I really love how it manages to be it's own self contained story while still expanding the Dragon Ball universe. That's really awesome, how it just coexists in the same universe but has very little to do with the Dragon Ball story. Now I'm even more hyped for Ressurrection F because I'm eager to see more Jaco.

Seriously, I really recommend anyone who's on the fence about buying it to just go ahead and give it a shot. Honestly, my biggest complaint is probably the simple fact that, despite Jaco being portrayed as very powerful and fun action scenes for what they were, Jaco never actually had a serious, challenging fight. With the character bios at the end of every chapter, I was expecting that special forces unit to be made up of decently strong humans like General Blue, and they would be able to give Jaco a fight, so I was kinda disappointed when they were just fodder. But this just gives me more reason to be hyped for Ressurrection F.
